No washing machine at centreparcs

SuperCaliFragalistic · 26/07/2021 22:39

I'm at centreparcs for a week. Someone else paid for this holiday which I'm very grateful for. However our 4 bed (sleeps 8) Lodge doesn't have a washing machine and there are no laundry facilities on site. I know its a massive rip off anyway, and I know I should have checked the details and packed more stuff, but seriously? Now I'm expected to rinse my knickers in the sink after paying 4k for this this holiday! It takes the piss.

(This does explain why we managed a 3 week holiday in the States on hand baggage + a single small suitcase for the hold, though! Very, very cheap - we only had the hold baggage so DS could take a musical instrument as his hand baggage and because it's a lot easier for the liquids etc to be able to shove them all into a suitcase rather than having lots of mini things.)

Shizen · 27/07/2021 13:36

Makes sense @cantkeepawayforever and probably a more responsible way to shop

OverTheRubicon · 27/07/2021 13:43

I agree with @cantkeepawayforever I feel like my kids already have too many clothes, but it's far less than lots of people here. How on earth do you wear them all before they grow out? Also does explain though how people talk about mountains of washing - another plus of having fewer things is that you just can't have a huge pile build up like that.

fuckoffImcounting · 27/07/2021 13:56

Gosh, all these people who never wash their nickers. I hope they throw them away when they get home.

Whose said they don't wash their knickers?!
Crunchymum · 27/07/2021 14:10

I think I'd just bite the bullet and head home (taking my dirty stuff with me) and bring back supplies to last the rest of the time.

We pack light specifically because there is a washing machine in our holiday let. I'd be annoyed but I would have also checked beforehand (sorry!)

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/07/2021 14:12
@WiddlinDiddlin totally off topic and depends where you live - but if you have additional accessibility needs and want a stay in the Peak District have a look at Hoe Grange holidays just outside brassington near Ashbourne. I stayed there recently and it’s fantastic - they have off-road wheelchairs to hire and have won awards for accessibility. I’m not affiliated but was really stuck by how much they’ve done to consider all users needs xx
Oooh ta! I'll check them out :)

Frymetothemoon · 27/07/2021 14:16

There must be a launderette in Frome or Warminster

I don’t think anyone said they don’t wash their knickers… people have either said they pack light and do a mid holiday wash, or they pack enough clean pairs to last the whole trip (and wash them all when they return)
FrangipaniBlue · 27/07/2021 14:37

@recreationalcalpol

Does it not just make it "same shit, different location"?

You have literally just described any holiday with small children.

YANBU OP, not having a washing machine is ridiculous. I’ve never been to a CP, but it sounds shit.

If that's the case then what the hells the point in going on holiday?

Literally NONE of our holidays with DS have ever been "same shit different location" the whole purpose of a holiday is to get away from the everyday Confused

I swear this place is utterly bonkers sometimes

FrangipaniBlue · 27/07/2021 14:42

Reading this thread about how many changes of clothes people need for one week away and how much washing they do (one towel per person per day??? WTAF??) no wonder the environment is royally fucked.

Congressdingo · 27/07/2021 15:05

You put your car seat and pram in the washing machine
The covers unsnap and come off.

You never washed your car seat or pram cover?

LakieLady · 27/07/2021 15:06

@Gardenista

If I’d paid £4K I’d expect a washing machine and tumble dryer abs a dishwasher too . Isn’t CP all about the swimming? Not unreasonable at all to expect to be able to wash and dry swimming towels etc.
If I'd paid £4k I'd expect a washer/drier and a maid to do the bloody laundry!

Despite the fact that I've never needed to wash my smalls (or even my bigs) on holiday, I'm gobsmacked that somewhere like CP, that's heavily targeted at families, doesn't have laundry facilities.

Children are filthy little gits, they fall in mud, spill their food and piss their pants. I find it totally understandable that a family might run out of clean stuff after a couple of days.

garlictwist · 27/07/2021 15:10

I'm sorry, what? 4K?!

GoldBar · 27/07/2021 15:10

What exactly do you get for your £4,000 at Centerparcs? I've never been and am becoming increasingly curious.

Once you've budgeted for meals/activities, what's the total cost of a holiday there for an average family?

NotSoLongGoodbye · 27/07/2021 15:14

Can't stay away from this thread. Am amazed people take clothes for entire week. I tend to pack one outfit a day for DS but inevitably he ends up wet, muddy, covered in food etc so it's not enough. Also if you are doing a UK break you have to pack for the elements surely? So mixture of clothes suitable for sun, cold, rain, mud, layers etc. Certainly couldn't manage without a washing machine for a week - 3/4 days doable but not entirely risk free when all you have left is a hoodie and long sleeved t-shirt and it's boiling

Congressdingo · 27/07/2021 15:21

@Shizen

Also never understand when people say it’s a few minutes to do a wash. It doesn’t! It takes a few minutes to load the machine and turn it on but not to hang it all out
Errr washer/dryer?

Most of my clothing was bought because it goes in a dryer. And those few things that need to be air dried flat dont get worn often and almost never go on holiday with me.

Take it out the dryer at the right time and nothing needs ironing. Win win.

But even then assuming only a washer, it's no more time to put in wash, take out and hang up than it is to hand wash various items and leave dripping for who knows how long then ironing it, because you definitely have to iron hand washed, drip dried clothes.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/07/2021 15:31

What this thread is telling me is - it’s a good job there are a range of different holiday options in the world (more so outside of covid) because people have different preferences!

RestingStitchFace · 27/07/2021 15:41

Definitely not BU. The price Centerparcs charge, there should be a gold-plated washing machine...

And today's winning 'First World Problem"... Next time do a bit of research into your free holiday.
AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 27/07/2021 15:51

Did you not do what everyone else does and take more then double enough pants incase you shit yourself every day 😂😂

MorganKitten · 27/07/2021 15:51

The website tells you what’s in the room….

I wash mine. I just take enough away with me not to have to do it until I get home. Seven pairs of knickers barely take up any space in my case.
Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/07/2021 18:25

I'm shocked there are no washing facilities giving the appalling rip off prices. I'd never go there, I'd have to take a 2nd mortgage out.
4k bloody hell!!!!
I'd sooner go camping for a week.

TinkleTongs · 27/07/2021 18:28

@Blossomtoes

Do u not think to take your own cleaning products on a self catering break?

Nope. I don’t clean on holiday. That’s kind of the reason it’s called a holiday.

So Whst do you do if you make cups of tea or glasses of wine in the lodge ? Don’t just rinse and use the same cups ? What if you prepare food ? Do you not wash dishes ?

Also same point about cleaning surfaces , why would you not wipe down surfaces after using them ?

I take bleach for the toilets as it’s nice to pop a bit down a toilet each day to keep the bathroom smelling fresh.

For those saying “ I’m on holiday , I don’t clean “ it’s a bit rank , I’m not talking about deep cleaning , just keeping your own lodge fresh.
