To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

Yes I do every time, even in the night

SimonJT · 05/02/2021 23:15

No wonder germs spread like wildfire in primary schools if so many children have dirty parents who don’t teach them basic hygiene 🤢

TitInATrance · 05/02/2021 23:15

@BohemianDream I was just coming back to mention that. The unsanitary things I did was I was younger (often alfresco) must be unknown to the younger generation 🙂

Marsbardelight · 05/02/2021 23:15

@Itsnotalwaysme

Most of the time but not always. I couldn't be arsed washing my hands every single time I got up for a wee in the middle of the night. I just want to dive back into my bed and pretend I never woke up Grin
Completely agree!
pigsDOfly · 05/02/2021 23:15

I was hoping that all the encouragement to wash hand well during this pandemic would result in an increase in people washing their hand after using public loos. Clearly, going by this thread, that isn't going to happen.

I wash my hands after every wee, I always have. It's basic hygiene.

And I'll repeat this for the person who still seems to think that urine is sterile, even after several posters have stated that it isn't: urine, fresh or otherwise, is not sterile.

Happynewtier · 05/02/2021 23:16

But you should be washing your hands regularly throughout the day anyway (even pre Covid!), so why wouldn't you just do that after you use the toilet? I don't get it? It's a joke surely, no one is this grim? Your toilet can be as clean as you like, but you're still touching the flush (I assume you flush?!) which has been touched by others, maybe not after just a wee, and even with regular cleaning, toilets/flushes, lightswitches, door handles etc are still going to have bacteria (and not the good type) on them?! Plus in the nicest possible way, if you are serious about not washing your hands after using the toilet, your hygeine standards would have me beg to differ on how immaculate your toilet actually is. If you went to a restaurant and saw a member of staff leave the bathroom and go and handle your food, can you honestly say that it wouldn't bother you? Obviously it would, which proves why it is an unhygienic habit.

Waspnest · 05/02/2021 23:17

Yes I always wash my hands after a wee even though the chance of transferring bacteria is probably small.

The same as I always indicate when driving even if nobody is around. It makes it automatic when you are out and about.

TJ17 · 05/02/2021 23:17

I do and also after I help DS have a wee (bc I still touch the loo seat and usually have to give it a wipe with tissue after) and every nappy change on the baby, but my hands are sore and cracked rn!

Can I just ask those who don't wash after every wee - do you wash them before handling/preparing food?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 23:17

When you take pants down you touch fresh & old sweat and urine and germs that you cannot necessary see or feel . In a bathroom germs can live on hard surface for up to 12hours
Staphylococcus,(staph) norovirus etc all pass easily on handles,taps,lids

And no urine isn’t sterile

SoupDragon · 05/02/2021 23:18

🤔

Apileofballyhoo · 05/02/2021 23:19

Can't believe people don't wash their hands after doing a wee.

Siw2020 · 05/02/2021 23:19

This thread is grossing me out.

Yet... I sometimes dont wash my hands after a wee in the middle of the night (only if absolutely 100% no contact is made between hand and wee/anything). So, no touching of door handles (its already open), no flushing and obviously using toilet roll sufficiently that my fingers remain totally dry. If theres the slightest chance of touching anything then I will wash.

And the times I havent, the first thing I do in the morning is wash hands.

MiaMc · 05/02/2021 23:20

@doctorhamster

I don't wash after a pee. In 40 years I've never been ill from failing to wash my hands after a pee either. What disease do all the Pearl clutches think they'll get if they don't wash their hands? Confused
No worries if you cause anyone else to become ill though huh?
TartanLassie · 05/02/2021 23:20

Oh dear god! People think like this???

I thought everyone washed their hands after a wee. You'd make your mate a cup of tea and a sandwich after having a wee and NOT WASH YOUR HANDS?

I am genuinely gobsmacked!

MrsPerfect12 · 05/02/2021 23:21

I don't understand the not needing to wipe?!
Yes I wash my hands.

IDKNABYBIF22 · 05/02/2021 23:21

Surprised and grossed out at how many people don't wash their hands after a wee! Grim.

Would have thought for the vast majority of people it would be an automatic habit to jusy wash your hands after going to the loo, no matter if you had a shit or not Envy (not envy, obviously)

To be fair I think everyone has said they wash their hands before food prep
HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 05/02/2021 23:23

@SimonJT

Why do people wrongly think urine is sterile?
In most cases it is. I splashed someone else's urine into my eye (pre Covid) whilst emptying a commode. Obviously I knew this person didn't have anything such as HIV or hepatitis and The Dr in A&E told me because urine is sterile I was cleared to go
sbhydrogen · 05/02/2021 23:23

Always! Although for a wee I'll normally just use water, unless the toilet paper gets soaked through.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 05/02/2021 23:24

My God no wonder we have problems with Covid.

Its basic hygiene & infection control.

Maves · 05/02/2021 23:24

Sorry but it's just ducking laziness covid or not why wouldn't you? Would you really take a piss and then go give your kids a biscuit or something nasty.

SimonJT · 05/02/2021 23:24

@HopingForOurRainbowBaby Urine is not sterile.

MiaMc · 05/02/2021 23:25

www.bbc.com/future/article/20200417-the-hidden-reasons-some-people-dont-wash-their-hands

Plenty of delusional optimism on this thread I think!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/02/2021 23:25

Urine is not aseptic it’s not sterile

Moneyfornothingkerbsforfree · 05/02/2021 23:26

I never do. In or out of the home. Pre or post covid. Immune system strong as an ox 💪
