Basically this boxer sounds like a grade A arsehole.

What possesses such a person to choose a contact/combat sport ? Surely a decent human being would think, yes, I am a trans woman, yes, I want to live my life equally, but no, I appreciate my physique could do serious harm to a woman so I’ll select another sport.

It has gone too far. The people I feel sorry for are those who wish to live as trans, who accept that transwomen are transwomen, and transmen are transmen, and are being bundled in with those who are taking steps to erase and deny biology. After all, people have been trans for years and years without demanding all of this, this has an ulterior motive.

This work should be far more fair than it is. Wishing for something does not mean it is happening.

This will destroy women’s sport, it already is. With weight lifting records being smashed by those born in male bodies.

I'm so angry about this. Have discussed it many times with DH, who thinks that the only thing that will put a stop to this, is a woman getting killed by a trans gender opponent. I definitely agree.

I think for some people, death of an opponent would be a victory.

It's weird for me because I am not anti boxing...but with that possibility in mind, maybe I should be.

That’s appalling. My DP is the same weight as me. However, he is far, far, stronger than me. If he wanted (he doesn’t) to, he could easily kill me in seconds and there wouldn’t be a damn thing I could do about it.

It's not really something they came up with on their own though. A ot of people come out of the era of "girls are the same as boys and it's sexist to say otherwise."

This comes out any time you see discussions of women in action films, or in jobs like firefighting, but even in boxing crazily enough. Back in the 90s there was a boxing film, called GirlFight. The female lead became a great boxer, was dating a male boxer a little older and with more experience. They couldn't find enough girls for her to compete against, so she beat one male boxer at the club and then was supposed to fight the boyfriend.

He was against it and this was shown as him disrespecting her ability and personhood - it was his latent sexism. She fought him, and won, and then believed he really respected her because he hadn't help back.

It was actually a great film except that bit, which was completely idiotic. But very typical of the narrative at the time.

However I think a lot of trans people would be in agreement that this is wrong, which also should be noted.

This is so wrong.
Men are born and develop to be stronger and faster - biological fact. So any contact sport, or any other sport where strength and speed is a factor including running, tennis and many other contests should not be allowed in this way. Any sport where strength and and speed don’t matter - tactical challenges where it is about thinking - should be ok. E.g. chess.
So if a man wants to win and thinks he will have a better chance to do so as a woman then what’s stopping him doing this?

I was just googling and apparently two “transgender health experts” (vested interest, much) said they were ok to fight because of the hormone taking and that their previous male sex did not confer an advantage. Yeah, right.

i cant understand how anyone thinks its a good thing. the only explanation i can come up with is:
a- not very bright
b - complete misogynist.

its so sad what they are doing to young women athletes in the US. shameful.

beating UP women is an enjoyable pastime for them.

YANBU but if also like to point out to the PPs saying they chose to compete against FF - they did not know FF was a trans woman until after they fractured their skull.

However, even if they did it wouldn't make it less unfair - women have trained hard to compete at this level and need to pay their bills etc.
