Brioche buns with burgers...

Why oh why has every pub, restaurant, and street food vendor decided that burgers should now be served in brioche buns?

Brioche does not go with burgers! Burgers are savory and brioche is like cake!

Did the Uk get a load of brioche in our Brexit deal or something?

This has been the case for years before Brexit hasn’t it?? All my adult life AFAIK! But no YANBU, it’s a rank combo.

Shorthairlady · 17/07/2021 21:51

I find brioche sticks to the top of my mouth and never seems to hug the burger/fillings the way a normal burger bun does. It's almost like it's afraid to mingle.

LubaLuca · 17/07/2021 21:51

Agreed. They're too rich and cakey and aren't robust enough to hold a burger plus trimmings in place. I buy burger buns from Sainsbury's bakery counter, because they're just standard bread buns with sesame seeds on top.

People think everything has to have an 'upgrade'.

Lipsandlashes · 17/07/2021 21:52

Awful. I ordered eggs benedict for brunch the other day and it came on brioche. I sent it back as it was disgusting

lovelylemonylolly · 17/07/2021 21:52

Totally agree, they dont go together at all!

SweetJasmine17 · 17/07/2021 21:52

YANBU

They are disgusting when savoury. It irrationally annoys me because they only use them to look fancy, but they taste inferior.

NautaOcts · 17/07/2021 21:53

YANBU

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/07/2021 21:53

I like brioche buns with burgers. I slightly toast mine.

BeHappyAndSmile · 17/07/2021 21:54

This debate happens every time we have burgers. I love brioche buns with them and my partner prefers normal buns. As it's me that does the shopping though brioche always wins Wink

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 21:55

OP, I think you may be my soul mate Grin

This makes me rage more than is normal. Brioche is sweet; it doesn't go with beef!!

MacarenaNonsense · 17/07/2021 21:56

YRNBU Our local free gallery with a good cafe (not many free places where I live - we go there a lot!) does kids sandwiches as a bioche bun with ham or cheese.

Even the kids have the good grace to have faces which say WRF Am I Eating?

MrsAvocet · 17/07/2021 21:59

My DS is allergic to both eggs and sesame (amongst other things) and it's virtually impossible these days to buy a burger that isn't in either brioche or a sesame bun. Plain bread rolls seem to be an endangered species. Very irritating.

WestendVBroadway · 17/07/2021 22:00

I only eat chicken burgers and they absolutely go with Brioche, not sure a beef burger would be the same though.

Shade17 · 17/07/2021 22:11

Americans have chicken burgers made with waffles and maple syrup so this is only just the start.

And bacon. Bacon and maple syrup are just mindblowing. Quite partial to a McD’s sausage and pancakes breakfast with the pancake syrup all over the sausage as well.

5foot418stone · 17/07/2021 22:13

Brioche works with some burgers and toppings but not all. Pretzel bun is the way forward!

PickAChew · 17/07/2021 22:14

I agree. I think it's more an American import than brexit, though. I prefer a good, old fashioned sesame bun, though I usually ask for my burgers naked (obligatory snigger) because I enjoy fries more than bread.

Igetknockeddown · 17/07/2021 22:14

YANBU
However DS loves brioche buns with his burger so I have to buy them if we are having burgers one day, he even has breaded chicken in brioche -yuk!

LemonSwan · 17/07/2021 22:15

I am with you there should be a choice.

Nice white bread buns are lovely. But most white bread buns are shitty.

Brioche buns are usually OK quality so its a safer choice.

But a naice white bun beats a brioche any day.

Zhampagne · 17/07/2021 22:16

Brioche for burgers shouldn’t be too sweet. There should only be about 1-2tbsp of sugar to every 450g flour.

Lanique · 17/07/2021 22:16

I much prefer a brioche bun with my burger - they are lighter and not as stodgy or dry as regular ones. I am one of those odd people that likes sweet and savoury together!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 17/07/2021 22:16

Many of us myself included, are fans of this combination with preferably a gastropub or home scratch cooked decent burger and fresh brioche. Let’s agree to disagree and yes businesses tend to offer what sells best as presumably many of us prefer this too. Perhaps other bread options should be provided to accommodate other tastes in restaurants and shops.

EgSk · 17/07/2021 22:17

Oh, I really like them!!!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/07/2021 22:17

I do like brioche (nice with cheese) but I’ve been looking for proper burger buns since Friday and haven’t been able to find any. No sweet corn relish either. What’s going on - it’s BBQ season!?

OrangeBananaFish · 17/07/2021 22:18

Brioche is better. We buy the Brioche buns when having them at home.

hellywelly3 · 17/07/2021 22:18

Totally agree!
