Just wondered what people's thoughts were following the allegations.
I do think it's awful he's effectively been sacked from all employment before having been found guilty of any allegations.

OP posts:
SmallPrawnEnergy · 04/02/2021 12:25

Not surprising tbh. The show he did with Taylor
Momsen he was literally groping her on stage and she had barely turned 18.

Regularsizedrudy · 04/02/2021 12:40

He admitted it in his own autobiography. Every woman he has been with has made the same allegations.

ErickBroch · 04/02/2021 12:44

MM is a classic 'everyone knew but said nothing' scenario. Endless comments online from him over the last 2 decades in his autobio and interviews etc. 11 separate women have come forward with similar experiences - must be fake.

MorrisZapp · 04/02/2021 12:47

Did he ever have a crossover hit? I can't remember hearing him on the radio.

Yeah. A cover of a cover. Tainted Love.

I remember reading an interview in a magazine when I was about 15 where we was quoted as saying something along the lines of he hated virgins and anyone who was a virgin was a giant loser. Kinda thought he was a bit of a tosser after that. Now I just think he's a terrible human. Feel bad for ERW and the other women he abused (there could be way more than we know about, fans and so on).

chestnutmares · 04/02/2021 13:09

Am also a bit appalled at DVT statement using this language: Abuse of any kind has no place in any relationship. I urge those of you who have incurred abuse to take steps to heal and the strength to fully realise yourself.

The definition of incurred is: become subject to (something unwelcome or unpleasant) as a result of one's own behaviour or actions.

If that's not victim-blaming, what is? Fucking hell.

I'd hold off on judging her honestly. I was briefly on her fan forum where she used to post and chat with fans, and while she mostly avoided taking about MM (she was a very private person) there was one post about his behaviour that made it quite clear he wasn't good to her. It's notable that she doesn't say she wasn't abused, just that her experiences didn't match those of ERW. So hold off on judgement, I suspect she has a lot to process herself, especially as ERW was directly after her. If I were her I'd be wondering how close I came to going through the same.

@Hellothere19999

Personally, I’m not entirely surprised but I do feel the abuse Armie Hammer appears to be guilty of is far worse and getting a lot less coverage. It’s almost like the demonising of Marilyn is a distraction so the Armie hammer stuff can quietly be forgotten because he is rich, blonde and handsome. Even tho he did rape women and try to force young girls to do things they weren’t comfortable with.
I think its really poor taste to claim that one type of abuse is worse than another. It shouldn't be up for comparison. They can both be horrible people at the same time, one does not cancel out the other. The news about Brian isn't detracting from the news about Armie.
DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 04/02/2021 13:27

I remember seeing an interview with MM and DVT, and the interviewer said that MM had offered to show DVTs breasts to him.

DVT then went on to say he offers her breasts as a thank you to people, then when asked if she minded, she just said "Ive had X amount of years of it now" and looked really uncomfortable.

I think she is probably a victim of his abuse, as much as anyone, but its a very difficult thing to admit, even to yourself.

Beebityboo · 04/02/2021 13:29

Marilyn Manson admitted to abusing a drunk, unconscious woman in the Tate House WITH Trent Reznor. It's a disgusting anecdote so I would really advise against looking it up. They set her public hair on fire amongst other things. Reznor can get in the bin too.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 04/02/2021 13:40

TR has always denied those allegations, and hasn't associated with MM for years. As far as I'm aware its only MM that has ever said anything like that about him, and the allegations came about after TR fell out with him.

SweetPetrichor · 04/02/2021 13:42

I don’t think having his record deal cut is going to do him much harm. He’s well established enough to be able to stand on his own two feet.

Is he a nice guy...possibly not. But how much of this is just groupies being groupies. Dita is the only one I’d believe...she’s the dignified one.

Stinkywizzleteets · 04/02/2021 13:44

I’m not surprised at all to hear about this. Aside from his own admissions in the autobiography, it wasn’t unknown within the industry that he was like this people just glossed over his behaviour and looked the other way. The official line being its consensual. I think ‘me too’ needs to hit the music industry big style in the same way it did with acting.

What pisses me off (aside from the treatment of women by these rockstars) is that perfectly good tunes become ruined. Songs I’ve loved for decades now make me ill when I hear them. It happened with lost prophets. I feel physically sick when I hear their songs now knowing what their singer was like and I’m sure the more we hear about the details of MM/BW the more uncomfortable I’ll be hearing his music too.

scotsllb · 04/02/2021 13:44

You tube the video of him performing dope show with Taylor Momsen who was only a teenager at the time.
He choked her on stage and grabbed her chest. Her crew afterwards said she came off stage bleeding and so upset that he did that to her and wasn't rehearsed.
Definitely hidden in plain sight

I don't think Manson cancels Hammer out. It's just another man using his wealth, power and position to abuse women.

Incidentally, are you sure you've got the right bloke? Hammer is most definitely not blonde!

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult
That video is here, interview is around 14:30 mark. The whole thing makes me squirm, the questioning and remarks about DVT, nudity, sex etc from Tom Green are quite crude and unpleasant as well as the bit about her breasts. Ugh. m.youtube.com/watch?v=yUKoNjNe6Ok

plasticCandles · 04/02/2021 13:55

@Thisisworsethananticpated

On the contrary, I think it’s very telling that everyone has dropped him like a stone. They knew what he was like This 👍
But if they knew what he was like why wait till it’s made public ? Where was their sense of right and wrong before it all came out surely that’s just as bad

I just watched some of that and it was disturbing. Both how the host was and the casual mentioning of him offering people to see her breasts as if it was nothing.

Left an ick feeling that’s for sure!

There is a documentary on Sky that was made by Alex Winter of the Bill & Ted films. He was a child star and he interviews many others including ERW. It's absolutely heartbreaking as she discusses the lack of freedom in her childhood (as do all the other actors). The film then takes a bleak turn as they discuss widespread grooming and child abuse in Hollywood. ERW talks at length about an abusive relationship she was in - without naming MM. She also talks about how she stopped going to Awards ceremonies as she had to applaud known child abusers who were sat in the same room as their victims.

As regards Dita, it is possible that she had a completely different relationship with Brian. She was closer to his age, very smart, successful and confident so perhaps he wanted a nice wife as a cover for his more vile activities. Dita is in a difficult position though, maybe she just doesn't want anything to do with that chapter in her life and she probably doesn't feel very charitable towards the women who he cheated on her with, despite them obviously being victims.

Dumakey · 04/02/2021 14:46

I'm just dumbfounded as to how he ended up with any women. They are beautiful, intelligent . He's gross. He's not remotely attractive, and he appears to have been an arse from day one. First date, steak bar with naked women? Just fucking why?

I hate this notion that the only way to be dignified is to keep quiet and move on. It's just another way to shut women up isn't it.

Yes DVT has been dignified but I happen to think Rose Macgowan (sp?) has been extremely dignified in speaking out about the shit she's been through despite numerous attempts to discredit her and end her career. I think ERW was exceptionally dignified to speak out about her own experiences in front of congress. There's nothing undignified about using your own experiences to try and give a voice to others.

Monsteraobliqua · 04/02/2021 15:06

I admired him as a very young goth, I thought he was just a boundary pushing performance artist, especially after he came across so well after Columbine.

I never thought his music was much cop if I'm honest.

What put me off was a magazine interview which talked about either himself or a bandmate sexually abusing another musician when asleep on a tour bus using a banana as though it was a jolly prank. I thought, this isn't subversive, this is pretty disgusting and stopped taking any interest in him. It's shocking that he was hiding so much in plain sight.

Dita VT's statement is odd. It doesn't seem that they ended on good terms or that he treated her well so I'm not sure why she's put something out that appears to defend him (that is the implicature of 'well, he never did it to me in 7 years'). She may just be desperate to head off any questions and stay out of it.

tenbananasaday · 04/02/2021 15:12

Well one of his songs goes...

'You look so pretty
When you cry
Don't wanna hit you
But the only thing
Between our love is
A bloody nose
A busted lip
Three, a blackened eye'
Pistol whipped.

So I wasn't surprised but still disappointed as I am a huge fan.

TastyTicklemore · 04/02/2021 15:17

One reason an ex-wife might want to stay well out of it is because she is legally bound in some way? Divorce settlement/agreement, maybe?
