Brioche buns with burgers...

Why oh why has every pub, restaurant, and street food vendor decided that burgers should now be served in brioche buns?

Brioche does not go with burgers! Burgers are savory and brioche is like cake!

Did the Uk get a load of brioche in our Brexit deal or something?

@TheFoundations I only buy no added sugar sauces! Panic lately as I couldn’t find Heinz NAS ketchup anywhere, only reduced sugar & salt, so I had to switch to a different brand Shock

I blame 'Patty and Bun'. Back in 2013 when I was working in London they started this brioche burger combo. It's a bit wrong.

If they are hell-bent on serving it with a brioche bun, they might as well chuck out the burger and fill it with jam and cream and call it a Victoria Sponge.

Minging!

PigletJohn · 17/07/2021 23:03

A sweet bun makes sense if you serve your burger with American style relishes and ketchup, which are full of sugar.

I love burgers in a bun, if it says brioche on the menu, I have to order something else. Not a happy at all. Brioche are much too sweet. Even the children won’t eat them. Yuk!

godmum56 · 17/07/2021 23:05

@Closetbeanmuncher

Brioche bun and emmental cheese is must in my house with a burger.... Sooo good.
yes but the cheese has to be Monterey Jack
MrsSkylerWhite · 17/07/2021 23:05

Love them, so much less stodgy. Hot dog buns too.

I think you're in the minority, though. Also, don't they still taste sweet-ish?

I don't understand why people are saying sweet and savoury don't go together, when we'reperfectly happy to serve cheese with grapes/chutney/figs, or turkey with cranberry, or roast pork with apple sauce. Pancakes with bacon and syrup, roast duck with hoisin. It's really really ordinary to mix savoury and sweet in the same dish.

Brioche does not go with burgers!

It does! I thought it didn't until I tried it. Bagels do too.

NotMyCat · 17/07/2021 23:08

Here's the takeaway I love and their pretzel buns

I like brioche buns for burgers, I didn't at first but am converted now. I do have a sweet tooth and I also like savoury so its perfect imo. But I liked that bacon trifle so what do I know?!

HeartvsBrain · 17/07/2021 23:08

I now like burgers again since we discovered Brioche buns. They are not sweet at all, and go perfectly with burgers - therefore URBVU! ☺

yes they do but it becomes a much bigger meal then.
ElephantOfRisk · 17/07/2021 23:09

I actually don't mind sweet with savoury but the brioche buns are the wrong kind of sweet to me, also the texture is horrible.

OcadoErrant · 17/07/2021 23:09

YANBU. Brioche is beautiful and best kept for sopping up delicious sauces, not shit grease off a Costco bifurcation.

OcadoErrant · 17/07/2021 23:10

*burger. I’m drunk.

ConfusedDotty · 17/07/2021 23:11

A decent burger cries out for ciabattA. Apparently with a capital A.

jaundicedoutlook · 17/07/2021 23:12

I don’t mind the brioche buns, as long as the bottom is nicely toasted.

If I’m doing home made burgers on the bbq I have to get the Lancashire oven bottom cakes (bizarrely available at our local Sainsbury’s in the SE). Something about their chewiness is just fantastic.

DismantledKing · 17/07/2021 23:12

You’re right. Sainsbury’s don’t seem to do big baps anymore, but there’s loads of bloody brioche

OcadoErrant · 17/07/2021 23:14

Dotty and I are pickled. Which works with brioche.

TheFoundations · 17/07/2021 23:15

How very dare you? My homemade, organic burgers are perfection Grin

Clawdy · 17/07/2021 23:18

I love brioche buns. They're so much nicer than the old barmcakes.
