To think that vaccination cards are very unfair.

I can see why they are needed but I think it's very unfair how they are going to be used. I am 39 and have no health issues. I am not sure when I will get the vaccination as I ve read they haven't even decided groups beyond group 9. So, that means it could be ages before I get any normality back in my life like going to restaurants, pubs, concerts and holidays. I am unsure if I should book a holiday in August as I don't know if I will be vaccinated by then.

I am feel quite cross about this and my parents and friends parents (70+) are booking holidays and cruises etc and will get their lives back so much quicker than I will. Yet IMO my age group and below are the ones that have probably made the greatest sacrifices, juggling home schooling, work and studying, financial worries. Everyone I know in the 60+ category have spent their days gardening, knitting and being bored but with little stress and sacrifice, yet they will be the first to get their lives back.

Not only it is likely my age group and below will feel the lasting effects most from this and will likely pay the most for this with tax increases etc, we will be the last to get the benefits of coming out of lockdown. I don't think they should insist on vaccination cards until everyone is vaccinated.

@studychick81 so you want the airlines that have suffered so much and the holiday industry to wait until you are vaccinated and ready to go on holiday? You don't expect them to try and recoup some money, get their staff back into paid employment, open up airports and all the jobs that brings.

Have you always been so absolutely selfish? No one can do it, if I can't.

Stamp your feet it's not fair!

I'm suffering so everyone should.

Give your head a wobble.

Sadsiblingatsea · 23/02/2021 18:50

I agree OP.
I also find this delirious hysteria promoting this new vaccine quite disturbing.

grapewine · 23/02/2021 18:50

Everyone I know in the 60+ category have spent their days gardening, knitting

My parents are mid-60s and have worked through it all, putting themselves at risk daily because they have bills to pay, and I don't have enough money to help, even though I would have loved to.

Have several seats.

OlympicProcrastinator · 23/02/2021 18:51

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age

You’re talking shite love.

SamanthaJayne4 · 23/02/2021 18:51

I am 68 and throughout all of the pandemic I have felt very sorry for young people with children. I think life, especially for mothers, has been quite grim (from what I read on MN) as the fathers seem to expect them to do everything. The only time I have "suffered" is at first when the shops ran short of essential items and then when my DH and I had covid. My children have been affected as in wfh and also changes at uni.So I do sympathise with OP. She, as well as all the other put upon mothers, deserves a break.

Blockedoff · 23/02/2021 18:52

@Sadsiblingatsea what do you mean by your post? What's that got to do with vaccination cards?

LemonSwan · 23/02/2021 18:52

FOJN
There not going to be able to increase taxes significantly. Any one with a student loan already pays 10% extra tax on top of basic so theres not much room for maneouver in this age group.

KG1000 · 23/02/2021 18:52

I think the BBC and social media are far more preoccupied about 'vaccination passports' than the government or business!

Every interview I hear, the BBC seem to be pleading for confirmation of such nonsense. Every minister or 'expert' explains the practical, medical and ethical challenges this approach would present. In fact, the CEO of Easyjet predicted that once the majority had been vaccinated, he could see neither vaccine passports, nor tests would be necessary for travel! As a pp pointed out, it is not in the interest of business to discriminate.

AlternativePerspective · 23/02/2021 18:52

Pmsl at most 60 year olds not working.

These threads really are started by the hard of thinking aren’t they?

Or maybe the OP has missed out on staying on her yacht in Monaco. She certainly doesn’t inhabit the kind of world that the majority of the rest of us do...

CharlotteRose90 · 23/02/2021 18:52

Vaccine cards for travel will be a thing I agree. I’ve already had the heads in my travel company. Although I agree it will be the older generation that get to book holidays. I’m fine with that as we have protected the elderly and vulnerable. They don’t have the years to waste like we do. I’m sure you can wait a year to go on holiday. It worries me about having to show it in cinemas, restaurants etc. I get why and I have been vaccinated but those that can’t for medical reasons what will they do? Can’t make them sit outside. It is going to be a crap time till things sort out.

gigity · 23/02/2021 18:52

The average age of retirement in the UK last year (2019) was 65.3 for men and 64.3 for women, according to a DWP annual report.

CherryRoulade · 23/02/2021 18:52

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age.

I'm thinking of our friends in the villages - a 60 year old consultant obstetrician, a 58 year old emergency department consultant, GPs who are 61 and 63 years old, a headteacher of 59 and a speech and language therapist who is 57. Add in the judge in his 60s, a property developer in his 60s to name but a few.

Chloemol · 23/02/2021 18:54

Boo hoo

FrickinA · 23/02/2021 18:54

‘My husband was given a card when he had his first jab. That's probably all you'll need.‘

Sorry to burst your bubble but the cards we give out with the date and the batch no written on, hand written, are for the patients use only. As a reminder. Most people will lose them or forget to bring them to the 2nd appt.
That’s why there’s an admin person there recording everything when you’re in the booth getting the vaccination, so that it’s properly recorded.
Anyone could get a bunch of cards made up and hand write details in them ...

Changemaname1 · 23/02/2021 18:54

Ok I was agreeing with you somewhat as am younger than you and am desperate to see family abroad

But over 60s say at home knitting and gardening 🤣🤣🤣 fuck off I bet most of them have been at work tbh

grapewine · 23/02/2021 18:54

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age.

Now I just think you're on a windup or exceptionally privileged.

studychick81 · 23/02/2021 18:55

@Biancadelrioisback

As far as I understand, the whole adult population is supposed to be vaccinated by July. Vaccine cards or passports will only come into play once everyone is vaccinated. I don't think they can realistically enforce them any other way for the exact reasons you've stated (ie a large proportion of the population wouldnt be able to do anything...)
I hope you're right. Otherwise it seems very unfair.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/02/2021 18:55

@studychick81 am 39 and have no health issues I have had my first vaccine but you can console yourself with the knowledge that, with exception of parks and woodland my dc , dh and I haven’t left the house for 11 months.

blue25 · 23/02/2021 18:56

You sound so self-centred. Try and be a little more gracious.

Proudboomer · 23/02/2021 18:56

Wow I dint know I was retired can someone tell the government so that I can have my pension as the bastards keep telling me I can’t have it until I am 67.

MagicSummer · 23/02/2021 18:56

Stop moaning OP, you have many years to enjoy things whilst older people do not. Let them enjoy their life without feeling jealous.

Kitkatandcoffee · 23/02/2021 18:57

I take exception to the most 50/60 year old are retired. Showing your ageist view and probably financial situation. Most people I know in my age group 60 are still working and will be until 67. I won’t be able to afford a foreign holiday as on furlough from my minimum wage job.

Porcupineintherough · 23/02/2021 18:57

It's weird that so many of those who were wailing about the damage to the economy caused by the lockdowns they didnt support are now bitching about opening up aspects of the economy before they personally are ready.

UrAWizHarry · 23/02/2021 18:58

Bar International travel the idea of a jab card will not happen for all sorts of reasons.

Regardless, how fucking selfish do you have to be to insist that everybody has to be vaccinated before restrictions start being lifted?

Brefugee · 23/02/2021 18:58

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age.

also, OP, pull your head out of your arse and at least look up WASPI women. 50/60 "probably still working" I nearly bust a rib laughing at that.
