Totally putting because it's my face but I don't care.

Started off with a small pain at 4pm and bit of redness. Got worse, pain got worse, kept getting a crackling sensation.
More pain and redness so I went to minor injuries.

There's nothing in there and no abrasion. And in the meantime the blood redness spreads but so does the fluid so they say it's an allergic reaction.

I go home, unconvinced. The eye is feeling better since I put a patch on.

I just took it off and took a photo and there's like a crater under the surface.

What the actual fuckery is this?

It's happened once before and no one knew what it was then either.

Any ideas?!

I called the eye hospital diagnosed a subconjunctival haemorrhage over the phone.
I asked if they were sure? Could it be anything else?

They said no. Confused

They are probably right I guess. There's an appointment at 10.30 but they weren't even sure I would have my eye looked at?!

Don't Know whether to bother going or not.
I can't drive so it's a lot of taxis and trains for potentially nothing??

@SchadenfreudePersonified

This happened to me once many years ago. Eye looked like a fried tomato! It just came out of the blue - I hadn't even done something stupid to it (makes a change! Grin)

I went to the pharmacist and he told me just to use Optrex. I did and it was fine. He seemed very thrilled to be asked a question that didn't involve bunions.

Mine might not have had the same cause as yours though, so get it checked.

Did it cause a searing hot crackeling pain as well?

I'm always bemused why people have these sudden acute injuries and trauma and think to post on Mumsnet before they think to go to A and E? It beggars belief!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2021 07:21

From what I remember WHAAAAAT it was very painful, but as I say it was many years ago and I can't remember details - just that it looked spectacular!

I wore contacts at the time - I don't know if that is significant.

prettypinkflamingo · 23/03/2021 07:25

It's a subconjunctival haemorrhage...looks scary as fuck but is actually harmless and will clear up in a couple of weeks. It can occur from rubbing your eyeball, strong sneezing, lifting heavy items...any heavy exertion basically. You only need to worry if your vision goes blurry, you get sudden pain in your eye or a cracking headache. A one off event is nothing to worry about. Repeated events may indicate an issue with blood pressure etc so would need to be checked with your GP.
Oh, and get a pair of glasses if you don't have any so you don't need to rely on your contact lenses in case it happens again Grin

prettypinkflamingo · 23/03/2021 07:27

You can pop into an opticians (ring first) and they will be able to confirm just to be on the safe side, and will save you some trains and taxi trips!

SnarkyBag · 23/03/2021 07:31

Definitely go to get it looked at honestly you just can’t be too careful with your eyes.

TheRedBalloon · 23/03/2021 07:33

I've had this twice, subconjunctival haemorrhage (not as severe looking as yours.) First time I went to the GP who diagnosed it, he said it's nothing serious and it will go back to normal after a week or so. Second time it happened was on hols abroad. I'd been wearing contacts that time though - dunno if linked? I've just wore glasses since then and no more problems thank God. (I have fam history of glaucoma)

I found putting a warm flannel over my eye helped a little, and keeping eyes moisturised too - I use Viscotears or Gel-Tears.

As yours looks severe, plus you had crackling pain when it happened, I'd suggest getting checked out though op, an optician could refer you straight to your local eye unit if appropriate. Good luck x

The thing is, it isn't just blood shot it's filled with fluid as well.

Is that part of a subconjunctival haemorrhage as well?

Going to A&E is a huge event for lots of people. You might need childcare out of the blue, it might cost you money you don't have in fares, you might have to miss work and be in trouble, you might feel simply unable to get there physically, you might not like the thought of the covid risk, you might have the heeby jeebies about having to wait their statically. If you call the NHS em'y line, they go through their flow chart, and anything that results in a "we don't know" means they default to telling you to go to A&E. This has happened to me a few times, only to be met with complete annoyance/derision at the hospital for taking their time unnecessarily. So people ask on here for reassurance in their decision to go or not. It's not the easiest thing to decide to do if you're home alone
SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2021 07:41

Ah - mine-wasn't fluid-filled from what I can recall.

CappuccinoCounter · 23/03/2021 07:42

Go to the appointment for sure, just to double check! It sounds really odd. If they are an eye specialist A&E, they will take it seriously.

Be prepared to spend ages though. I had to go for what turned out to be torn retina and a haemorrhage resulting from that. Each appointment ended up being ages, with all the checking and different people to look at things, and the drops and waiting in between. But worth it for your vision, buses or trains notwithstanding.

Kittykat93 · 23/03/2021 07:52

Of course go to the appointment.. you cant fuck around when it comes to your eyes

AuditAngel · 23/03/2021 07:54

I had an ulcer on my eye, they were amazed when i said it was uncomfortable but nothing more, but it didn’t look like yours, I would go in the hope they will see me.

PrelovedWithValue · 23/03/2021 07:56

And I'm always bemused by people that don't read the very first post properly, otherwise they would see in this case that op was at minor injuries before posting...

Lordamighty · 23/03/2021 07:58

You should still go to the appointment, even if it turns out to be nothing serious it would be better to get it properly checked.

Roszie · 23/03/2021 08:08

@AnyFucker I remember the good old days when we all name changed to anyfucker type names in disgust at you being banned Grin

I'm very good now. I'm don't want to get another ban myself.

Hope you're all better soon OP.

EyeballWHAAAAAAT · 23/03/2021 08:12

Thanks.
I'm going to call the optician at 8.30 when they open.
I'm hoping I can see them instead!

PeckyOwl · 23/03/2021 08:23

The optician will just refer you to the eye clinic. Go to the appointment you already have - it will be quicker in the long run.

userxx · 23/03/2021 08:27

Lesson to everyone - don't have sex, go to A&E

As life lessons go, this has to be top of the list.

Chanjer · 23/03/2021 08:35

It certainly is used for humans, and it gives you alarming bright yellow snot and saliva for a good few hours afterwards!

Once dropped the lit cherry off a cigarette into my eye the day before going on holiday. Went to the hospital and luckily it wasn't as bad as it could be but the nurse managed to spill that stuff on my face and had to go on holiday with part of my face dyed yellow (or orange or pink I can't really tell those colours apart) Grin

OP it's a burst blood vessel, for whatever reason, probably not serious, follow up pic looks encouraging. Any problem with your eye always warrants medical attention because you've only got the one set. Good luck but I'm confident it's not gonna be serious

EyeballWHAAAAAAT · 23/03/2021 08:36

Called my optician and she's called in sick. 😂
Fuck my life.

I will try some other optician. The receptionist did say that opticians do keep a couple of appointments open for this type of thing, so hopefully I will find someone else to slot me in.

Thank you. I feel pretty confident it's just a haematoma as well now.

I also had a cherry of a cigarette in my eye once as well, someone accidental shoved it into my eye. The pain was absolutely unbearable. I'd rather give birth again then go through that.

@EyeballWHAAAAAAT

I can't post the picture. Dammit!!

It just won't do it

I had this issue yesterday. It allowed me to upload an image, but when I clicked 'post' it didn't do anything.

I am not a new poster and have never been banned or suspended.

GloGirl · 23/03/2021 09:28

A cherry of a cigarette in your EYE? Nearly vomited at the thought. Please wear goggles at all times.
