I like Only Connect, but my word, Victoria Coren Mitchell is, as my teenage DD would say, totally cringe.

Love VCM. I did believe her for a moment when she said about leaving the show. She was also great when she was on the Off Menu podcast - highly recommend

I agree OP. I do find VCM chat and jokes cringeworthy on the show. Even though it is meant to be ironic or lighter I still have the mute at the ready.

Love the show generally and impressed at the setters and the contestants.

Ah, see i think oc is the perfect quiz for men like that. It's the nerdiest of the nerdy. And she is the uber nerd, but a bit discombobulating, because she doesn't look like a nerd. I think the outfits are deliberate.

But yes, I think he'd have argued the toss anywhere else.

She does tend to use her dress to her advantage. Google her playing poker... she is all smug looks and cleavage.

I enjoy the quiz, but I don't understand the adoration of VCM. I mean, she's harmless enough, but the scripted humour is so laboured it's lost. How many times can you do something knowingly unfunny and expect to get a laugh?

I think Liza Tarbuck would be a good host, if VCM ever fancies a break from it.

As the owner of a very similar body shape to VCM I can confirm that it’s very difficult not to look like that in anything formal or fitted. It is very rare to see a true hourglass on the telly.

I didn't realise she was on telly for ages - I just did her quizzes in the radio times each week. Finally clocked who she was and watched the show. Had to switch off as I couldn't cope with her. Had no idea she was married to David Mitchell either. Ah well... it takes me a while, but I get there in the end.

I think she is brilliant and I love the show. Never miss it. We record it so we can pause the wall and try to solve it ourselves before listening to the contestants do it.

Tonight I got the first wall completely? That doesn't usually happen.

BTW there is always an Only Connect wall to solve in the Radio Times

I love her. She was on Would I Lie To You on Davids team and she was so funny. At first I thought she was a bit cringe but she comes across as a very kind, super intelligent woman. Don't forget she's a world class poker player too xx

I absolutely love VCM, won’t hear a bad word against her! This is our favourite half hour of the week - she makes that show!

We also play “dress or top?” each week; you have to guess if her outfit is a dress or a top and you get to find out if you were right during the connecting walls!

She is confident and secure enough to not give a damn what others think ( I hope). I'm sad I missed it tonight, i love only connect

We love Only Connect - it makes a change from things like The Chase where all the questions are really easy, and it's not just about knowing stuff, but having to think as well.
I think part of the appeal and a lot of VCM's attempts at humour are about accepting that the contestants, and the shows fans, are mostly nerds, and that's OK.

I love her, think she's great.

Can't stand the show though - it's too difficult

My favourite quiz, I love the lateral thinking. It's genuinely a challenge each week! I really like VCM, she isn't hectoring or unkind as a host, but joins in with the nerdiness. Which I love.

Love OC - definitely one of the best things on tv at the moment (along with Back).

I remember watching it for the first few episodes and not understanding what VCM was on about re the writers/producers and thinking the singing was odd. After getting into it and watching more avidly, its like an in-joke and intentionally cringey which makes it even funnier (for me anyway).

I’m a huge fan of VCM and Only Connect.
