To want a black and rose gold pram for our baby boy

I'm 6 months pregnant and we've decided on getting the Egg2 travel system for our baby boy. I've fallen in love with the black diamond and rose gold edition:

I know it's on the girlier side but I think it's absolutely stunning and don't see what the big deal is about not getting such a pram for a baby boy. It's not like I've chosen a pink pram! Dh is completely against it but I know ultimately he'll succumb to my charms 😅 He is worried about what everyone else will think and say though. Family that I have shown think it's mad to get this pram for a boy due to the rose gold and glittery fabric. Is it really that mad??

My 2nd choice and Dh's 1st choice of colour is the Jurassic grey:

I know rose gold is not to everyone's taste but I personally love it and the pram make me swoon! It's on the pricier side so I don't want us to make the wrong decision.

Go for it, baby won't care as long as he's safe and comfortable.

Rachie1973 · 09/06/2021 10:11

It’s fine so long as you can cope with ‘awww cute girl’ comments. People can and do make calls on colour, regardless of it being 2021.

I prefer the grey anyways.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 09/06/2021 10:12

Choose whatever colour you like. This has no relation to the sex of your baby. I’d be choosing the one I thought would hide the poo/food/vomit stains the best, to be honest.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/06/2021 10:12

Will you mind if people always assume your baby is a girl?

Whinge · 09/06/2021 10:12

I think it looks fine. Black is a practical colour and I assume the grey would show more stains / look dirty and worn more quickly.

Although as someone who has never bought a pram i'd shocked at just how much they cost. Is it normal to spend £1.5k on a pram? Shock

MinesAPintOfTea · 09/06/2021 10:12

Do you want your DH to feel comfortable taking his son out for walks alone? Get one that is comfortable to use and both of you like the appearance of.

Lockheart · 09/06/2021 10:12

Buy whatever you like if you can afford it, why would you be unreasonable?

Crowsaregreat · 09/06/2021 10:13

I can't really see the difference. It'll get covered in mud and throw up anyway.

I would be worried about having a DH with such a rigid approach to gender though.

Dollywilde · 09/06/2021 10:13

Are you planning on recycling it for #2 OP? It’s just that rose gold is very of its time and if you’re not planning on buying another pram if you have another baby it might look a bit dated and neutral could be better...

Personally I vote you do what you like and you shouldn’t be swayed by it looking ‘girly’ but my main criteria when I bought a pram was that it was neutrally coloured, mostly because I didn’t want it to clash with my own outfits Blush Grin

Tillied · 09/06/2021 10:14

No one will be arsed in real life, DD had a blue pram and then a stroller with dragons and dinosaurs on, it wasn't a big deal.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/06/2021 10:14

I reality, the majority of people don't notice the colour of the pram. It's just an accessory for the parents.

The black pram just looks black to me.

I had a red and black pram. Two girls. Then had a dinosaur stroller, and a pink stroller at different times. No one noticed then either

More important factors is it meeting your lifestyle choices and budget. Plus have an extremely safe car seat in your car.

Oh but I do agree you should both agree on a pram, you’re equal parents and it’s a huge outlay.

SamMil · 09/06/2021 10:14

Of course, get the one you like. I'm sure your baby won't mind what colour his pram is..!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 09/06/2021 10:14

Love the rose gold, but that will get battered quite quickly tbh.

Not sure DH would be happy to push "pink" whether the occupant was a boy or a girl though!

This. I remember while I was out with DD1 a woman asked if I had bought the pram before I knew she was a girl as it was navy with coloured spots. I wasn't aware that the colour scheme of a pram had to be colour coded depending on the baby's sex. It's just daft.
Dishwashersaurous · 09/06/2021 10:15

It’s a black pram? Why would anyone think that that the baby is a girl ?

Dollywilde · 09/06/2021 10:16

Love the rose gold, but that will get battered quite quickly tbh. also a very good point, mine has a dark steel frame and it hides all the nasty bumps!

LoopTheLoops · 09/06/2021 10:17

Yes go for it, I had a pink pram with dd and I was still asked if she was a boy Hmm ds had a purple pram.

Astraturf · 09/06/2021 10:18

Get whichever pram you like - it's you who will be pushing it around a lot of the time.

CanofCant · 09/06/2021 10:18

I commented before looking at the photos and now I have I think your husband is even more ridiculous than before. I agree with a PP, his rigid approach to gender would really bother me too.

Why, will a rose gold pram shrivel his penis?

Seriously? Hmm

Ponoka7 · 09/06/2021 10:21

Ray-Ban and a few other designers are doing rose gold men's sunglasses. Rose gold looks stunning with a tan/dark skin tone. I love seeing a man in a pink shirt.

"Not sure DH would be happy to push "pink" whether the occupant was a boy or a girl though!"

I would lose respect and think that they were a lot thicker than I realised.

Surely though it should be the pram both parents agree on? One shouldn’t get overall say either way.

Personally I would go for the grey mainly because it’s less likely to age and therefore easier to sell for a decent price - which if paying that much I would want!
