I absolutely love her, wouldn't be anywhere near as good without. She's intending to be cringy with the singing, it's funny!

We always speed through the chat on only connect, the quiz is great fun but VCM and her chat sort of spoils it a bit.

Nah she’s so cringe, like when she said she fancied rees-mogg on hignfy a few years ago. To try hard.

I enjoy the quiz, but I don't understand the adoration of VCM. I mean, she's harmless enough, but the scripted humour is so laboured it's lost. How many times can you do something knowingly unfunny and expect to get a laugh?

I think Liza Tarbuck would be a good host, if VCM ever fancies a break from it.

I love Only Connect, but DH inexplicably doesn't and I can actually drive him out of a room by putting it on. It's particularly useful when he has ostentatious Man Flu and I can't take the sniffles, throat-clearing and Dressing Gown of Doom any longer.

I was really proud tonight of the fact that I got the sheet music connection and the contestants didn't.

Someone upthread mentioned Lisa Tarbuck. She's been on QI a couple of times and comes across as smart and knowledgeable (IMO). She's also willing to confront litter droppers so that's another tick in my book.

I love all of it, except the Michael Portillo jokes.

Love the cringe and the singing, the laboured jokes. It's part of the charm.

As a pp said, VC has a real appreciation of the contestants, which means she can gently tease without seeming cruel. She is saying, yes you're a bit nerdy, but we are all in this together! (Except I know more famous people)

I think she's good. It's nice to see a woman on TV who has been chosen for her intelligence and wit rather than the latest trendy air-head. She also does a great job of hosting HIGNFY.

This and House of Games are literally the only two things I watch on TV at the moment.

I love VCM, I have quite the girl crush on her. In an alternative life I would be bezzer mates with her, Sandi Toksvig and Sue Perkins and we’d all go out together for cocktails.

I love that on OC, the random bizarre facts used to introduce each contestant are never explored or explained further, especially as you know they 100% would be on any other show.

Re the hieroglyphs: I read somewhere that that was a reaction to the first series where they used Greek letters instead, and that at the start of S2 VCM said something like “we had good feedback about the show apart from the use of Greek letters, which some viewers found elitist and off putting. Of course we listened to this feedback and have made some changes...so, [Team 1], please choose your Egyptian hieroglyph”
