My children are off school with very bad colds (not covid!)
I want to see my friend at her house tonight we had this arranged however she's backed out last second saying that it's not a good idea to meet while my DC are poorly as she can't risk being unwell at the moment which has upset me as it's not covid and I'm not unwell.
Whose being unreasonable?

You don’t know it’s not Covid because you haven’t had your kids tested.
You shouldn’t be going round to other houses because lockdown.
You are being completely unreasonable.

toocold54 · 17/03/2021 19:23

I think OP meant to say that it’s not Covid as they’ve been tested - obviously no one knows if they’ve got Covid or not without a test regardless of symptoms.

Quartz2208 · 17/03/2021 19:23

You need to test.

But even if negative she is right. DS had COVID symptoms in September the week before we were due to visit friends for the day. He was negative but we still didnt visit because it wasnt fair to spread his non covid to those who would then need to test and self isolate. My best friends partner was a covid tester so if ill with symptoms would need to take time off unpaid before being cleared

SpeakingFranglais · 17/03/2021 19:23

Eh? Can we even visit friends, cold aside?

WaggishDancer · 17/03/2021 19:24

The OP says No not been Covid tested.
SpeakingFranglais · 17/03/2021 19:25

Oh, and I had a sniffly nose and slight tickling cough with Covid, only tested because DH lost his sense of taste and smell.

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 17/03/2021 19:25

Op what would happen if you passed on this 'bad cold' to someone frail, or whose immune system is already compromised?

ReginaPhalangee · 17/03/2021 19:26

Let me guess. They're still in school. Because it's 'just a bad cold'.

On behalf of school staff, if this is the case, YAMDBU

PlanetPuddle · 17/03/2021 19:26

You are

TrialOfStyle · 17/03/2021 19:27

I agree YABU at the moment (especially as you say they haven’t been tested) but I do think some posters are being hysterical about a cold here when you (I think) don’t even seem to have it. If you really never saw friends, went to work or in any way interacted with people when your children have a cold, many of us with small, nursery age children would never be able to the leave the house.

Flipflopfoodle · 17/03/2021 19:28

No kids are off school but as it's 'not covid' (op can tell without a test), op obviously can carry her cold to her friends just so she doesn't miss out on some socialising. I'm not sure I can roll my eyes hard enough.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 17/03/2021 19:28

If your kids are poorly enough to be off school sick then why in God's name would you think it would be a good idea to drag them to your friend's house?

Unless you were planning on leaving your kids at home whilst you galavant over there taking your germs with you.

Either way , YABU. I think you even know you are!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 17/03/2021 19:29

YABU. No explanation needed.

Rainbows89 · 17/03/2021 19:29

YABSOooooooU!!!

TheBigBaboon · 17/03/2021 19:31

Get tested. You have no idea if it's a cold or Covid.

Oh and.. YABVVU.

PlanetPuddle · 17/03/2021 19:31

It's been almost a year of Covid. I'm shocked

Parkerwhereareyou · 17/03/2021 19:31

You are

RunHobbitRun · 17/03/2021 19:32

Even pre-covid I wouldn't inflict known cold like germs on others unnecessarily. Now I'm even more vigilant at the first signs of a cold. You have no idea what impact catching a "simple cold" can have on some people.

You made a poor judgement call.

Dobbyismyfavourite · 17/03/2021 19:32

You.

CrocodilesCry · 17/03/2021 19:32

Why would you even be going round her house? It's not allowed!
You should be getting them tested, I'm surprised the school didn't tell you to when you called to say they would be off.

Planty13 · 17/03/2021 19:33

You are. If they get ill and have symptoms they will have to test and isolate, regardless of you telling them it’s a cold.

Bluntpencil · 17/03/2021 19:34

YABU

Chooseausernamenow · 17/03/2021 19:34

You’re being unreasonable. How do you know the children don’t have Covid.

1Morewineplease · 17/03/2021 19:36

Covid or not, do you not understand how germs are spread? You may not be showing any symptoms ( similar to Covid!) but you would certainly be spreading them.

Notquitesureaboutthis · 17/03/2021 19:36

Covid or not, keep your germs at home!
