Locked parking thread 2

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 01/08/2021 07:38

Sorry everyone I didn't post a new thread last night but I was a bit freaked out by the comment about finding me online at the end.

Anyway as the world's most boring update it is still here but someone is coming round about lunchtime to pick it up.

I rang 101 and reported it and that I was concerned they'd essentially vanished. They said there wasn't anything they could do about the car as its on private land but I could be liable for any damage if I moved it and that they would check on the registered owner.

I posted it on a couple of the local Facebook groups last night saying
"Anyone know whose cat this is? Please get them to contact me urgently on xxxx as itll be being towed tomorrow"

I had a response from the guys DS and she said she'd contact him and get him ring me. He hasn't rang me but she messaged me back to say he'd collect it at lunchtime if that was OK. I've said fine but we going out at at 2 so if he's not here before then he won't be able to get it till we get back later.

And that's it really.

Is it worth taking photos of the car in case the owner claims damage to it?

How could he prove that it wasn't already like that? For all we know, extensive damage to the car/it being unable to be driven could be the exact reason why he abandoned it on private property. Even if he had bizarrely taken photos to prove the perfect condition of his car before he carelessly left it, he has no proof that OP might have done any damage that subsequently occurred.

How can somebody possibly be arbitrarily designated as a care-taker for your car, without their ever having known or agreed to it? Even actual car parks that expect customers/members of the public to make use of them frequently have signs up saying that you leave your vehicle at your own risk and, if you should return to find it damaged, tough manure they cannot be in any way held liable.

^^ Sorry, rogue apostrophe s above.
The apostrophe was fine and correct 😊

@memberofthewedding

Here are some suggestions for lazy and inconsiderate parkers:-

Love the one where the farmer ploughs his field up.

That 2nd one, I'm pretty sure the tractor/fork lift driver has just received a prison sentence for that....
ChunkySloth · 01/08/2021 18:44

I'd be tempted to set the fucking thing alight at this point.

MrsRLynde · 01/08/2021 18:44

Might be tempted to email the administrators of the Ford leasing scheme the registration details. If they own it they may want to collect it if it has has been abandoned.

melj1213 · 01/08/2021 18:46

On the other hand if he wants to play who blinks first I am happy to do so. Currently I don't need vehicular access through that gate and don't for the foreseeable future. I can get out the top and go round off road. So game on little man game on.

This is the perfect attitude - he can release his car at any point, he just needs to ask. The length of time it stays behind the locked gate is entirely his decision. You aren't going out of your way to stop him from collecting the car, you're just not going out of your way to facilitate him.

The only problem with the long game is emergency access but I suppose if that was needed they'd just shift the car our the way and deal with the repercussions later.

If it is still there at the point emergency access is required then surely the emergency service concerned would just move it? Usually, since their priority is accessing the emergency they aren't going to be careful about it and any damage is usually the car owners responsibility if the car was parked illegally.

I remember a local incident where an inconsiderate CF had parked outside his property in such a way that it blocked an emergency access road to a large local factory site. He had been warned previously but continued to park there regardless until there was a massive incident at the factory and the fire engines couldn't get past the car. They would usually give someone warning to move the car or try to move it out of the way with minimal damage but on that day, because of the priority of the callout, they didn't have time to dick about trying to carefully move the car, so they just rammed it out of the way.

Because his insurance wouldn't pay out for the damage he tried to bring a claim against the fire department and actually had the brass neck to go to the local media/social media expecting people to support him. He ended up bringing such a massive backlash against himself because he wouldn't back down (even going as far to say he was just as much of a "victim" of the accident as people who ended up with life changing injuries) that he had to move out of town because his house and car were constantly targeted by vandals.

I've just Googled the Ford Ranger. They are kind of twatty vehicles aren't they?
Very thinly-disguised penis extensions.

@picklemewalnuts I think the secret is to put quite a lot of oil in the tin, making sure it covers the sides, warm in the (very hot) oven then add Yorkshire batter and cook for about 30 mins

Works every time Smile

AmberIsACertainty · 01/08/2021 18:50

He's left his car parked on a forest track where anyone could come along and set fire to it?! How stupid of him. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

kensington09 · 01/08/2021 18:50

Came to find this thread to catch up from yesterday and can't believe he still hasn't been!!! 😱😱

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 01/08/2021 18:51

Tbh im tempted let the FC deal with it. They don't seem to give a fuck about damage and just refer people to their insurance department...

The legendary story around here about them must be from about 20 years ago. Certainly before I moved back and had DC...

They were felling the bottom section. So access gates open and signs and ai mean signs everywhere. No parking. 24 access required. Tree felling in operation etc etc. The guys come in with the machines, stack the timber on the track and then days later the lorries come and get them.

CF decided none of that applied to him and drove into track and parked at crossroad section of track. FC tow him out smashing his wing mirrors and scuffing his car up along the way and dump him on the road. They leave a no parking sign under his wipers.

CF does not learn. He complains about them and the damage they caused. The FC guys neither forgive or forget. They start to stack the next load of timber by where he parks his car. They wait. There is a sign warning no climbing on the timber as it could be unstable.

The absolute muppet returns and parks his car as usual. The FC guys drop a fucking tree trunk on his car. A fucking tree. The whole log pile is dislodged and now butted up to his little car. It's totalled. Dead as dead can be. They leave and lock the barrier so he can't even get his car removed. They drop another tree on his car the next day. They have no fucks left to give.

The official story was that where he parked made it impossible to maneuver the machinery resulting in a slippage of the timber stack. The second lot of damage was apparently caused when they were restacking the timber pile....

Right, that's it. Leave him to the FC.

I missed this yesterday - can some kind Mner please provide a very brief summary of what this CF has done? I love a good parking beef thread!

britnay · 01/08/2021 18:55

I think I'm a little bit in love with the FC :D

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/08/2021 18:55

That bloke filming it, like chummy in this thread - even if you don't care about anybody else, why would you want all of that drama in your own life, when you could have just parked somewhere sensible?

LakieLady · 01/08/2021 18:55

It works that way with horses though also so someone can break into your field, fly graze their horses on it. You as the land owner are legally responsible for the health and welfare of the horses whilst on your land in terms of food water etc. If you want them gone you have to post a formal notice giving the CF owners days to move them. If they don't you can then take ownership of the horses and dispose of them which is not that bloody simple. You then also supposed keep funds for so long so if they turn up you can give give their money back less your costs....

If you could guarantee that he would be home at a given time, it would be fucking hilarious to put a horse in his front garden for him to find when he gets home from work. (Having first checked that it was secure and didn't contain any plants that might be injurious to horses.

MaggieFS · 01/08/2021 18:56

Blimey, definitely leave it to the FC!

OP had gate open for hay delivery, goes to lock gate and find CF unloading kids and bikes, OP says he's got 5 mind to get off her property before she locks the gate, OP comes back to find car still there with note on windscreen saying he had nowhere else to park, OP locks gate, two hours later CF comes back and sends kids over the gate for picnic bags, several hours later they return picnic bag and leave again.
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2021 18:57

If the FC do end up dealing with him in their totally proportionate and legal way, could you take a few photos for us please BlueEyesWhiteDragon? Grin

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 01/08/2021 19:00

I mean there is no way you'd get away with shit like that these days but the legend of good old Reg and him losing his shit lives on and inspires fear of parking on FC land deep in locals hearts.
