Brioche buns with burgers...

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 17/07/2021 21:36

Why oh why has every pub, restaurant, and street food vendor decided that burgers should now be served in brioche buns?

Brioche does not go with burgers! Burgers are savory and brioche is like cake!

Did the Uk get a load of brioche in our Brexit deal or something?

@Shade17 that’s a crime against food Shock

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 18/07/2021 20:20

@Shade17

You wouldn’t stuff a burger in a doughnut

Erm, yes you would! You can get burgers served in a sliced Krispy Kreme original glazed donuts. Not had one yet but on my list.

Wow that’s too much mixed favours as not balanced and your doctor would not recommend this diet! Even as a one off treat and believe me I am adventurous eg rapid deep fried dipped red bean or green tea matcha ice cream for rare no childcare fun with cocktails crazy - but how many of the bad calories and minutes on the Peloton bike or jog would that take to burn off? Can’t do the sugar glaze and deep fried doughnuts. It’s too much of a mixed favour explosion.

YABVU and wrong. They’re delicious.

Ladywinesalot · 18/07/2021 21:08

Coz they taste nice when lightly toasted.
Makes shitty burgers at home seem posher and I really like them…

5foot418stone · 18/07/2021 22:02

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia a krispy kreme glazed donut is approx 200 calories, a brioche bun from waitrose has 257 calories!

stevalnamechanger · 18/07/2021 22:03

YABVU ... buttermilk chicken with spicy Mayo in brioche

NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 22:36

I do like brioche with pulled pork

Ohbeeryme · 19/07/2021 02:31

I really hate brioche. It’s greasy, stale, sweet and falls apart easily. I don’t understand the brioche love. I just hope some day the trend goes back to sesame seed like it used to. I now go to actual burger places for a burger so I can get a proper burger bun. Failing that I like it on a ciabatta roll.

Notjustanymum · 19/07/2021 08:16

Slightly off topic, but related: we do a lot of bbq’s in the summer (I.e. cook main meals on the bbq rather than have massive parties around them!) We noticed that normal burger buns fall apart, even when toasted, so tried brioche buns - ewww, so sweet!
Started trying different types of rolls and found that bake at home ciabatta rolls are the best fo burgers. They don’t disintegrate and are so tasty! Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s sell them...

The3Ls · 19/07/2021 08:49

And they contain milk which is a pain for my CMPA daughter

Ohbeeryme · 19/07/2021 15:09

@Notjustanymum it’s the bake at home ciabatta we get too. Also a burger recommendation- tesco finest jalapeño and mozzarella burgers

In response to numerous posts on this thread:

"Brioche is basically cake" - what part of burgers and cake doesn't sound nice?!

"Brioche is not suitable for allergy sufferers / vegans" - most normal bread rolls contain egg and milk anyway

"I wish I could buy pretzel rolls" - these are pretty good

No they don't.
Well not in my experience anyway.
Some specific brands of bread contain milk. Most don't. Loaves or rolls with a shiny glaze on them may have had a milk/egg wash applied but there are plenty of other types.
There's fairly often a "may contain" disclaimer on bread because of the possibility of cross contamination if they are made in a bakery that also bakes cakes etc (or bloody brioche) but most normal bread doesn't contain milk and eggs.
Some bread contains milk and/or eggs and you do have to be aware of the possibility but I don't believe it's anywhere near most. Or if it is, I must have been stupendously lucky that in 20+ years of having dairy and/or egg allergic children, none of them has ever had a reaction to normal bread.

We have this issue too and even if they are dairy free brioche they contain egg and weve had people refuse us because they think egg is dairy.
5foot418stone · 19/07/2021 19:30

For the brioche lovers, Aldi sell vegan brioche burger buns!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/07/2021 19:32

I agree OP, they’re like cake. I love a burger in a crusty ciabatta roll ... the ones you finish off in the oven.

rishisboater · 19/07/2021 20:03

I think they're going out of fashion now. Have been seeing a lot of "ancient" rolls with burgers. Personally I find them too hard. What's wrong with a lovely bap

rishisboater · 19/07/2021 20:04

@Lipsandlashes

Awful. I ordered eggs benedict for brunch the other day and it came on brioche. I sent it back as it was disgusting
That is beyond the pale
Beendownthisroadmorethantwice · 19/07/2021 20:40

There’s worse… I was served what was supposed to be a bacon sandwich in a brioche bun. Wrong on every level.
