The Italian Captain is a bully!

The Italian Football Captain is a horrible bully.

He should have got a red card for the way he treated Saka pulling his shirt collar and dragging him to the floor.

Also when Italy were against Spain the way he grabbed the Spanish captain persuading him to do penalties on the Italian side.

I can’t stand him. He deserves no praise and his team played dirty!

I think when it goes to penalties then any player who has been given a card, or been subbed on for someone who had a card shouldn't be allowed to take a penalty.

This wouldn't penalise as you think as it's least likely that the strikers get booked and more likely to be defenders as they tackle more often. Defenders can and do take penalties but it's more likely to be the attacking players.

It would throw up some random results that wouldn't make the overall game any fairer. It's perfectly possible for completely genuine honest players to mistime a tackle and get a yellow card. Why then penalise them twice? A yellow card already puts you on a warning and changes the way you play in case you get another one.

I agree that the foul on Saka was cynical and looked awful. Any fan moaning about Sterling diving but excusing that is a massive hypocrite.

@Eskarina1

YANBU.

Italy deserved to win, I'm not griping about the results but that tackle from a 36 year old captain towards a teenager was deeply, deeply unpleasant. Reminded me of watching some England/Argentina games.

Age is irrelevant while playing the game. While on the park they are players.

Should he not have tackled him just because he's a teenager?

@TheLeadbetterLife

It was a tactical foul OP, however i have been fascinated by Chiellini in this tournament. I think he has specific psych out techniques that he uses with the opposing captains. Very dominating, physically friendly and over-cheerful, like those people who shake hands deliberately firmly.

Clever man. You could see in the semi-final that the Spanish captain was quite pissed off with him, but had to go along with it to appear sporting.

That whole italian squad was formidable in every way.

This is why we tipped Italy to win on Sunday as neutral watchers. Chiellini has provided a master class in psychological tactics.

Overall the Italian team are more mature too knowing exactly where to draw the line on tactical fouls and playing within an inch of the rules.

That's without considering the powerhouse that is their keeper. Donnarumma is something else! Frankly we were surprised that England scored early.

English players aren't squeaky clean in terms of tactics either. Sterling and Kane are often found rolling around on the floor in 'agony' until they see the ref has awarded free kick/penalty then running around fine 2 minutes later.

That being said, from what we've seen we're tipping Spain and England to do well in the World Cup. Both teams are young and working together really well. If they can strengthen that and bolster the experience both could be serious contenders in 2 years.

@Cushionsnotpillows

Oh and the only thing that goes down faster than Harry Kane is an ejected pilot without a parachute. It's laughable there's a petition!
😂😂- must remember that one!
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/07/2021 16:30

As I said I thought his foul was dreadful and he was rightly yellow carded. I find the ridiculous dives over nothing more sneaky tho, they don't get a card but, with a lesser referee, they get rewarded for the performance. This has really increased in recent years imo.

Would agree.

There was no doubt the yellow card was deserved. But diving to try to get a penalty is blatant cheating and referees should be harsher with players who do that. It's ruining the game.

LongCovidcandoone · 13/07/2021 16:36

Just because Chiellini is always aggressive doesn’t justify the foul on Saka...

TBF Maguire is also known for being unnecessarily aggressive. Also embarrassing.

The diving shite, the bullying, the racist fans. It’s a wonder anyone bothers really!

The petition is a nonsense.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/07/2021 16:36

Absolutely. Get up and keep playing fgs. Of course there will be a few knocks but until it's blown up, you keep fighting.

Cooldryplace · 13/07/2021 16:42

He took one for the team. Saka was about to send Sterling and had to be stopped. It was a cynical professional foul, similar to many you'll see in the Premiership every week and deserved the yellow card it got, no more. The Italians are known for their defending and very good at it.

JohnStonesMissus · 13/07/2021 16:42

@DamsonJammyBastard

110,000 people have signed the petition. Cringe. The England team would tell those 110K people to get over it and stop making a spectacle of themselves.
There was also a petition for a rematch of the England Denmark game, I don't think that came from anyone in England...

This was written pre-final but is an interesting article on Chiellini and his use of psychology.

IllForTooLong · 13/07/2021 16:47

😂😂😂

Sorry but you have people on the pitch to deal with that’s sort of incident.
They did at the level they thought was ok/appropriate. Just like they did with all the other matches.

This posts just makes you look like a bad loser tbh.

iklboo · 13/07/2021 16:59

I don't watch football - obviously - so I wonder how it would affect the game if yellow cards were a 'sin bin' offence like in rugby?

Chippingbird23 · 13/07/2021 17:06

I think the way the English fans behaved are far more disgusting bullies. Drunk and littering everywhere. Kicking a man when he is down calling him a racist names. A drunk unclassy England fan throwing a drink over an Italian who just ignored it because they have more class. Racist abuse towards the best players on the team. Get over it ! It’s football. Try again

What does that have to do with the players?

Agreed, and it’s only one year to wait now!

It would slow it down too much.

If you don't watch football then why make suggestions for changes to it? It is the game that it is, the rules don't need changed.

For Christ's sake there are several threads about this, go and moan on there because we're talking about the players an the match..

They were just asking, no need to be arsey.

Doesn't justify the foul, but the punishment was a yellow card. He knew that and was willing to take the gamble. He didn't get away with it.
JohnStonesMissus · 13/07/2021 17:17

Apparently Chiellini puts curses on rival players!
