Totally putting because it's my face but I don't care.

Started off with a small pain at 4pm and bit of redness. Got worse, pain got worse, kept getting a crackling sensation.
More pain and redness so I went to minor injuries.

There's nothing in there and no abrasion. And in the meantime the blood redness spreads but so does the fluid so they say it's an allergic reaction.

I go home, unconvinced. The eye is feeling better since I put a patch on.

I just took it off and took a photo and there's like a crater under the surface.

What the actual fuckery is this?

It's happened once before and no one knew what it was then either.

Any ideas?!

Is your contact lens still in your eye? I've had my eye looking worse than yours but it was a burst blood vessel and because I'm on Warfarin it looked spectacular in the words of the Opthalmologist who did my cataract surgery! I think you should go to A n E though. Is there an eye hospital near you?

TatianaBis · 22/03/2021 21:32

If it's iritis it can affect your sight if it's not treated asap.

MumUndone · 22/03/2021 21:37
@EyeballWHAAAAAAT that looks very sore. Not meaning to scare you but did A&E check for parasites in the eye... these can only be seen with specific medical / optical equipment. Do you ever rinse your eyes out with tap water or while in the shower as this is when parasites can get in. If you wear contact lenses they should never be worn while swimming or showering as parasites can get trapped behind the eye and therefore burrow into the eye ball and will leave a crater type hole. It's treated with antibiotic eye drops.
What? Parasites get in your eyes from tap water?? Surely lots of people get water in their eyes when I'm the shower, bath etc? Not sure I believe this.

BehindMyEyes · 22/03/2021 21:40

Did you just have a Covid vaccine ?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 22/03/2021 21:40

Argh OP you poor thing! Please go to A&E tonight, not worth the risk of waiting when it comes to eyesight.

abricotine · 22/03/2021 21:40

You really need an exam with a slit lamp. Could be anything, hopefully just a blood vessel burst. Please go to eye clinic!

FloraFauna27 · 22/03/2021 21:44

That picture made me make an involuntary ‘ugnghhhh’ noise. You poor thing.

Mistymountain · 22/03/2021 21:44

Somebody has already mentioned cold sores. My husband had a herpes infection of the eye, which was very painful and took months to diagnose. It might be worth pursuing that possibility?

Kittykat93 · 22/03/2021 21:46

Holy shite, looks like something from a horror film. Hope you're okay

Helspopje · 22/03/2021 21:47

Painful red eye = eye casualty

Kitkatchunkyplease · 22/03/2021 21:49

@MumUndone parasites are true, and disgusting, and that's why you should not wear your contacts in the shower or bath etc.

Holothane · 22/03/2021 21:50

I don’t like the look or sound of this, I hope your at a and e now you won’t be urged away, good luck.

bloomingheather · 22/03/2021 21:51

I've had a corneal ulcer before OP (also a contact lens wearer) and it was not pleasant. I can't remember what my eye looked like cause it was almost 20 years ago now and I also couldn't really see it because my eyelid closed over but it was very bloodshot. It caused a lot of pain. I went to A&E with what I thought was bad conjunctivitis and the opthalmologist actually admitted me for treatment. It usually needs intensive antibiotics and can damage your vision if left untreated so a good idea to get seen again if you can.

Grenlei · 22/03/2021 21:56

@Kitkatchunkyplease completely agree. Not wearing contacts in the shower etc is sooo important.

An ex of mine did this all the time, didn't know the risks, and ended up with acanthamoeba keratitis (which I may have spelt incorrectly!). Immensely painful, and he was left permanently blind in one eye.

I always urge anyone who wears lenses to be really careful - no showering, swimming etc just not worth the risk.

Cannotgarden · 22/03/2021 21:58

Get a covid test. I had this and it was covid, which is essentially a virus that attacks blood vessels.

RabbityMcRabbit · 22/03/2021 21:58

If you're in a lot of pain and are very light-sensitive, it could be either iritis or scleritis. Go to A and E

RizzleRazzle · 22/03/2021 22:01

@Cannotgarden

Get a covid test. I had this and it was covid, which is essentially a virus that attacks blood vessels.
If OP had the exact same thing happen 6 years ago then I doubt it's Covid
EyeballWHAAAAAAT · 22/03/2021 22:03

Not light sensitive.

It isn't a corneal ulcer because my cornea is in tact and painless.

However, I'm about to go to bed and took one last pic (I've had a patch on otherwise because it helps a LOT with the pain) I feel like I can maybe see a ulcer?

I'm going to the eye hospital tomorrow. That's for sure.

That is not episcleritis. I have episcleritis and it looks like mild pink eye. That is not mild anything.

As for the parasite- I’m not saying it’s what the OP has, but a friend of mine had it. It was so rare it took 3 hospitals to diagnose her. She almost lost her eye because they couldn’t get on top of the infection for ages. She had to do medicated eye drops every half an hour for ages, it was mental.

AnaisNun · 22/03/2021 22:05

Oh my god OP just go to a hospital again!!! That’s not right at all. At. All.

AnyFucker · 22/03/2021 22:06

Please stop fannying around on here and get seen by a medical professional Shock

Pinksatin · 22/03/2021 22:06

Why aren’t you going now!!!!!!!!! What the hell?????

AnaisNun · 22/03/2021 22:07

Can you imagine being this nonchalant about your eyeball looking like you’re an extra from the Vampire Diaries?!

“I’m going to sleep” Shock

I admire your chill, OP, but do go to a hospital love.

EyeballWHAAAAAAT · 22/03/2021 22:09

Because I DID see a medical professional.

I have. They said it could wait until the morning until it got worse.

It has changed, and bled out but it hasn't got worse. If anything, after the patch, the pain has subsided.

I'm 'fancying around on here' to see if anyone else has experienced this.
