Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

Have the vaccine or get a job that doesn’t involve being a caret for vulnerable people. It’s not exactly difficult

Mangofandangoo · 16/06/2021 18:59

Just get the vaccine

audweb · 16/06/2021 19:00

Firstly people were always going to catch COVID after getting a vaccine - it’s like a flu one it doesn’t stop it, it just reduces the severity.

Secondly, I’ve worked frontline care for years. Happily taken flu jabs and swine flu etc because I’m working with vulnerable people who often might not either be able to have it, or who if they caught something might have a far worse reaction to it than I would. Unless you have a huge medical issue stopping you, I wouldn’t have any issue taking a jab working in a care environment.

Also cynically - private care homes will want this, as am sure people will put their money to care homes where they can say the staff are fully vaccinated.

TheWaif · 16/06/2021 19:00

Get the vaccine?

Aquamarine1029 · 16/06/2021 19:01

Find a new job then.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 16/06/2021 19:03

I just got a job in care as well and the first thing they asked me was the vaccine

malmi · 16/06/2021 19:04

I'd say on balance get the vaccine, enough people have had it now that we can see that the risks are absolutely minimal. Worth it to keep your job.

Sadsiblingatsea · 16/06/2021 19:05

I don’t blame you OP.
This vaccine has too many side effects.

DGFB · 16/06/2021 19:06

Get the vaccine or find a new job? I’m astounded that people think it’s ok to look after the vulnerable without a vaccine.
Covid is far more risky than any of the side effects of being jabbed.

SoddingWeddings · 16/06/2021 19:06

Get any of the vaccines other than the AZ then - you do actually have a choice.

And opting to work in a care home without a vaccination (by choice, not clinical necessity) is both selfish and potentially dangerous to the people you're caring for.

Ylvamoon · 16/06/2021 19:07

I really think that you have chosen the wrong profession.

Getting the vaccine (or any vaccine) is not just for your own benefit but also for the benefit of the vunruble people you will be working with.

Don't you want to do be fit & healthy so you can do your job properly?

maddening · 16/06/2021 19:07

Do proper research to really understand how vaccines work and how these ones are created.

If after that you still cannot reconcile yourself with getting the vaccine then you need to get a.new job.

Sushirolls · 16/06/2021 19:08

Me. I was sacked yesterday, for standing up for my basic human rights and bodily autonomy. I'm not the only one, either.

aibubaby · 16/06/2021 19:08

I guess if you feel that strongly against it you need to look either for care work that doesn't require it or work in another industry.

As a lot of care and medical jobs require certain vaccinations I can't see why you'd be surprised by it.

devildeepbluesea · 16/06/2021 19:08

You have 2 choices. Get the vaccine or get a new job.

Sirzy · 16/06/2021 19:08

My view is those working in caring professions have a duty of care to those they care for and that includes ensuring that (unless they have a genuine medical reason) appropriate vaccines are up to date.

We have seen the damage covid can cause in a care home. Anyone who works in one who isn’t willing to prevent a repeat of that maybe needs to reconsider where they work

Excilente · 16/06/2021 19:09

get the vaccine or get another job.. you don't have a choice.

aibubaby · 16/06/2021 19:09

Should add that my grandad has just gone into a care home where all staff are vaccinated - we're glad of the increased peace of mind. So understandable that care companies want to be able to provide that to their clients.

Scrambledcustard · 16/06/2021 19:10

The vaccine doest stop you from passing it on though.

OP your probably going to have to get a new job if you dont want it. Making vaccines mandatory is against civil rights and should not be forced

Emmelina · 16/06/2021 19:11

It’s a choice. You can choose to work in care, therefore get the vaccine. Or, you can choose not to get the vaccine, in which case I’d recommend searching for work in a profession that doesn’t require you to have the vaccine before you are let go. It’ll look better on your work history to have left for another job rather than a dismissal.

Ridingthegravytrain · 16/06/2021 19:11

Hopefully enough people will let their feet do the talking

TheGumption · 16/06/2021 19:12

Better get back to looking for a job then!

BlatantlyNameChanged · 16/06/2021 19:12

This vaccine has too many side effects.

The majority of side effects - sore arm, feeling unwell, headache, etc - are shortlived and are common to other vaccines too. The risk of blood clots and more serious side effects is, so far, minimal.

Don't you want to do be fit & healthy so you can do your job properly?

Exactly this. Quite aside from the wellbeing of your patients, you're working in a sector that puts you at high risk of contracting covid - why wouldn't you want to protect yourself?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 16/06/2021 19:13

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.
Would it help to read my experience of having had 2 doses of the pfizer vaccine? I didn't have a blood clot, or any rashes, haven't had covid in the almost 3 months since jab 2, and I haven't died. My DP has had 2 doses of AZ and again no blood clots, rashes, or covid.

If you really don't want to be vaccinated, then you'll need to find another job.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 16/06/2021 19:14

The vaccine doest stop you from passing it on though.

There is growing evidence that it does stop you from passing it on.
