My children are off school with very bad colds (not covid!)
I want to see my friend at her house tonight we had this arranged however she's backed out last second saying that it's not a good idea to meet while my DC are poorly as she can't risk being unwell at the moment which has upset me as it's not covid and I'm not unwell.
Whose being unreasonable?

OP posts:

OP, it's your friend who is being unreasonable. Bloody Covid and its cheerleaders. There are all kinds of things still doing the rounds, and children need to build up immunity, or far worse things than Covid will emerge.

Ggeemerc · 17/03/2021 20:19

Yep you

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2021 20:24

Is this a wind up?

Maryann1975 · 17/03/2021 20:28

FFS. I have no idea how so many people Know that their symptoms are not COVID without a test. First week back to school, friends dd was sent home from school with a sore throat, friend admitted she knew child had sore throat in the morning, but dosed her up and sent her in anyway. Friend furious, but took her for a test, which ‘of course’ was negative. Good job really, or the whole class would have been in isolation for 10 days After only two days back at school!
OP, don’t be so bloody selfish! Cold symptoms are also COVID symptoms, so don’t be cross with your friend for wanting to protect themselves.

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/03/2021 20:28

You.

Tartyflette · 17/03/2021 20:32

Ok, even if (!) there was no pandemic i still wouldn't want to meet up with someone who had a bad cold or whose kids did.
I'm otherwise healthy but a bad cold can knock me out for a week, and I'm often left with a hacking cough that can linger for a further couple of weeks.
So no thanks. YAB most U. .

Unless they've been tested you can't know it's not covid presenting like a cold in your children.
Have a word with yourself.

BobbidyBob · 17/03/2021 20:39

YABU and idiotic. And that’s me being very very polite in comparison to what I’m thinking.

Even in your update you’re making excuses. Just in case you need it spelled out

  1. if they’ve not been tested it could be Covid
  2. even if it’s not, if your friend’s family catches it then they can’t go to work/school/supermarket/wherever because most people are not idiotic and realise they can’t wander round with cold symptoms during a pandemic
partyatthepalace · 17/03/2021 20:39

You are

ssd · 17/03/2021 20:41

This is a wind up.

Dothepropeller21 · 17/03/2021 20:43

My bad cold was actually covid. Only got tested as my son started coughing. YABVU

@TheBigBazookasOfBrendaBurgess

I doubt her friend particularly thinks it’s Covid, she just doesn’t want a bad cold - because she has to, like, go to work? And doesn’t want her kids home sick? Not hanging out with people with colds is normal, sensible behaviour. Jesus.

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 17/03/2021 20:45

You cannot be serious!

ItsMarch · 17/03/2021 20:45

Ha ha ha ha ha.
Ah thanks for the laugh OP. I needed that tonight.

diddl · 17/03/2021 20:46

@pictish

It wouldn’t occur to me to cancel on my friend because their kid had a cold. No one has ever cancelled on me because my kid had a cold. Does this actually happen?
It's not a given that Op would get the cold/pass it on, but maybe a risk not everyone would take-even before covid.

Now I think people are more wary of "just a cold"

Chloemol · 17/03/2021 20:47

You

Twickerhun · 17/03/2021 20:51

Sooooo unreasonable. On more than one level

Borderterrierpuppy · 17/03/2021 20:54

Op I seriously hope you are joking.
Covid 19 has many many symptoms and many people present with cold symptoms.
Please isolate the whole household and get tested.

JustDespair · 17/03/2021 20:54

You would be unreasonable even before covid. No one wants a fecking cold when they have shit to be getting on with. Insanity.

Candyfloss99 · 17/03/2021 20:55

You are of course. Its not only covid you can pass on, you can pass on any virus including the common cold. Why would anyone willingly catch the cold???

vixeyann · 17/03/2021 21:01

100% you. This is my absolute pet hate - people being ill and passing it onto others for no reason.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 17/03/2021 21:03

It's a complete mystery to me how COVID has managed to spread so efficiently. Hmm

Actually, it used to really get on my nerves pre-COVID when people would turn up at the house with a stinking cold. Work, I could just about understand and tolerate. But swing by for a cuppa when you're bunged up to fuck? Keep it to yourself!

mummywithhermini · 17/03/2021 21:12

Yabu of course.

I can't even accept it for work. One guy comes in, often loudly telling people how shit he feels and how he shouldn't even be there but he's got good work ethics so here he is! Then gives it to two others that end up feeling really rotten and having to stay home. The first guy should have just stayed home.

I might just be irritated by that as my asthmatic DH always gets it real bad in his chest and feels like rubbish for a couple of weeks.
