To think that vaccination cards are very unfair.

I can see why they are needed but I think it's very unfair how they are going to be used. I am 39 and have no health issues. I am not sure when I will get the vaccination as I ve read they haven't even decided groups beyond group 9. So, that means it could be ages before I get any normality back in my life like going to restaurants, pubs, concerts and holidays. I am unsure if I should book a holiday in August as I don't know if I will be vaccinated by then.

I am feel quite cross about this and my parents and friends parents (70+) are booking holidays and cruises etc and will get their lives back so much quicker than I will. Yet IMO my age group and below are the ones that have probably made the greatest sacrifices, juggling home schooling, work and studying, financial worries. Everyone I know in the 60+ category have spent their days gardening, knitting and being bored but with little stress and sacrifice, yet they will be the first to get their lives back.

Not only it is likely my age group and below will feel the lasting effects most from this and will likely pay the most for this with tax increases etc, we will be the last to get the benefits of coming out of lockdown. I don't think they should insist on vaccination cards until everyone is vaccinated.

@studychick81 again I ask, you expect the airline and holiday industry to wait until everyone has their vaccination card?

They won't be going on holiday, they can't afford it!

Jesus you want the, to suffer more because you don't think it's fair?

EmbarrassingMama · 23/02/2021 18:58

Bloody hellfire OP. Read this again, stop feeling so bloody sorry for yourself and stop being so condescending.

Not that anyone's said they will exist, but you'll be vaccinated by the end of July and lots of other people (I'm pregnant and won't be eligible until October) won't be for a lot longer. Get a grip.

MagicSummer · 23/02/2021 18:59

My father as a GP was working until he was 75 - and brilliant with it. God I hate how some of you people write off everybody over 60 as 'old'.

Dentistlakes · 23/02/2021 19:00

It is what it is. Travel companies (like Saga) will do all they can to claw in as much business as they can and if they can use vaccine passports and the like as a sales tactic, they will. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be travelling aboard this summer, vaccinated or not. Who knows what variants will be around and if the current vaccines will be effective against them.

I prefer to holiday in the UK anyway tbh, so not massively bothered, but I can see how this situation would irritate those who really look forward to their trips abroad. This whole situation is a nightmare for everyone, just in different ways.

Sleepyquest · 23/02/2021 19:00

YANBU OP. I agree with you completely. Me and my child will have to continue sitting on our sofa whilst those of a certain age go swanning about living the high life. My DD has already missed out on so much. It's a piss take!!

We have protected the older generations by giving up a year of our lives, what should have been the best year of my life so far and they want to go out the minute they get the vaccine and risk infection. Really annoying.

Diva66 · 23/02/2021 19:00

You’re welcome to my vaccination card as long as you also take the illness that gives me the immense privilege of being vaccinated before you. Take my parking badge too while you’re about it. I should be absolutely delighted not to need these things.

lachy · 23/02/2021 19:01

@studychick81

We shouldn't be in competition to get a vaccine, or a vaccine passport, but there was a very clear need to get the vaccinations to those groups who would be most at risk of being severely affected by Covid and in terms of categories that includes over 60s.

We need to remember that having a jab doesn't guarantee immunity. We still need to stick to the guidelines.

While some over 60's, may well be retired, and knitting and gardening (Hmm) a significant proportion of this generation are still working, and for you to think otherwise is taking a very generalistic view. You're talking about people who were teenagers in the 60's and 70's.

There will be lots of people wanting to book holidays, cruises and so on, and why shouldn't they? This last year has been unbearable for pretty much everyone, it's not like they are hopping on a plane tomorrow.

Yesterday's announcement is a road map. It is not 100% guaranteed.

Eventually everyone will be offered a vaccine. But until then, remember that there's thousands of people whose lives have been irrevocably changed as a result of covid.

Blockedoff · 23/02/2021 19:02

@Sleepyquest wow, that's bitter!

Dentistlakes · 23/02/2021 19:02

If you can afford to retire when you hit 50 OP good on you! Unfortunately the majority will have to work to pension age or beyond in a lot of cases.

studychick81 · 23/02/2021 19:03

@Thimbleberries

And you can book holidays too. They are hoping to vaccinate every by July, and it's unlikely that people can travel abroad very much before that anyway. And you are just as able to book holidays within the UK, as the rules for that will be eased at the same time for everyone.
Are we? It said on the bbc that airlines are already saying they will be asking for proof of vaccinations to be able to travel.

Are other places such as cinemas, soft plays, sporting and recreational places going to follow suit? I can see why they might? So they can open safely, but for someone who potentially won't have the vaccination can't go.

I am thinking that children will be excluded completely from this, as goodness knows when they will get a vaccination.

gigity · 23/02/2021 19:03

Some of these comments are just as ridiculous as the OPs comment about 60 yrs old not working. However I can see her point & don't understand why they should suck it up.

Totally agree, we can all go on holiday or no one.

Which is what the elderly said when there was a suggestion last year they lockdown whilst younger people swan about and enjoy themselves.

However, there wont be any vaccine passport or cert, unworkable, unfair and will make Bojo unelectable.

Erkrie · 23/02/2021 19:05

Well you'll have plenty of years ahead of you to go on holiday op.
.

gigity · 23/02/2021 19:05

Absolutely but I don't think that's age specific.

Belindabelle · 23/02/2021 19:05

No one is vaccinated until they have received both doses.

If a particular country or airline or shop decide they want proof of vaccination then that is up to them.

Don’t worry apparently Michael Gove has been put in charge of looking into vaccine passports so everything should run smoothly.

lljkk · 23/02/2021 19:05

The average age of retirement in the UK last year (2019) was 65.3 for men and 64.3 for women, according to a DWP annual report.

hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good barney...

a lot of those 'retired' persons will actually be working part time or sporadically, too, while drawing pension too.

VinylDetective · 23/02/2021 19:05

Do you see many pensioners at soft play? Given none of its users are getting vaccinated, that hypothesis is far fetched, to say the least.

FoxAndRabbit · 23/02/2021 19:06

now we are coming out of lockdown we are the last to get our lives back. Sorry, but it feels very unfair.

But you're not the last to get your life back are you. You're 39. So you're not in the youngest categories are you. You'll probably get yours in May if they carry on at the rate they're going. It's the 18 year olds who'll be last. Don't you follow the news?

those few months mean we miss out on a desperately needed summer holiday and events and activities with the kids over summer potentially.

Again...Don't you follow the news? Activities will be back on by summer - June 21st all being well. You are just making this stuff up.

Confusedandshaken · 23/02/2021 19:06

YABU and selfish. You have the massive privileges in life of being youngish, fit , employed and having free access to the vaccine and you are complaining that older, less healthy people are being prioritised over you.

And as for the complaints about having to pay for this vaccine! How ridiculous. It's today's pensioners who paid for your education and medical treatment up until now. They also paid for the university education and training of practically every Doctor, nurse and epidemiologist over the age of about 44 through the maintenance grant system.

TwirpingBird · 23/02/2021 19:07

I think what you are saying is very unfair, but I dont think it will actually happen. The backlash would be of epic proportions. Businesses need money, we need tourists, people need to spend money. They wont push an entire section of society out of the (desperate) recovering economy. I imagine these vaccine cards will be introduced when all adults have been vaccinated, and there will be exceptions (pregnant, kids, allergies). Boris needs our money. He isnt going to turn our pound away at every pub and restaurant.

However I do imagine we will need one for international travel, which I do understand, even though it means I may have to wait til August to see my family in Ireland again while everyone else gets their reunion.

gigity · 23/02/2021 19:07

hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good barney...

it was for the OP

a lot of those 'retired' persons will actually be working part time or sporadically, too, while drawing pension too.

Nonetheless that is what the average retirement ages are.

lockdownalli · 23/02/2021 19:07

I know some 50/60s are probably still working, I know there will be exceptions but generally 60 isn't working age.

Are you serious?

With regards to vaccination cards for travel, they are already in existence. I have one for Yellow Fever. If a country insists on a vaccination card, then you won't be able to go until you are vaccinated. Really not the end of the world is it OP? I think you need a bit of perspective.

Chocsmyfav · 23/02/2021 19:08

Lol I think you’ll get a bashing on this thread. Yes I agree with some of what your saying, I think the elderly should get the vaccine first but there is plenty young healthy people skipping the queue getting the jag, not willing to wait for their turn.

anniegun · 23/02/2021 19:08

Lol at 60 not being working age. You do know the state pension age is 66?

Cloudbeeb · 23/02/2021 19:09

If they are brought in, I agree it should only be when everyone has been offered one.
