Made to feel guilty as I’ve had the Covid vaccination!

So I have a teen DC (CEV) who was vaccinated against Covid yesterday, I was with him and was offered one too as the clinic had quite a few cancellations apparently. I certainly wasn’t expecting it so was caught on the spot but thought I’d be pretty stupid to turn it down so had it.

I mentioned it to my sister who was quite pissed off saying it wasn’t fair! She has since told her husband and I got a sarcastic message from her SIL this morning asking me if I was proud of myself ‘jumping the queue’ and how did I deserve to be so lucky. No, I’m not lucky to have a DS who’ll never live independently Angry. She not very nice anyway and I know she has been really scared of getting Covid as she’s very overweight but this is really nasty isn’t it?

I didn’t do anything wrong. Would anyone have turned it down in my shoes?

Nope. You didn’t do anything wrong.

Ignore them.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 04/02/2021 18:24

No, you did nothing wrong, it was offered and you understandably accepted. Ignore the green eyes

oscarandelliesdad · 04/02/2021 18:25

Ignore themFlowers

OiYouGetOffMyCloud · 04/02/2021 18:25

Nothing wrong! You didn’t book in, it was offered to you and it saves a jab being wasted. SIL is an idiot.

Wolfiefan · 04/02/2021 18:25

Why on earth should you feel guilty for having a vaccination that could well go to waste if you didn’t. She’s being an arse.

lewes2 · 04/02/2021 18:26

I'm so pleased you've had the vaccine, take no notice of them.

Annebronte · 04/02/2021 18:26

Ignore them. You used a vaccine that might have gone to waste. Every single vaccine given is a positive step for all of us, whoever gets it!

FishWithoutABike · 04/02/2021 18:26

You are a career for a vulnerable person. Arguably you should be prioritised regardless. I understand her feeling a bit disappointed but not to the point she is sending you dickish messages.

Xmassprout · 04/02/2021 18:26

Would she rather the vaccine go to waste? As that is what would have happened.

Lots of volunteers at the vaccination centres are getting jabs if there's been cancellations. It would be foolish to let the jab go to waste just for the sake of not wanting to have until your turn

Hercules12 · 04/02/2021 18:26

I think the opposite. I think it would have been wrong for you to refuse and I would have judged you for that.

12frogsincoats · 04/02/2021 18:27

YABU to feel guilty. No one in their right mind would have turned down the nurses's offer! You did nothing wrong.

Cocomarine · 04/02/2021 18:27

Honestly... why would you feel guilty?
You know the vaccine would otherwise be wasted.
You know that with a CEV teen in your household and the vaccine not giving total immunity that it makes sense for you to have a vaccine.

Why are you posting about feeling guilty? She can’t do that to you, so stop choosing it for yourself. Post instead just to share what a nasty piece of work she is if you like.. but stop making your own (bad) choice to feel guilty.

Crazycatlady83 · 04/02/2021 18:28

Jealously is ugly! You did completely the right thing, the best thing you could have done in the circumstances - what would she rather, if thrown down the drain! Well done for taking it and getting us one tiny step back to normal!!

buckeejit · 04/02/2021 18:28

I'd reply saying 'are you proud of being such a spiteful bitch?'

Ignore her & great that you got the jab. The more the merrier & im delighted to hear of anyone getting it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/02/2021 18:28

Take no notice.

TenaciousOnePointOne · 04/02/2021 18:28

This.

Ignore them all.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 04/02/2021 18:28

You did nothing wrong. It sounds absolutely sensible and understandable in the circumstances.

I don’t think many would turn it down if they had people dependent on them at home.

Spudina · 04/02/2021 18:29

Ignore them. Wasting vaccines is awful, it’s much better that someone gets it. You were offered, you accepted. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes our hospital has 75 DNAs a day and there are people whose job it is to find 75 people to get it at last minute.

Alexandernevermind · 04/02/2021 18:29

^^ what @FishWithoutABike said!

Muckduck · 04/02/2021 18:29

They're being unreasonable. I think it's great you had one, and they should be offered to more families living with CEV people imo.

Dogonahottinroof · 04/02/2021 18:30

I think it is just a bit frustrating for CEV people who haven't been contacted. My DH is waiting but most of my family have been done as they happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Landlubber2019 · 04/02/2021 18:30

I feel your pain, I got mine early too a few weeks ago. To have refused would have been a wasted vaccine and I was simply in the right place at the right time. I felt guilty too and ashamed but I didn't choose it or ask to manipulate the system so I did nothing wrong and neither did you.

Springersrock · 04/02/2021 18:30

YABU to feel guilty. You’ve got nothing to feel guilty for

My brother took his CEV wife for her vaccination earlier this week. They had spares so offered him one and he jumped at it.

He doesn’t feel guilty in the slightest. It makes sense for them both to be protected

Fembot123 · 04/02/2021 18:31

What is WRONG with them 😱 glad you were there and it didn’t go to waste.

MarinPrime · 04/02/2021 18:32

What nasty relatives you've got. I just can't imagine a relative texting me something like that.
