To think that vaccination cards are very unfair.

I can see why they are needed but I think it's very unfair how they are going to be used. I am 39 and have no health issues. I am not sure when I will get the vaccination as I ve read they haven't even decided groups beyond group 9. So, that means it could be ages before I get any normality back in my life like going to restaurants, pubs, concerts and holidays. I am unsure if I should book a holiday in August as I don't know if I will be vaccinated by then.

I am feel quite cross about this and my parents and friends parents (70+) are booking holidays and cruises etc and will get their lives back so much quicker than I will. Yet IMO my age group and below are the ones that have probably made the greatest sacrifices, juggling home schooling, work and studying, financial worries. Everyone I know in the 60+ category have spent their days gardening, knitting and being bored but with little stress and sacrifice, yet they will be the first to get their lives back.

Not only it is likely my age group and below will feel the lasting effects most from this and will likely pay the most for this with tax increases etc, we will be the last to get the benefits of coming out of lockdown. I don't think they should insist on vaccination cards until everyone is vaccinated.

I agree that the younger and fitter have given up a lot, mostly in the name of the older and less fit. But it is what it is, as a community we should do what we need to protect others even though its crap

yesyoudoknowme · 23/02/2021 18:25

Who is demanding vaccination cards? Oh and I am over 60 and have worked all through this pandemic so wind your neck in. Knitting and and gardening? Hmm

SoupDragon · 23/02/2021 18:26

Seriously?

Smacks of sour grapes TBH.

BlueTimes · 23/02/2021 18:26

If we come out of lockdown at the end of June and everyone has the first vaccine by the end of July, the second vaccine will by the end of October at the latest. Even allowing additional time for full immunity to build up, you really are talking about a few months difference between most of those who are vaccinated and everyone else.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s really not something to be angry about.

MyLittleOrangutan · 23/02/2021 18:28

Vaccination certificates for foreign travel is fine but absolutely not for leisure things in our own country. Ridiculous idea. I dont even see how pubs and restaurants would support the idea of refusing half the population entry.

notanothertakeaway · 23/02/2021 18:29

YABU. The elderly have been at greatest risk. And they have fewer years ahead of them. You are 39. If you live to, say, 80, you have another 41 years to go on holiday etc

And yes, your taxes will pay for this, but how would forcing the over 60's to stay at home help with that?

This! The over 60’s in my family (mainly in laws) have worked bleddy hard throughout. They haven’t been knitting and gardening.
StarlitTrees · 23/02/2021 18:30

Wow.....
Im a nurse and work with doctors and nurses in their 60s and 70s, certainly not sitting knitting all day Hmm

We are on track for all adults to be vaccinated by the end of July.
We are working our fingers to the bone to make sure this happens.
We have all felt the strain this last year mentally and physically, but I'd say saving lives is taking priority over your holiday!

thetemptationofchocolate · 23/02/2021 18:30

I am older and have spent much of this pandemic being kept apart from my terminally ill mother.
I know people go on about transphobia on MN but really the ageism here is as shocking.

As their older they've also got a lot less time to make up for a lost year!

I'm not sure why you think they shouldn't be booking cruises and holidays?

Should they wait for you to be vaccinated.

Also the government has said every adult to have their first vaccination by end of July, so presuming you're an adult even though you're acting like a petulant child, you'll be vaccinated then.

How shameful that you want our societies most vulnerable to wait for their vaccine because they just knit and garden. So you can do what?

C231009 · 23/02/2021 18:32

we’ve given up a lot to protect the vulnerable. My granny is late 70’s and had it. She’s not planning any holidays. She just wants to see family again in the summer after becoming a widow last year and grieving alone! The elderly are the ones who are most likely to become seriously. The vaccines are there to protect people but also to protect the nhs too avoiding people becoming very ill in icu and hopefully we will see the effects of this soon!

It’s said that all adults could be vaccinated by July (hopefully anyway) and I’m sure you can hold off a little longer for a holiday!! YABU.

TroysMammy · 23/02/2021 18:32

Vaccination doesn't mean you can't catch Covid so a vaccination card is pointless. How many people carry around their vaccination cards they had as babies to prove they are immune from certain illnesses like whooping cough and diptheria?

People are under the impression that once they have the jab they are immune and can carry on life pre 2020. I had my 2nd jab today and I'm not under any illusion that I can fling my mask off and hug people.

Don't think they will be getting their lives back any time soon. I reckon there will be restrictions for a good while yet.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 23/02/2021 18:32

Vaccination cards? Have I missed an update since last night?

KarensChoppyBob · 23/02/2021 18:32

My dad (in his 60s) actually asked me about this today. It hadn't occurred to me to be bothered.

There are far more groups of people that should have it first IMO.

poppycat10 · 23/02/2021 18:33

I agree. But given I've managed this long without pubs and/or non-essential retail I will just give them a miss if they insist.

Why should people have to go out and buy a smartphone to support the covid app?

BigWoollyJumpers · 23/02/2021 18:33

The annoying bit is that yes, I and DH may well be vaccinated by the summer, but our teen daughters won't. So we may not be able to go on holiday anyway. I wonder how many families are booking international holidays, and not worrying about whether they will be able to go as a family?

Shoxfordian · 23/02/2021 18:33

It only potentially applies to international travel op. Nothing to say you can’t go to the pub

Blockedoff · 23/02/2021 18:34

Like who @KarensChoppyBob

StarlitTrees · 23/02/2021 18:34

I can't believe someone who is 39 thinks people who are 60+ have no function in society.....
This is the sort of perspective a child has when they see people middle aged and up are ancient. Shame on you.

Youseethethingis · 23/02/2021 18:35

Huge generalisation which I’m not a fan of, but I do think the “COVID passport” idea is hugely unfair and divisive but... Younger generation:

  • least likely become seriously ill or die of COVID
  • most likely to have lost their jobs
  • most likely to have been sandwiched between WFH and home schooling the kids they apparently shouldn’t have had if they weren’t willing and able to home school them and simultaneously work a full time job
  • now last in the queue to get to the pub for a fucking drink

Minted.

studychick81 · 23/02/2021 18:35

@SoupDragon

Yes, probably is sour grapes. I have understood the need to lockdown and have done my not to help more vulnerable groups. However, now we are coming out of lockdown we are the last to get our lives back. Sorry, but it feels very unfair.

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age.

How shameful that you want our societies most vulnerable to wait for their vaccine because they just knit and garden. So you can do what They don't have to wait for a vaccine, the thread is about making younger people wait to do anything until they've been vaccinated.

And what about families with children, given children won't be given the vaccine for some time yet or at all?

KarensChoppyBob · 23/02/2021 18:35

Also lol @ gardening & knitting. You obviously haven't met my dad.

Ditto. Please can someone link to a reputable source?

Again, this is not what the thread is about. It is about making people carry vaccine passports around with them.
