No side effects with Astra Zeneca!

Had AZ at the weekend. Was told side effects are very common!

Also I know a quite a few people who have had it and the vast majority have had side effects. Some feeling very ill.

I’ve not had a single side effect. I’m grateful I’m not feeling poorly but worry it’s not been as effective as it should be.

Literally everyone else I know who’s had it has had side effects.

Anyone else not had any side effects at all?

I had zero side effects and I’ve definitely never had Covid before as took part in a trial where I had to take regular antibody tests.

I’m sure I read that only 30% of people display mild side effects following the AZ vaccine, and only about 2% display more severe side effects. That leaves 68% who display no side effects at all...

FangsForTheMemory · 04/03/2021 15:08

I'm looking forward to getting my jab so much I don't care which vaccine they give me and I won't care about side-effects. If I have them, I'll consider them a bad of honour.

The flu jab I had last year made my arm hurt for a fortnight though.

wonkylegs · 04/03/2021 15:16

Feeling a bit crap for a bit afterwards doesn't put me off the second jab but is good to know so I can plan to do less the following day next time. My first jab yesterday was a (welcome) surprise at my hospital appointment for something else and as such I have had a fairly full on day today booked up in advance which I've struggled with a bit.

JemimaMuddledUp · 04/03/2021 15:38

I had the AZ vaccine and had to take a week off work as I felt so ill afterwards. Fine now though (3 weeks later).

My mum and inlaws all had the AZ vaccine around the same time as me and didn't have any side effects.

I probably wouldn't read too much into it tbh, some people do and some people don't.

ChampionOfTheSun · 04/03/2021 15:38

I had mine at 11am last Friday, was completely fine until about 11pm when I had a few hours of chills/shakes, then was quite tired for a few hours, but it lasted less than 12hrs and I was fine. I usually get quite poorly after my flu jab so was expecting worse having heard lots of people say they'd been ill after AZ.

whyayepetal · 04/03/2021 15:46

Stratfordplace sorry to hear that. Have you contacted your GP? I was advised to do that or call 111 if symptoms persisted for more than a few days. Hope everything settles down for you soon.

BurtonHouse · 04/03/2021 16:00

Had mine on Friday, arm felt a bit bruised on Monday morning, but ok by the evening
That was it.

Woodandsky · 04/03/2021 16:01

Just got back from having mine and it was the AZ so I’ll report back tomorrow. Feel fine now.

CaptainVanesHair · 04/03/2021 16:07

My mum and her twin had AZ and both reacted really badly. One of them had an arm swelling the size of an egg for three weeks and was bed bound for a week, and the other couldn’t feel her hand for a few days afterwards.

But my dad and brother have both had it with no side effects.

Me and my mum react to the same things usually, so I am a bit anxious but know it’s short term pain and all that.

crowsfeet57 · 04/03/2021 16:11

I had it the weekend and had no side effects either!

Rillington · 04/03/2021 16:16

Yes same here.

ErickBroch · 04/03/2021 16:23

I am a vaccinator. I had side effects and goodness they wiped me out! Had it at 9am, worked until 2. By 3pm I was in bed a shivering mess with two duvets and a hot water bottle on. Then I had the opposite and was sweating my bum off. Slept fine and a bit sore the next day and all gone by 3pm. Still, 10/10 would recommend over COVID!

caringcarer · 04/03/2021 16:26

I just felt s bit tired, not unwell. Just went to bed at 9.30pm.

caringcarer · 04/03/2021 16:28

DH had Pfizer and just got a mild headache.

Peridot1 · 04/03/2021 19:55

Spoke too soon earlier. Had it this morning. Felt ok until mid afternoon. Then felt a bit queasy and shaking and couldn’t get warm. Took paracetamol and went to bed for a couple of hours. Got up and felt ok-ish but not great. Hung some washing up and my arms felt like lead weights. Had dinner and am now back in bed. Hoping a good nights sleep will help.

Had a bit of a giggle at the place I went to this morning for the jab. Was sitting waiting in the car before going in a a drag Queen emerged dressed head to toe in bright pink. Hot pink wig, full make up, pink fur jacket and pink sequinned full length dress and heels. I felt quite underdressed.!

FAD2016 · 04/03/2021 20:00

Was fine until a full 24hrs had passed and then started to feel shivery and achy. Felt pretty crap through the night, slept badly. The next day started off a bit rough but felt better as the day wore on. Hoping the worst is over

MrsExpo · 04/03/2021 20:01

Had my AZ vac two weeks ago. Absolutely no side effects at all. No sore arm, no flu like symptoms .... nothing. I’m fine. DH had his a few days before me and he was ok apart from a slight headache a few hours afterwards. A paracetamol sorted it and then he was fine. Better than having Covid I’d say.

Ileflottante · 04/03/2021 20:04

Don’t you worry if you had nothing you’re the control group? Grin

HughGrantsHair · 04/03/2021 20:08

I had AZ one day last week. Had it at 2:30pm. Felt ok that day. Woke up next morning with a sore arm. Then slept on and off for nearly 2 days with an awful headache and aching joints.

Branleuse · 04/03/2021 20:10

My side effects were so mild that would have been easily missed. I just felt slightly achy next day.
My mum had no side effects

Longdistance · 04/03/2021 20:11

You were lucky. My colleague has had the AZ vaccine and it knocked her out for a few days.
My dm who’s 80 with varied conditions such as cancer and heart problems didn’t have any problems.
It’s random.

CeibaTree · 04/03/2021 20:12

I had no side effects apart from a slightly sore upper arm for a few days. I think people who have side effects are more likely to talk/write about them than those who don't, as it's not really noteworthy to say you didn't get any. So it probably seems like more people get side effects than actually do.

Pericombobulations · 04/03/2021 20:14

I had mine this afternoon so waiting to see what side effects if any I develop. Have taken a preventative painkiller. However flu like side effects are similar to my normal fortnightly medication, so hope I dont suffer much worse!

Did go expecting to be given Pfizer but got there to be told its AZ. Wasnt going to be picky as any is better than risking the worse Covid can throw at me (whilst all the people I know who have had it are alive, I would still prefer not to risk it given the choice)

Catra · 04/03/2021 20:26

I didn't have any side effects from AZ whatsoever either unless you count the massive blister I got on the ball of my foot after walking 6 miles to and from the vaccination centre.

My 75-year-old dad had no side effects either. However my mum and my DH both felt so rough and achy they spent the following day in bed (not together, I hasten to add!)

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 04/03/2021 20:29

DH early 40s was in bed for 48 hours. Severe flu like symptoms. Rarely ever unwell and even when he is he toughs it out but the AZ vaccine floored him.
