To want a black and rose gold pram for our baby boy

I'm 6 months pregnant and we've decided on getting the Egg2 travel system for our baby boy. I've fallen in love with the black diamond and rose gold edition:

I know it's on the girlier side but I think it's absolutely stunning and don't see what the big deal is about not getting such a pram for a baby boy. It's not like I've chosen a pink pram! Dh is completely against it but I know ultimately he'll succumb to my charms 😅 He is worried about what everyone else will think and say though. Family that I have shown think it's mad to get this pram for a boy due to the rose gold and glittery fabric. Is it really that mad??

My 2nd choice and Dh's 1st choice of colour is the Jurassic grey:

I know rose gold is not to everyone's taste but I personally love it and the pram make me swoon! It's on the pricier side so I don't want us to make the wrong decision.

You'll soon forget about what the pram looks like, it won't even register after the first couple of times of being out and about, with an unsettled baby, trying to wrestle it and the baby and all the joys of parenthood.

I'd compromise I think and get something that you both like, I think the rose gold is maybe a wee bit trendy (tacky) and would probably show up scratches, dents etc and would date if you're planning on using it for subsequent little people.

Whatever you decide enjoy every second of being a mum 💐

A pram isn't "an investment". An investment is something that potentially makes you money. This is a piece of shiny consumer tat.

I'm constantly amazed that women fall for this marketing shit.

Also omg has anyone seen the advert for the grey one. This is clearly the pram the avengers would buy as parents. How hot is the man?! This is hilarious.

PinkSyCo · 17/04/2022 16:29

For £1600 I’d expect the metal parts to be made of real gold! It is lovely though, but I think if you expect your DH to push the pram and help pay for it he should get a say.

[/quote] And of COURSE he drives a Range Rover!

Prams are so much more dramatic these days.

@Whinge

I think it looks fine. Black is a practical colour and I assume the grey would show more stains / look dirty and worn more quickly.

Although as someone who has never bought a pram i'd shocked at just how much they cost. Is it normal to spend £1.5k on a pram? Shock

I bought my pram in the dark ages, I think it was £25. Even with inflation that is a huge increase.
TheBigDilemma · 17/04/2022 16:39

@MinesAPintOfTea

Do you want your DH to feel comfortable taking his son out for walks alone? Get one that is comfortable to use and both of you like the appearance of.
That. The baby won’t care but you also need to consider Dad’s views need to be considered if you want him to feel an equal partner when raising a kid.

Fuck me, talk about over EGGing it! Mind you, if the fella comes with it maybe it’s worth the 1600 quid!

RealBecca · 17/04/2022 16:43

If he hates rose gold and you both like grey then it's a no brainer. You get the grey.

I say this kindly, having a baby isnt your "experience" to have everything you ever wanted, just get a functional pram you both like - the grey one.

Soresoresore · 17/04/2022 16:44

I would definitely buy the grey.

It will be easier to sell on (when your baby is 5 months old and you get sick of lugging around the heavy, bulky ‘travel system’) 😅

godmum56 · 17/04/2022 16:45

do what you like but HOW MUCH?????????

tshirtsuntan · 17/04/2022 16:45

I had a black/champagne pram for my ds- my mum said it looked like a rottweiler!

🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♂️ 🧟

Hope you're getting paid double for working Easter Sunday @notbecomingmumsy? 😂

RealBecca · 17/04/2022 16:47

Ahhh caught by a zombie!

I'd love to know what OP went for.

Justkidding55 · 17/04/2022 16:48

It’s a pram. It will be covered in stains, dribble and old raisins soon anyway. A baby isn’t a fashion accessory.

Reastie · 17/04/2022 16:50

We have a buggy with a bright pink hood and a boy. He doesn’t mind (he likes pink) and I don’t care if other people think I ‘should’ have a more boyish colour for a boy - why should it matter?!

rwalker · 17/04/2022 16:50

If it was a£100 buggy I'd say go for it but such a big outlay I think if one of you has revastions and doesn't like it pick something else

sausagepastapot · 17/04/2022 16:51

You have a lot to learn op...

It's fine, it's a pram ffs, literally no one will give a shit!

Nelliephant1 · 17/04/2022 16:51

MUST CHECK THREAD DATE BEFORE REPLYING IN FUTURE 😫😫😫😫😫

Fairyliz · 17/04/2022 16:54

I don’t think the colour really matters but I’m gobsmacked at the price, do people really spend this on a pram?
My first question would be what are your savings like? how are you funding maternity leave? Have you got at least six months worth of expenses saved?

luandacool · 17/04/2022 16:57

Ffs can people stop replying to this zombie thread Confused

FabFitFifties · 17/04/2022 16:59

Looks flashy and naff to me, but you probably wouldn't like what I do. It would embarrass me, but not for gender reasons. It's a large cost item, so I would expect a compromise on both sides. Get what you both like - unless of course DH has a habit of blocking your preferences. It's 12 years since I bought a pram, and I'm in my fifties, so I'm out of touch with current fashions.
