No washing machine at centreparcs

SuperCaliFragalistic · 26/07/2021 22:39

I'm at centreparcs for a week. Someone else paid for this holiday which I'm very grateful for. However our 4 bed (sleeps 8) Lodge doesn't have a washing machine and there are no laundry facilities on site. I know its a massive rip off anyway, and I know I should have checked the details and packed more stuff, but seriously? Now I'm expected to rinse my knickers in the sink after paying 4k for this this holiday! It takes the piss.

They don't - that's the point. They may have in the past but I have checked with guest services and there's nowhere on site to do any washing any longer. Other options have been discussed up thread.

When we went to CP we would normally do the weekend break so we would be fine to have one swimming towel per person. I’m not a wash a towel after every single use person.

Also use CP towels when having shower in the lodge, and also don’t change them every day

Sparklingbrook · 27/07/2021 22:30

@omgthepain

Am I the only one wondering why op hasn't walked to the laundrette???

I've been to CP

They have washing machines - what's all the fuss about?

Yes, you are the only one, because it's been established that there may have been at one point but not now. Sad
ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2021 22:31

@omgthepain they don’t at Longleat CP.

GreatBritishBummertime · 27/07/2021 22:46

This really annoyed me on a 7 night trip to Sherwood. No laundrettes nearby. I'd have happily paid for a service wash.

beethecrackon24995 · 27/07/2021 22:50

We've booked a short stay at elveden in January earlier today oddly enough. Really excited as I love deer and know that lots visit. My daughter stayed a few weeks ago. I don't care about washing machines as I'll pack enough clothing Smile.

VeganCow · 28/07/2021 08:21

Ive always used washing machines in holiday homes. Put a load on a quick wash, some are 15 minutes, in the evening. Great to come home after a week and just put clean clothes away. I always used to wash the towels they provide the night before and leave on the line, strip the beds and get a load on before we leave. The last cottage we stayed in was so impressed with that and how clean we left the cottage, they knocked £100 off the £700 week cost for us as it saved her so much time.
Hell, we have a caravan now and I even handwash the odd thing at the sink and hang outside, it literally takes a minute to wash a couple of tshirts etc. and usually dry within a couple of hours as we are near the sea.Wouldn't do heavy towels, we have the light Decathlon microfibre ones there.

Birminghambloke · 28/07/2021 12:30

I guess from the perspective of places adding in a washing machine to each chalet would be one more thing to go wrong/ need to maintain. As PPs mention sick, poo leaks and mud, that’d be lovely to ensure is clean for the next guest! In a Florida villa they provided a washing machine and dryer and expected you to wash the towels and bedding before leaving!

Sparklingbrook · 28/07/2021 12:46

I can't see them adding one in, they need to be part of the kitchen at the start. There's already dishwashers by the sound of it which also need maintaining so a decision was made at some point.

SmashingBlouson · 28/07/2021 12:51

I agree OP, most places I go to have had either a washing machine or laundry facilities. I think if you pay 4k it should be included.

You could always layer up and go for a swim Grin

Enwi · 28/07/2021 12:54

I don’t think YABU. It is unusual for a pricier holiday village aimed specifically at families with young children to not have ANY laundry options. Not just no washing machines in lodges which is less unusual I’d say, but no laundrette on site either.

It’s not about packing more, it’s about convenience and not being stuck if your children act like children and go through a few more pairs of clothes than you’re expecting. Also, it’s lovely to not have a weeks worth of washing to do when you come home isn’t it!

senoritarita · 28/07/2021 15:17

Have never been on holiday and washed clothes? For a one week stay, I'd back about 14 pairs and enough outfits for 7 days and 7 nights ?

I do not possess that number of clothes.

Nor does anyone in my family, and that includes 18 YO DD.

Who are these people who have 14 'outfits'????

cantkeepawayforever · 28/07/2021 15:22

(Not to mention that our 'big family car' is a Ford Fiesta - used to be an old-style Escort, so a similar size. If we all took 14 outfits with us on holiday - plus the things we are interested in and actually enjoy, like books and sports / beach equipment and board games and a musical instrument or two - then there really wouldn't be space for 4 people!)

ineedaholidaynow · 28/07/2021 15:24

Most people don't have 14 outfits, but on holiday I would do mix and match and not wash everything after single use. So if I wear a sundress for an evening meal, I would either wear it during the day the following day if appropriate, or wear it another evening if need to change. Shorts/skirts would get more than one use. T-shirts and pants only single use, but take travel wash if need to do a quick wash for things like that

ineedaholidaynow · 28/07/2021 15:26

To be fair @cantkeepawayforever not many people take musical instruments on holiday

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2021 15:26

People take musical instruments on holiday?

cantkeepawayforever · 28/07/2021 15:26

Ineed, we obviously go on different holidays! I don't think i have ever been anywhere where a 'sundress' would have been an appropriate garment - jeans, fleece and hiking boots, wetsuit for the beach, all likely to be filthy dirty by the end of a day!

cantkeepawayforever · 28/07/2021 15:28

@Blossomtoes

People take musical instruments on holiday?
Of course! Luggage for a trip round America - 3 normal hand-luggage, 1 musical instrument, 1 hold bag.

This holiday I think will involve 2 musical instruments as a minimum.

Seeleyboo · 28/07/2021 15:29

They did have a laundry there once but much like the OP i was pissed off when they did away with it. I know most won't do washing on a break but for me it helped when kids got very mucky etc.

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2021 15:30

I think your family is a little - let’s say - unusual, @cantkeepawayforever.

cantkeepawayforever · 28/07/2021 15:31

(DS is at conservatoire. The idea of a week without playing music is unthinkable. We last went on holiday without a musical instrument about 4 or 5 years ago....but sadly his 'essential instrument of choice' has grown over the years, as he has moved up in size through a family of similar instruments!)

RubyFowler · 28/07/2021 15:34

I'm on holiday right now at a caravan park, washing machine in our caravan and a launderette on site.
Not just for washing the basics but also to freshen up towels, swimming stuff etc.
Agree with others I'd struggle to put together 14 decent outfits for me and kids and don't to be wearing our bottom of the drawer stuff on holiday.
Washing facilities a must for me too.

RavingAnnie · 28/07/2021 15:34

I find it bizarre there's no washing machine. I constantly wash things when I am away. Especially in the U.K. when you can have beach days and then walking days when it's wet and muddy etc.

Not so necessary when going abroad but I the U.K. you have to pack for many (potentially changing) weathers and activities.

cantkeepawayforever · 28/07/2021 15:34

@Blossomtoes

I think your family is a little - let’s say - unusual, *@cantkeepawayforever*.
I know the musical instrument thing is somewhat niche.

The not-having-a-huge-number-of-outfits thing is, i think, relatively normal? (OK, normal in comparison with the musical instruments is not very normal...)
