Hmmmm I have never come across much cheeky fckery before I must say

But my cousin is taking the fcking biscuit right now

Not heard from him in years
Random call few weeks back to ask if he could help to cut down some trees on my land (we never asked him to do so)

So few weeks later
He has made his way to one of our lovely areas of land with huge tractors - made a total mess

Got a random guy to come cut trees - no idea who he is but he throws his litter on the road every day for us to pick up

Now I would say he has cut down 40 trees
Looks like my cousin is building something and has seen the price of timber so tried to pretend he was doing us a favour

I'm raging with him
He has left such a mess

If I say something my elderly father will get upset but it just pisses me off so much I'm tempted to put a lock on the gate so he can't take the rest of the trees away 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I know the price of wood has trebled (am paying for a staircase right now to be made) but no way would I deceive a relative to get free wood!!

Do you have the means of moving the felled trees? If not, do you have farmer friends who could come and move it for you, stash it somewhere safe and plead ignorance when the CF cousin comes for it? I know loads of farmers who would do this for fun (and something to talk about in the pub!).
I'm a (sort of) farmer too, and I reckon that the next stage is likely to be a set of bolt cutters taken to your chain/gate removed/massive hole cut in fence. Someone cheeky enough to fell 40-odd trees won't take this lightly (are there TPOs to worry about?).
You need to make sure the timber is gone, then tell him he isn't welcome on your land any more.

We don't have much money
So we could have used this wood for our winter stove

He received a share of 800k between him and 4 siblings not so long ago
Maybe it is not relevant but he is not stuck for cash

Built a house mortgage free as he had saved for a long time

So very few outgoings

Go and get the timber back. He has stolen it from you.

Tell him he is to pay for any remedial works for the mess he has created, that he is not to enter your land again and you will call the police if he does.

If you don’t give him a rollicking now he will think he has carte blanche to do what he likes in future.

Are you in the UK? Felling licence might apply. Its also still nesting bird season.

A quick Google tells me that it's approximately 1 year for each inch of thickness to dry timber.

Don’t wait for him to turn up. Call him a d tell him not to return and to bring back what you want. He wasn’t clear about what he was going to do.

Wood has gone through the roof, my SIL is a tree surgeon and most people who have trees felled on their land, now opt to sell it themselves to the saw mills for a really good profit
Not too long ago you had to pay for the tree surgeon to take away the wood (who will them promptly sell in on themselves)

You could message him and say glad you got the trees you wanted, going rate is £x per tree but you can pay me £y per tree because you did cut them down yourself. My bank details are ... And I'll need it by the end of the week.

And be absolutely astonished when he kicks off because surely he didn't think he was getting 40 trees for free? Gosh. Well, if he doesn't want to pay, he can bring them back and you'll use them.

Tbh, I'd march round there with someone to help me, load the trees and call him a total twat but that's probably a bit too much 😁

Glad you've got the padlock on but don't just "hope he takes the hint".
Phone and tell him you aren't allowing him to take any more of your trees, then email also so that you have it in writing that he's been told.

Wouldn't your Dad be upset to know the CF has caused all that damage?

Get a friend with a suitable vehicle or trailer to go and get it NOW!!!! They'll be planning to put it in a kiln or to have someone take it away over the weekend potentially. Go and take them before it gets taken!!!
