Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

Me. I was bloody excellent at my job. Cared for adults with korsakoff dementia and some jobs were elderly with dementia. I’ve seen some terrible co workers in my time. I was one of the good ones.

I moved across the country just before covid and now can’t go back after having my baby.

I understand the fear, but a lot of good people will be lost from the profession.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 16/06/2021 20:08

well I thought wearing the PPE and getting tested every week was enough?

If it was there wouldnt have been the 2 huge waves of Covid we have had, or the masses of deaths of elderly people/those in care homes.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 16/06/2021 20:08

@FightingFiles

If you want to get into medicine you will need to learn to read and understand evidence, and assess your sources. This is a good place to start.
^ This...

The proportion of people who have had a likely bad reaction to the jab is MINISCULE...even the people who hace been ill for a week is tiny....
The proportion who have had a 24 reaction have been light aching and sore arms...
Eceryobe in my family and me and my partner have been double jabbed... None of us are dead /had bad reactions....

4 people close to me died during the height.

I suppose you're never intending taking oral contraceptives etc? Grin... Much higher risk of clotting /death...

Missthedog · 16/06/2021 20:11

You are asking the wrong demographic, I think. I am sure most mumsnetters on the vivid threads will be happy to stay on lockdown and bathe in hand sanitiser for ever, while wearing multiple face masks and being double vaccinated!

Seesawmummadaw · 16/06/2021 20:14

I work with vulnerable people (not nursing home), it’s my duty to protect them as best as I can.

I don't have any specific health concerns and I want it to stay that way, hence my refusal to take this new vaccine.
My body needs to last me my whole life, I have five children to provide for and I need to remain well enough to be economically active for as long as possible.

My DM has a myriad of autoimmune disorders and hasn't been able to work for the last fifteen years due to these.
My cousin, who is thirty nine on my paternal side has scleroderma, another IM condition and is awaiting a lung transplant.

I have nursed through outbreaks of covid with PPE which the RCN have admitted are woefully inadequate and I have never tested positive for covid, despite 90% of my colleagues testing positive. The virus is not indiscriminate by any means and I do not feel myself to be at personal risk of contracting it or subsequently transmitting it.

My blood group is O -ve which, according to preliminary findings confers protection. I also follow a ketogenic diet, which again is thought to be a protective factor.

I am exercising my right to make a risk assessment of my own individual circumstances and this leads me to refuse to take the vaccine at this point.

I have a first class honours degree and over a decade of experience in this sector. I will be a great loss to my workplace but my health and bodily autonomy are paramount.

Fuck you Hancock.[/quote]
I'm usually quite polite and enjoy learning from mumsnet.

But a keto diet 😂 I presume you are talking in some way about reducing inflammation (ie carbs/sugar) but oh my goodness eating bloody chicken is not going to protect you from covid

Anecdotally I can see you feel invincible given you don't appear to have contracted covid yet.

I did not realise there were so many care staff against protecting their residents.

Just get the vaccine. It's very straightforward.
AffableApple · 16/06/2021 20:15

I'm sure that the main reason we're hearing about blood clots is because men are having the vaccine. Women have put up with a higher risk of clots from oral contraceptives for years.

It's up to you if you have the vaccine or not, but you couldn't work on the front line if you didn't, as that wouldn't be fair on vulnerable people.

ZednotZee · 16/06/2021 20:15

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

I'm sorry but you are mistaken.

The overwhelming proportion of outbreaks within care homes were prior to mass testing of staff and wholly due to the discharge of covid +ve patients from NHS hospitals.

But you can ignore that if you like and carry on scapegoating our sector. I'm sure Mr Hancock will be very pleased with the narrative he has successfully span fro you.

hulahooper2 · 16/06/2021 20:16

Get the vaccine or look for another job , I would t want any of my family being looked after by someone not vaccinated

viques · 16/06/2021 20:16

@Sushirolls

Me. I was sacked yesterday, for standing up for my basic human rights and bodily autonomy. I'm not the only one, either.
You had a choice and you decided what was best for you. Fair enough. The people in care homes don’t have a choice, so that is why they have been given this protection.

Hope you find another job soon.

oh bless. you've done your research and you have a degree. yet it doesn't stop you spouting claptrap Hmm

babbaloushka · 16/06/2021 20:17

@gobbynorthernbird

OP, I'm not entirely sure you're a suitable candidate for medicine.
Hoping someone would say this...
MissConductUS · 16/06/2021 20:17

The phase three trials aren’t completed yet and there are increasing reports of many many side effects and not just clots but migraines, fatigue and neurological issues

Rubbish. This is from last November.

ZednotZee · 16/06/2021 20:19

@sparemonitor

I'm fortunate to have other career options whatever you think of my stance.

I will not be risking my health with this vaccine.

Mamascoven · 16/06/2021 20:20

@hulahooper2
😂

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 16/06/2021 20:21

@Maybevaccine

I'll have to get the vaccine aren't I? I mean now that they want to make it compulsory for care workers and NHS, I have to get it. My goal is it get into medicine in 2023, which is why I got this job so I can have some work experience. I literally have no choice as I'm always going to be working in healthcare.
It’s already the case that you will have to be vaccinated against hepatitis B if you intend to practice as a medic.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/06/2021 20:23

It's okay them having these rules and barking out these orders. However The Government will look well if there's a,massive walk out. Yes I know people can easily be replaced but how long would that take.

baldafrique · 16/06/2021 20:23

Hep B vaccines are to protect clinicians from infected patients.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 16/06/2021 20:24

Original poster how about spinning your question and concerns around? If you are that elderly vulnerable person in the care home - how would you expect to be treated? Would you be happy to be in regular repeat close proximity contact with someone who is not vaccinated? Do you think they truly care about your vulnerabilities by taking all known medical beneficial risk mitigation measures which incidentally also protects the person taking these measures themselves as well as others next to them such as family members etc.

Spyro1234 · 16/06/2021 20:26

@TheGumption

What's your motivation to go into medicine if you have no confidence in science?!
I was coming here to say that!
BlatantlyNameChanged · 16/06/2021 20:26

Hep B vaccines are to protect clinicians from infected patients

Much the same as a covid jab then which also protects clinicians from infected patients?

whynotwhatknot · 16/06/2021 20:26

Im so glad someones leaving the sector over this-ketogenics and blood types -we dont need that sort of twattery in the nhs
