Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

@grapewine

It only takes a quick Google search to realise that urine is not sterile.
Your skin isn’t sterile either. Your whole body is teeming with bacteria. Doesn’t mean they’re harmful.

I think people are over concerned with germs. We share our bodies with billions of bacteria. These are essential for healthy function of the body and immune system.

Whilst people may find not washing disgusting it’s only due to conditioning as a child. I

What about catching Worms?

TrialOfStyle · 06/02/2021 08:04

I really, really don’t believe that people who don’t wash their hands (something that takes all of 30 seconds) are really fastidiously cleaning their toilets.

Same goes for prepping food, touching the fridge/ kettle/ cutlery drawer to make a cup of tea. I really don’t believe you suddenly remember before touching anything else but not just after using the toilet. Really grim.

Confusedandshaken · 06/02/2021 08:06

I don't. Sanitising and constant handwashing have played merry hell with my eczema . My hands and wrists are covered in red raw itchy, scaly patches so if I'm at home and not planning on going out or cooking and it's just a wee I skip the handwash.

I always do a proper handwash after pooing, before cooking and on the very rare occasions when I leave the house.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/02/2021 08:06

@heatedroller stomach bugs spread quickly through schools.

heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:06

@Idontbelieveit12

The only time I don’t is when I’m half asleep in the night
But the 'germs' don't know it's night time do they!

@heatedroller I didn’t mention colds or flu, however children with dirty parents are unlikely to be taught to wash their hands after coughing/sneezing/picking their nose.

Urine contains e-coli, e-coli outbreaks close primary schools on a far too regular basis.

heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:07

@Mreggsworth

A very brisk splash under water and wipe with towel after wee, a soapy hand wash after poo.
The splash of water will be doing nothing but making you feel better

Unless you wash the flush after every time you pull it, then Ew. I did wonder at the start of the pandemic' why they had to tell adults to wash their hands and explain the importance, it seems to be becoming clearer.

heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:08

@Kljnmw3459

Most of us don't wash our hands properly after every wee, let's just admit it....20 seconds, lathering every part of the hand and drying your hands properly with a clean towel or paper towel?
No one will admit apparently

@saggybaps

Always have and always will do. Your post explains to me why Covid has run through the country like a dose of salts and I’m actually quite shocked. Wash. Your. Hands.
I wash my hands all the bloody time thank you

@Shaniac

3rd world countries have better hygeine than many on mumsnet. Fucking hell.

Hundreds of years ago people discovered soap and water helped stop many infections. Now 2021 people think they dont need to bother being clean.

Oh dear 'third world counties' - bit fucking judgemental aren't you?

Phrowzunn · 06/02/2021 08:10

Oh no this thread is horrifying!! Wash your hands people! I have two small children and wash my hands every time I go to the toilet, every time my elder goes to the toilet and I help her, every time I change my younger’s nappy, before I make either of them food, probably at least 20 times a day... and my hands are still here! Stop making excuses. It’s very, very basic hygiene. What a bunch of mingers 😂

heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:10

@Lalliella

Ewww this thread is vile. I can’t believe so many people don’t wash their hands after a wee. GERMS! Yuck!
You know you're covered in germs all the time regardless of hand washing?

Lordamighty · 06/02/2021 08:10

I’m surprised people are still trying to justify not washing hands after using the toilet, in the middle of a pandemic too.

heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:11

@vulturedudess

I always do even if sometimes it's just a quick rinse without soap. It's disgusting how many women walk straight out of public toilets without washing their hands Envy
What a pointless endeavour. You may as well not bother

@heatedroller

'Grim' but you get back into bed with unwashed hands! The horror!
Not horror more the fact is that it is unhygienic Urine has 33 types of bacteria in normal pee. Christ I hope you wipe too 😂
heatedroller · 06/02/2021 08:13

@PickAChew

Piss ceases being sterile the moment it leaves the urethra.
Very low levels of bacteria though. Compared to basically everything else. Like phone screens

Except after using the toilet.

Taylrse · 06/02/2021 08:13

Nah I don't bother after every single wee at home.
I bed our beds have more bacteria in than the toilet seat

Taylrse · 06/02/2021 08:13

*bet

Beautiful3 · 06/02/2021 08:18

Of course I wash my hands every single time!!! Why wouldnt I? You really should.

merrymouse · 06/02/2021 08:23

I really, really don’t believe that people who don’t wash their hands (something that takes all of 30 seconds) are really fastidiously cleaning their toilets.

Agree.

The level of cleanliness claimed in order to justify not washing hands, would involve a lot of incidental hand washing, which is fine, but also wouldn’t save any time.

Also, if you are following Covid guidelines, why not wash your hands when you are in the bathroom anyway?

Exhausteddog · 06/02/2021 08:24

I wash my hands after every wee , including the middle of the night ones (but possibly not for the full 20-30 seconds,)
I would say i was surprised but thinking back to times i went out, there are a lot of people you see in public toilets exit the cubicle and walk away.
A lot of public toilets (especially beaches, and especially I noticed, in France) dont provide soap.i would still wash my hands using the basin, and, if I was anticipating going somewhere like that, I would take my own soap.
