No side effects with Astra Zeneca!

Had AZ at the weekend. Was told side effects are very common!

Also I know a quite a few people who have had it and the vast majority have had side effects. Some feeling very ill.

I’ve not had a single side effect. I’m grateful I’m not feeling poorly but worry it’s not been as effective as it should be.

Literally everyone else I know who’s had it has had side effects.

Anyone else not had any side effects at all?

@StepOutOfLine

Half the staff in my school. We had it yesterday, half are fine, about 20 are off sick. I'm at work but feel like you do the day before flu. Just sort of cold and achey.
That’s pretty much how I felt, plus my arm was red/swollen for about four days. All fine now though.
Puddstalk · 04/03/2021 13:53

I had AZ Tuesday (and very grateful and happy to receive it) but I felt shocking - jab at 1.15 - tired and headachy by evening - went to bed early - yesterday I was cold and shivery - headache - aching arm and exhausted - took some paracetamol had another early night - slight headache today but much better - totally worth it!

QueenOfLabradors · 04/03/2021 13:55

DP and one of his oldest friends found each other in the queue for theirs, and both had a sore arm and felt like they were coming down with 'flu the next day - but both were fine again by the evening. I got this from Mrs Friend, we ran into each other out walking the dogs the day after. Both early sixties.

Glitteryone · 04/03/2021 13:56

I had AZ last week and suffered the worst 2 days of my life. I couldn’t get out of bed!

I really hope the second dose isn’t as bad.

In contrast a lot of my family (older and not as healthy as me) had the same vaccine with no symptoms!

Inpersuitofhappiness · 04/03/2021 13:57

I know 5 people who had AZ vaccine, 4 had nothing but a sore arm, 5th- the youngest of the bunch was quite ill for 24 hours then back to normal.

I think its quite common to not have any symptoms at all from it.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/03/2021 13:57

niece had AZ and felt a little bit achy/fluey, had a temperature
SIL had Pfizer and was floored with flu symptoms, fever and headaches for 24 hours
other SIL had Pfizer with no side effects at all

CheltenhamLady · 04/03/2021 13:59

I had absolutely no symptoms either, but my DH who had it at the same time as I did, felt really ill for 48 hours.

Coulddowithanap · 04/03/2021 14:01

I had it a few weeks ago and didn't get side effects. DH felt a bit unwell.

Picklypickles · 04/03/2021 14:04

My dad had his last week and has been fine, no side effects at all. My mum and stepdad had theirs and were both feeling really poorly for a few days. I had mine yesterday morning, started feeling really tired early evening and a bit cold and shivery so went to bed early, arm is also quite sore. I felt a bit sick when I woke up and had a headache but I've had a couple of paracetamol and a nice soak in the bath and apart from my achey arm I feel alright now!

Peridot1 · 04/03/2021 14:06

I had it this morning. Feel ok so far.

VinylDetective · 04/03/2021 14:07

I felt rubbish the day after mine. It was a very small price to pay.

cortex10 · 04/03/2021 14:11

I had AZ on Saturday and felt unwell on Sunday afternoon (went to bed early with chills/ temperature and headache) but fine by Monday morning apart from a sore arm. A younger colleague (who's never ill) had the AZ vaccine on Sunday and was ill all day on Monday and still looks like 'death warmed up' on zoom calls today.

Holyforkingshirtball · 04/03/2021 14:13

I had AZ on Tuesday, I had a bit of a headache yesterday and felt a bit bleugh - kind of like i was coming down with something. I'm fine today, not even a sore arm.

My SIL had hers on Saturday and had a raging temp and felt awful for 3 days.

I think that it is just the luck of the draw, but whether or not I got side-effects I was just really happy to have the vaccination!

StormyInTheNorth · 04/03/2021 14:14

Had a sore arm, felt like I had a hangover the next day. DH is very jealous of my vaccinated state and appears to have got all the symptoms as well as moodiness and rudeness. He declared last night that I must have given him covid from the vaccine. Ffs.

Dee2997 · 04/03/2021 14:14

@Woodandsky

I have mine this afternoon, am so excited as I didn't know if I was in group 6 or not (asthma). Everyone is telling me I will feel ill tomorrow so I'll be very happy if not.
Fingers crossed you’ll be fine. Everyone seems to be so differently affected!

My dh had none.

I had flu-ey shivers and shakes the same night, but fine again by morning.

takingmytimeonmyride · 04/03/2021 14:20

My DS had it, had chills and body aches and loss of appetite for a couple of days.

I had it on Tuesday. Had a headache and nausea, and my arm feels bruised, but so far that's it. Paracetamol sorts it out though, so it's not horrendous.

CustardySergeant · 04/03/2021 14:23

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine about 9.40 am last Sunday. I have had zero side-effects until this morning when my arm is slightly tender around the site of the injection. It's (so far) not as as bad as after my recent flu injection when I had a very stiff and painful arm.

"I’ve not had a single side effect. I’m grateful I’m not feeling poorly but worry it’s not been as effective as it should be."
I'm an extreme pessimist and have had the same thoughts. You keep hearing "side-effects are good, they show your immune system is working" etc. Also, the doctor who gave me the vaccine said that he had given the vaccine to a friend of his who had no side-effects at all and was even suspicious as to whether he had actually given her the vaccine at all!

Also, I was a little concerned when a woman on the Nextdoor website posted to say that she had the AstraZeneca jab 5 weeks ago and now she is in hospital with Covid-19. Of course I am well aware that vaccination does not = immunity, but did think that if you've had the vaccine and go on to get Covid you aren't going to be seriously ill (i.e. needing hospitalisation). Thinking about it a bit more, I realised that this was just my own ignorance and false assumptions regarding the vast variability in reactions from person to person, both in re. vaccine and also infections and diseases.
All we can do is get the vaccine, continue being super-careful in avoiding getting infected and hope for the best. The more people that do that, the sooner the situation will improve although I think Covid-19 will be with us for ever, in all its mutations, just as the common cold and influenza will never go away completely. Mutating viruses tend to get less lethal with time, but some people will still become seriously ill and some people will die if they do get it. Vigilance will always be necessary.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 04/03/2021 14:27

There's some evidence for Pfizer that people who have previously had Covid are more likely to report side effects, as there is for those who are on their second vaccination.

The problem is where people go on that 'ooh, good luck, you'll feel awful afterwards' and put people off or use it as an excuse for not getting further vaccinations - really, if they did really feel that bad after just a vaccine, how ill do they think the actual full blown infection would make them feel?

Sometimes I have a sore arm for a couple of days from a vaccine (I did from the Swine Flu one - but I'd been really, really unwell with the flu a couple of months previously - usually, I don't, perhaps because I'm practically banging on the pharmacy door come the first week of September, so I'm vaccinated before the virus gets anywhere near me.

It's handy for knowing it's doing something, tbh, but my feeling tired enough to need an afternoon nap (for the first time since I was last pregnant), 12 days after my first vaccination isn't enough for me to say 'oh, yes, I've had side effects too'.

Diesse · 04/03/2021 14:31

I had AZ, deffo felt under the weather and very fatigued. My husband sailed through it, not a whisper of a side effect.

Dee2997 · 04/03/2021 14:32

@CustardySergeant thank you. A similar time to what I had mine and my arm and felt a little more tender today than it has been since Sunday too! Nothing bad just have felt it a bit more than before today and yes I totally agree with what you’re saying!

You were lucky. I fell asleep for 4 hours and found it really difficult to wake up.

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/03/2021 14:35

My in-laws- no side effects for them. A friend and his mum also had it (he is her carer). She had no side effects , he had a slightly raised temperature overnight.

AnnPerkins · 04/03/2021 14:39

I had achey legs and shivering the night I had the AZ. Felt fine by morning but then I went out for a long run and felt rough afterwards, knackered, achey, shivering and headache. That lasted a couple of days and paracetamol helped a lot. I think the run was a mistake.

My DSis had had both doses of the AZ and no side effects whatsoever.

wonkylegs · 04/03/2021 14:59

I had mine yesterday, I was knackered last night and feel absolutely freezing today (sitting with a hot water bottle ) but otherwise ok not even a sore arm which is good because I also had a blood test yesterday which bruised terribly on the other arm. I was a bit apprehensive as I'm immunosuppressed which can sometimes cause problems.
