To be crying over the Caroline Flack programme?

I don't really cry at TV or movies usually but this really hit me.
I finished watching the programme feeling somewhat 'depressed'.
I felt it was very relatable.
I've had times of depression and horrible thoughts and seeing her mum and friends talk about her made me realise how loved most people don't even realise they are.

It just hit me after the documentary how quickly people can be taken away and how we just never see them again.

I don't know, it's just made me really really sad Confused

And I also think another thing that hit me was how much the media and "cancel culture" can really ruin a life

Over-reaction in my opinion.

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 15:52

@theageof overreaction to relate to depression and mental illness?

justanotherneighinparadise · 19/03/2021 15:53

I found it rather triggering. I wondered if others might have also found it difficult.

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 15:54

@justanotherneighinparadise me too; extremely triggering actually; I still suffer from depression and sometimes have horrible thoughts (but not as regularly these days) and it just hit me like a ton

I watched it last night and her mum and sister made it very clear that she had struggled with self esteem, negative thoughts and depression since childhood.
She was a very emotionally vulnerable person and they described her difficulty with relationships resulting in self harm throughout her life.
Borderline personality disorder?
It’s a tragic case and she just wasn’t able to handle the trash the tabloids wrote about her.
Her Mum, sister and friends knew her inside out and loved her her for the good times and bad. I feel very very sorry for everyone involved.

'watched it last night and her mum and sister made it very clear that she had struggled with self esteem, negative thoughts and depression since childhood.'

Yes it was really sad, didn't her ds say Caroline had talked about suicide a lot and they'd almost been expecting it their whole lives.

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 16:01

@Whenthesunshines yes I wonder if she ever got a diagnosis; either way it was a tough watch Sad

What channel is it on?

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 16:02

@GetOffYourHighHorse yes i think she said she had an obsession with suicide

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 16:02

QuinoaAvo · 19/03/2021 16:04

What is cancel culture?

Vv sad, a shame she didn't hold on. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temorary problem.

Franch2892 · 19/03/2021 16:06

@QuinoaAvo it's when someone says or does something that is considered wrong and the whole media jump on them, get fired from their job etc. (Mostly celebs of course)

Definitely! I think he ex has a new girlfriend now; shame she couldnt see there wpuld be life after it

OP I cried too. Just goes to show we don't have a clue what some people are dealing with on the inside. I feel so sorry for her and her loved ones.

Flowers24 · 19/03/2021 16:12

Hi Id like to see this, did you say ITV?

CaveMum · 19/03/2021 16:13

@jakeyboy1

What channel is it on?
It was on Channel 4 a few nights ago so will be up on All4 for catch up.
Songsofexperience · 19/03/2021 16:25

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temorary problem.

Clinical depression isn't a temporary problem though... and suicide isn't a solution.

FrippEnos · 19/03/2021 16:26

A program that is trying to make a saint out of a sinner.

Not very palatable at all.

Foldinthecheese · 19/03/2021 16:32

I didn’t think it tried to make a saint of her at all. I thought her friends and family were very frank about her difficulties and challenges. I thought they presented a nuanced view of her: that she was talented, engaging and lit up a room, but that she also catastrophised, couldn’t manage her emotions and relied on others for approval.

FrippEnos · 19/03/2021 16:34

Foldinthecheese

yet it did very little to address the DV charges.

Igotjelly · 19/03/2021 16:35

I thought it was fascinating and very relatable. At no point did they make out she was perfect, in fact her DM even said her own actions could be blamed for what happened to her, but she was clearly very loved. I do wonder if there was some sort of underlying potentially undiagnosed condition, especially with her family talking about extreme highs and lows.

Captnip500 · 19/03/2021 16:36

I don’t know if you saw the programme, FrippEnos, but it really wasn’t like that at all. It was clear that she was a very vulnerable and troubled person, probably with an undiagnosed mental health condition. The incidents that happened with her ex boyfriend, while terrible, weren’t what the media made them out to be either.

I found it very sad myself and it highlighted that the media in this country is just brutal. The police also have a bit to answer for, I am
not sure what the purpose of charging her with assault when the victim was a dead against it and the perpetrator was clearly going through a mental health crisis themselves at the time was. Other then to make an example of her in the news.

Foldinthecheese · 19/03/2021 16:37

What more should they have done? They showed footage of her entering and leaving the court, they talked about the charges, they talked about the cut on the boyfriend’s head. I didn’t think there were any excuses provided for her actions.

Igotjelly · 19/03/2021 16:39

Who ever leaked the pictures of the bloodstained bed has a lot to answer for.

Foldinthecheese · 19/03/2021 16:40

I don’t know what happened that night. I’m not excusing anyone for any kind of domestic violence. I do wonder how the press got hold of the photographs of the bloody bed and if the gleeful coverage of her career going down the shitter was all that necessary. I don’t think she was driven to suicide by one thing. She clearly had some serious mental health issues and had done for some time. However, I do think the press coverage of the event was appalling and very unhelpful. More and more I’m wondering how much of what is covered by the press in this country is really newsworthy.
