Has anyone else gone against the grain? If so, what did you wear?

Very much open to links/suggestions for a classy (but not white/cream) wedding dress. :)

Mine was bright blue.

HitchFlix · 21/02/2021 15:41

No one says you have to! The nicest wedding dress I've seen was embellished silver on top and the skirt part was a very soft pink. That possibly sounds tacky but it absolutely wasn't. The bride in question was/is stunning and would look good in a sack but the dress was divine! I don't know where it was from but knowing her it was probably £££

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 21/02/2021 15:41

Mine was champagne

RhodaDendron · 21/02/2021 15:42

Mine was red, pink, white and grey. It was perfect for the casual laid back wedding I didn’t end up having! I was so nervous about having a wedding that I pretended I was attending the Cannes film festival instead. It was slightly deranged but I got a lot of compliments.

I'm getting married in a white dress this summer, but not a wedding dress! Get married in whatever you like and feel good in! Smile

PlanDeRaccordement · 21/02/2021 15:44

I didn’t even wear a dress at my wedding.

Thingsdogetbetter · 21/02/2021 15:45

Silver shift dress for 1st. Leopard print 50s style for 2nd. I'm 52 and none of my friends wore white/cream. We all wanted dresses we could wear again (with some adaptation). Just seems an awful lot of money for one wear. And white/cream makes me look washed out anyway.

fairydustandpixies · 21/02/2021 15:45

Mine was scarlet - mostly to wind up my now ex MIL. She hated me because I'd been married before and called me a 'scarlet woman' behind my back. But it was a fabulous colour and definitely a talking point!

(She called me far worse when I filed for divorce from her son...😂😁)

PracticingPerson · 21/02/2021 15:46

Beautiful deep blue

AuntieDolly · 21/02/2021 15:47

Back in the 90s I wore a plum velvet jacket and ivory satin skirt. Wear what you like!

It's a Victorian fashion to wear white. Wear something that makes you feel good.

What colours do you like? What colours suit you?

PenOrPencil · 21/02/2021 15:47

Wear whatever you want! I wore a suit.

BloodyCovid · 21/02/2021 15:47

Mine was purple with a sort of three dimensional spiky spiderweb design all over. Looking back, it was a bit of a protest about getting married.......

Some lovely and some not as lovely on here

(Mine was ivory, first worn by my mother in 1958 - we were both traditionally "entitled" to white, but when she tried it on her mum said "you're not wearing white, Joyce..." Apart from the colour very much a "bridal" dress.)

One of my sisters wore bronze, which she'd worn as my bridesmaid, with a cream jacket. Her 10yo bridesmaid wore cream with a green sash. Both dresses were mid-calf length.

Another sister wore a dress she used for early music performances - tudorish style green (?)brocade.

Sister-in-law wore gold with a dark blue cloak thing.

catinbootsx · 21/02/2021 15:48

Mine was taupe I think

Caramelwhispers · 21/02/2021 15:48

Pale gold

mootymoo · 21/02/2021 15:50

My friend had a bright red dress but wedding dress style (or more full length bridesmaids, not puffy)

MaskingForIt · 21/02/2021 15:51

Black and red jacquard fabric, knee-length, £69 from River Island. I’d already worn it to a few formal events and lover how I looked and felt in it, so it seemed like the ideal choice.

I just couldn’t wrap my head around paying hundreds or thousands on a dress I would wear once. I have a mortgage to pay off and a pension to save for.

Username7521 · 21/02/2021 15:53

Bright yellow, it was awesome and I still wear it now.
I can’t believe people spend all that money on a dress they wear once!

wobblewombat · 21/02/2021 15:56

Gold...

CassandrasCastle · 21/02/2021 15:56

I want pictures! These all sound beautiful.
I've been married once, in white.

When I get married to current DP, I really want to wear green silk (I've got ted hair)...someone find me a dress of this description please? SmileWink

CassandrasCastle · 21/02/2021 15:56

That would be red hair obvs 😶

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 21/02/2021 15:57

I wore oyster pink.

raspberryk · 21/02/2021 15:58

Mine was blush pink with a pale gold/champagne thread running through it. Absolutely gorgeous and I’m glad I wasn’t encouraged to wear white/Ivory/cream/champagne as it just doesn’t suit me!
