On the bbc news, 3 out 4 of the queen's children wished to say something in tribute to their father...

Andrew is obviously been kept on the back burner. They must know there's only so much the less fawning of us can take.

@forfucksakenett eh?

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 10:01

I can't believe what you've written.

You're worried that they are trying to set Andrew up? I'm genuinely stunned at the can do no wrong attitude some folk have to the Royal Family.

It is very clear that he was on this scene. He admits to that. He was friends with these people and spent lots of time with them. Epstein is a convicted child abuser And Maxwell has been charged with trafficking. There is literally a picture of the Duke with his arm around the girl who says he coerced her. The FBI understandably want to speak to him about this and your concern is that they'll twist his words and attempt to frame him? Why would they want to do that? Surely they just want to get to the bottom of it.

You'd think he'd want to help tbh. If it turned out that was the company I was keeping then I'd want to help the authorities tbh. For the sake of the victims.

derxa · 12/04/2021 10:04

@Roussette

His Dad just died, give the guy a break!

Perhaps we could say that about Harry too? That would be nice

I think everybody should be given a break. It's a period of mourning for people you may or may not like.
ImpatiensI · 12/04/2021 10:25

Well now I have to say 'jesus christ' back to you @forfucksakenett. This is the US law enforcement, they cannot be trusted one inch.

You'd think he'd want to help tbh.
He has offered to 'help'.

Very virtuous of you but most ppl would be shit scared if they knew the FBI were after them, even if they hadn't done anything wrong! Most ppl would look to protect themself.

I'm genuinely stunned at the can do no wrong attitude some folk have to the Royal Family.

I already said I don't like PA and he's a money-grubbing sleaze. That doesn't make him guilty. Ppl like you have already convicted him and so have the FBI.

CathyorClaire · 12/04/2021 10:29

@Roussette

Of course it's a tentative rehabilitation exercise. Whilst I have sympathy that he has lost his Father, there was NO need for him to stand and talk to the cameras. I know the press asked him a question, he could easily have said...thank you for your kind thoughts, and left it to Edward and Sophie. But no, he or the palace are testing the waters
Yes this. Absolutely.

There's no way a this scenario wasn't foreseen and planned for by the palace. Someone gave him the OK.

And by 'maudlin' I'm referrring to the toe-curling reference to The Nation's Grandfather. It was like a flashback to the People's Princess only not quite as pithy.

The rest of his sentiment was fine. I just don't want to hear or see him saying it.

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 10:37

@ImpatiensI offering to type answers to typed questions isn't an offer of help. It suggests that all he's interested in is covering his own arse.

I have no idea if he's guilty of a crime or not but his behaviour suggests that he's trying to hide something.

I have no idea if the FBI is corrupt. I'd be very surprised though if they tried to frame a Prince from another country given that he will have the best lawyers at his disposal and the spotlight of the media and world on them.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 12/04/2021 10:42

Prince Andrew is white and very wealthy. The US law enforcement agencies generally have a reputation for treating that kind of person pretty well.

ohforarainyday · 12/04/2021 10:48

Christ, this thread.

Endless wide-eyed "but why don't the FBI just book some flights and pop along to Windsor Castle with their handcuffs I'm SO confused!!" as though laws about jurisdiction don't exist.

When it's pointed out that the FBI, as a domestic organisation, cannot operate outside of the US except as liaisons to foreign law enforcement agencies, everyone starts shouting about the FBI being "corrupt" when it's the Met Police helping to protect Andrew, and there's tons of evidence about the Met being corrupt.

At least this thread - and I notice people on Twitter have been screencapping this thread like mad - will exist as proof the next time someone lies that "no one on Mumsnet has ever defended Andrew."

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2021 10:50

Oooh screencapping on Twitter Grin

I am not defending PA, it'll presumably come out in the wash as time goes on I am just baffled how everyone is so very sure of all their facts regarding all this and post them on here with such confidence. Confused

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 12/04/2021 11:00

Fact - Andrew is wanted for questioning is connection with sex trafficking crimes against minors.

Fact - Andrew is accused of having sex with (aka raping) a trafficked minor in a country where she was below the age of consent.

None of that is speculation.

It probably won't come out in the wash though because he's refusing to be interviewed.
Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2021 11:03

No chance of Ghislaine Maxwell throwing him under the bus in July then?

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 11:03

I suppose she could but we're unlikely to hear his version.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2021 11:05

@forfucksakenett

Nobody knows. That’s the thing. Although they think they do for some reason. Anything could happen.
forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 11:09

I'm not sure what your getting at.

He's accused of a crime.

He's a known associate of a convicted child abuser and an accused trafficker.

He's refusing to cooperate.

This is enough to know to make a judgement about him.

So by your logic if someone is accused of something then they should just refuse to cooperate with law enforcement then so as to maintain the possibility of doubt? Eh that only works for rich white princes.

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 11:10

You're

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 11:11

And when I say make a judgment I just mean personally not that I'm sentencing him to years in jail or whatever.

KarensChoppyBob · 12/04/2021 11:12

Tbh I fear for Ghislaine Mavwell's life before she gets the chance to throw anyone under the bus.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 12/04/2021 11:14

@KarensChoppyBob

Tbh I fear for Ghislaine Mavwell's life before she gets the chance to throw anyone under the bus.
True. The people who don't want her to talk are very wealthy and powerful.
Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2021 11:16

No my logic is stop jumping to conclusions and see what happens. Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes. Just because it looks like nothing is doesn’t mean nothing is!. It’s all speculation and reading between the lines at this stage. I don’t think he can do the saying nothing thing forever personally. But I’m not an expert.

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 11:28

I'm not jumping to conclusions. I'm looking at facts.

Perhaps those calling him a rapist are jumping to conclusions but it's interesting that he doesn't want to address these accusations / help an FBI enquiry.

His inaction is worthy of discussion in my opinion.

Alsohuman · 12/04/2021 11:30

@forfucksakenett

I suppose she could but we're unlikely to hear his version.
We will if she throws him under the bus. He’s not going to sit meekly in Windsor and keep his mouth shut. Particularly with recourse to the best legal advice money can pay for. He’d defend himself under those circumstances. I reckon she’ll give him up as part of a plea bargain personally.

And I haven’t seen one single post defending him incidentally. There’s a minority of posters who respect the way the UK and US judicial systems work, unlike the majority who have condemned him before he’s even been charged.

CallmeHendricks · 12/04/2021 11:32

He can avoid co-operating with the FBI in the way that they would like for a while longer, but the mud has stuck, and I doubt he can ever again represent the Royal Family in an official capacity. He's "over."

KarensChoppyBob · 12/04/2021 11:34

Yea quite a few powerful pals (that we know of).

They are keeping Andrew out the way, arent they?
Roussette · 12/04/2021 12:01

I doubt he can ever again represent the Royal Family in an official capacity. He's "over."

Well... he just did. Yesterday. Talking of the family, how the Queen was, and gave thanks to people whilst calling him 'Grandfather to the Nation'.

This will be the start of his rehabilitation and path back in to the RF if he gets his way. But first we have to wait for the Ghislaine trial.
