I like Only Connect, but my word, Victoria Coren Mitchell is, as my teenage DD would say, totally cringe.

I love VCM, I have quite the girl crush on her. In an alternative life I would be bezzer mates with her, Sandi Toksvig and Sue Perkins and we’d all go out together for cocktails.

The only thing that frustrates me in terms of the enjoyment of playing at home is the wall. It's hard to play along to as you can't move on with your guesses until the team makes the same guesses as you. I've tried shouting louder at them but to no use

VCM is the perfect host and OC is my favourite quiz ever.

Makes such a change from all the dumbed down style quizzes.

If you don't like it, well at least you still have The Wheel with Michael McIntyre!

I don't dislike her, I just don't find her amusing. It's not because I can't manage a more highbrow quiz . I don't like Jeremy Paxman's forbidding act on UC either, but I still enjoy the quiz.

I love the show and I love her on it. It's a show for nerds and geeks and she's definitely one of those. She puts the teams at ease.

I like VCM because she's coming across a genuine person, there seems to be no falseness. She's not a size 4, overly styled, overly made up piece of eye candy. There isn't anything wrong with being that way, dress and look how you like, but it wouldn't work as a show if she was!

Only Connect started on BBC4, so completely got away with the 'quirky' non-jokes. It's ironic or summin. I love VCM, she's a brilliant presenter and genuinely seems to enjoy the quiz which is the staple of a good one. Compared with University Challenge following, where JP seems utterly bored being there.

Haven't watched last night's yet. It's getting to the part of the series where it's far more difficult to get points . A 5 pointer in our house is bragging rights rights a week, because we're cool like that .

Since Lisa Tarbuck was mentioned, can I just say that the '100 hops' task in taskmaster is a lovely example of men outright ignoring women's good ideas... probably on youtube if you missed it

Yes, I shout at them too. I particularly hate it when they spend ages discussing the wall and don't just keep clicking to eliminate the wrong answers. Don't overthink it people!

Love OC and love VCM. She’s fab and I love her weird jokes especially the Michael Portillo ones! The singing is meant to be cringy, getting people to sing who would rather be doing almost anything else!

Mondays are great in our house. DH and I settle down cosily to OC and University Challenge, having probably recorded House of Games earlier. OC knocks Mastermind into a cocked hat - admittedly a different style of quiz but MM's so woefully wooden and really showing its age now.

The only thing wrong with OC (apart from the singing) is the incredibly annoying final round. After all the knowledge and clever deductive skills needed for the earlier rounds, spotting missing vowel patterns is just such a weedy let-down. I wish they'd come up with a better idea.

I love Victoria and I love the faintly filthy Michael Portillo based epilogues! As a fellow Michael Portillo fan (there’s a lot of us on MN, just start a weird crush thread, they’ll soon appear - I think VCM must be on here for that reason alone) I hoped the MIchael love was genuine. It was mainly an excuse to mention Michael Portillo. My Only Connect persona – who is very like me, but just different enough to maintain sanity – is always talking about Michael Portillo. He’s perfect for her. Dark, enigmatic, faintly Spanish… Knowledgeable, quirky, with hints of a sexually adventurous past… I once ended a show by saying: “I’m going to hurry back to my dressing room where I hope to find Michael Portillo, sitting naked atop a crate of rioja, challenging me to wrestle him off.” (I was quite proud to get that past the censors.)

Watch out, I’ve been on MN long enough to remember when VCM popped up on here (or at least someone purporting to be her, sounding pretty believable). It was on a thread about her brother IIRC. And then she very politely left. I bet she’s back properly now she has a kid.

I enjoy the quiz and like her but I agree with a PP about the forced singing. Most of the contestants look uncomfortable with it.

I think shes terrific! She always tries to have a laugh and joke with her very ernest competitors .She needs to be lighthearted or could turn into UC pt2! Also a prizewinning poker player of course .She and DM make a great power couple, but she is defo the beauty in this partnership! I would imagine as Mojo jojo 71 says above ,Dinner with her and DM would be an absolute hoot! (Lets not go for a pub quiz though,or maybe yes and we would defo win)!

To anyone else who doesn't like VCM, change the channel. No one is forcing you to watch Only Connect.

I like VCM- the only quiz where I would be guaranteed to fail were I on it, which is the challenge.
