To want a black and rose gold pram for our baby boy

I'm 6 months pregnant and we've decided on getting the Egg2 travel system for our baby boy. I've fallen in love with the black diamond and rose gold edition:

I know it's on the girlier side but I think it's absolutely stunning and don't see what the big deal is about not getting such a pram for a baby boy. It's not like I've chosen a pink pram! Dh is completely against it but I know ultimately he'll succumb to my charms 😅 He is worried about what everyone else will think and say though. Family that I have shown think it's mad to get this pram for a boy due to the rose gold and glittery fabric. Is it really that mad??

My 2nd choice and Dh's 1st choice of colour is the Jurassic grey:

I know rose gold is not to everyone's taste but I personally love it and the pram make me swoon! It's on the pricier side so I don't want us to make the wrong decision.

Do people who assume a pram colour is gendered also assume you buy a new pram if you have a child of a different sex

I know someone that did this. Pink pushchair for her DD, sold it and bought a blue one when DS came along.

BlueDucky · 09/06/2021 11:11

I'd choose the grey as it will be easier to resell

Taybz · 09/06/2021 11:11

@awmum2b

I really like it, but no way would i spend that amount of cash on a travel system....we only used ours for 9 months before i got fed up of it taking up my whole car!

Although i do know people that are still using theirs at 3, so if you are planning on using it long term it could be worth the investment.

I went for an Ickle Bubba as it had the lightest car seat...they do one in bronze that looks really nice.

I saw this and loved it initially until I pushed it around. We saw an iCandy before it and compared it to that so unfortunately there was no comparison. I still think it's a pretty good pram though.

@JocastaNu

You realise that you'll end up switching to a cheap stroller once the kid is around 1 right?
When I had my first she had an expensive 3 in one thing and it drove me nuts! I soon bought a smaller stroller and have done with all my others. Shopping was a nightmare, turning corners was so awkward and I couldn’t get anywhere quickly
FourTeaFallOut · 09/06/2021 11:12

Wouldn't a black pram/buggy be uncomfortably hot for ds in the summer?

AgathaAllAlong · 09/06/2021 11:13

Yep agree is fine - our pram for DS was blue and if I had a DD next then I would absoluetly keep the same pram.

SafferUpNorth · 09/06/2021 11:13

@BarbaraofSeville

On the matter of the money, unless you are really really well off, there's always something that the money would be better spent on, even if you think you can afford the super expensive pram.

Like the PP who bought a perfectly decent £250 pram, you could put the £1250 difference in an index tracker fund, that money could be worth thousands by the time that the baby is 18. A few decisions like that and you can really save a huge sum to give the child a good start in life, for the cost of having more reasonably priced baby equipment, the difference in performance, safety etc being inconsequential.

Yep, my point exactly.
Kokosrieksts · 09/06/2021 11:13

I think you are crazy to spend 1.5k on a pram. (Misses the point fully) 😂

Taybz · 09/06/2021 11:14

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I agree with the others that the shiny chassis is going to show the scuffs badly, especially if you're hauling it in and out of the boot.

Are you planning on having two quite close together? Because you're paying a premium for the ability to turn it into a tandem.

Also, have you seen it in person because I can't find any mention of whether or not it has four-wheel suspension, hopefully at that price it does. When you try them on the shop floor you don't notice the difference between the ones with good suspension and the others but, believe me, you will notice the difference on outdoor surfaces.

We 'test drove' loads of prams before settling on this one. We were really impressed with the quality of the suspension, weight, ease, accessories etc. We even preferred it to the iCandy which was our first choice.

It's a pram, for moving a child around in. Don't most people choose something they like? The same with cars?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/06/2021 11:16

John Lewis also have Uppababy Vista 2 which generally comes out very well in comparisons with other systems of the same type (I can't find a review that compares it directly with the Egg 2 though). The Uppababy comes in some really gorgeous fabric colours and the chassis it shiny-ish.

MrsMaizel · 09/06/2021 11:16

Wow prams are so expensive these days !

sowhatsnext · 09/06/2021 11:16

TBH no one else cares what pram you have, well not in my circle of friends anyway Hmm

This appears to be more of a humble brag situ than anything else IMO

Hoppinggreen · 09/06/2021 11:17

Unless you are the only one using it I think you should both agree whatever the item and colour.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 09/06/2021 11:17

I nearly got the Mamas & Papas Sola2 in black and Rose Gold for my son. It doesn't even cross my mind that it was girly.
I went for the black and grey one in the end because I love grey (I have boring tastes 🤣)!

If you love it, you should get it.

Hallyup6 · 09/06/2021 11:17

£1.5k on a pram?! Are you absolutely bonkers?! That's insane. After numerous, reasonably expensive prams (5 kids), I've decide they're all a pain in the arse and the best one I've had is a £30 second hand eBay stroller.

I wouldn't buy a rose gold pram for a boy because it looks too girly to me (there, I've said it) and won't match the inevitable blue blankets.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 09/06/2021 11:18

I must add though that my pram was around a thousand pounds cheaper though.
At that price I'd worry about scratching the frame.

VettiyaIruken · 09/06/2021 11:19

YANBU. The pram is for the parent. The baby doesn't give a shit.

Womendohavevaginasnick · 09/06/2021 11:19

I'd buy something with a bigger seat or it will be to replace once child gets past 9 months

diddlediddledump · 09/06/2021 11:19

Tbh with you, I really don't like the rose gold. I think it's made a beautiful sleek pram look tacky whether you have a girl or a boy but I'm boring anyway.

PegPeople · 09/06/2021 11:20

If the price tag, colour and the fact it will get scratched and look well used in a few uses doesn't bother you then you should buy it, its your choice at the end of the day.

I would however just add a note of caution. I know 3 people who brought all singing all dancing travel systems who had babies who never used them as they preferred the sling.

This might not be a problem if the pushchair still looks almost brand new and you can sell it as hardly used and recoup lots of the initial spend. However one with this type of shiny framework sadly won't look new even after only a few uses so this wouldn't be possible if baby ended up hating the pushchair.

User52739 · 09/06/2021 11:20

Your baby will not care. He doesn’t understand colours or gender stereotypes Smile and the design of the pram is more for you than him! I have a black and rose gold pram for my son and it’s lovely.

Peach01 · 09/06/2021 11:21

Are people really assuming OP can't buy the pram, save for her child's future and live comfortably? She hasn't asked for financial guidance or divulged she's in that position.

Greenmarmalade · 09/06/2021 11:22

But whatever you like!

Northernlass99 · 09/06/2021 11:23

I wouldn't even notice what colour pram you had.
