AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 3

Thewithesarehere · 29/01/2021 21:26

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:

“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

Let’s vote with our AIBU.

this might also be worth a watch - to be transparent, I haven't watched much of it yet, however I do trust the people who recommended it and I may well not get back to this thread later, as family complaining at me for being online too much :) www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRU9NIX0AA143z2QKukQcOqS96qriKGyw

@Thewithesarehere

On the thread on JK Rowling, Mumsnet have deleted my post where in questioned who is behind prescribing off label puberty blockers and where does this money trail lead to!

I am mighty pissed off Mumsnet Angry

did you get a reason? and Flowers to you, these conversations, light and air on the subject are crucial
Thewithesarehere · 30/01/2021 14:38

@JoodyBlue
Yes. It ‘broke our guidelines’ or something to that effect.

Thewithesarehere · 30/01/2021 14:45

When I was 15, I had absolutely no idea about the world though I considered myself clever. Girls at 15 are under far too much pressure already. If I had been given a choice, I would definitely have gone to get puberty blockers.

I don't care if it allows people to call me 'right-wing' (ludicrous to anyone that knows me) - I think the Daily Mail and the Times are excellent on this issue.

The strange bedfellows we make Smile

You are not some in thinking this. The stance that Liz Truss has taken makes me quite Ken on seeing how her political career evolves from here. It’s never too late to have more female PMs. Wink

Strange bedfellows indeed @Thewithesarehere, amazing and very enlightening to me, I hope I've become less narrow in my thinking through this issue.

I'm bitterly disappointed in many female MPs though - not just those who don't speak out or even show support for people like Rosie Duffield who do, but those such as Lisa Nandy who support the trans activist agenda over Women's rights.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 15:25

If a thread with 183 messages in it has 58 by a single poster, it is almost certainly going to be boring.

It's a shame, because some of the other posters do have interesting things to add when they are allowed to get a word in edgewise.

AryaStarkWolf · 30/01/2021 15:31

@Whatsnewpussyhat

You haven't experienced how shit societies truly are to women. You know why? Because my generation fought for that for you

I think that's one of the biggest problems. The younger generations don't have a fucking clue. They think their rights are safe because they've never known them not to be.
They live under the illusion they are seen as equal to men. Poland proves how fast those rights are taken away by men who want their power back.
It's what's happening on a global scale. They just can't see it yet.

I will keep fighting for my daughters, and everyone else's too and even you Rooty.

This is terrifyingly true unfortunately

Nice of you to look that up just to make me feel bad and ashamed.

If you look through the posts in greater detail you will realise that the majority of those posts from me were in response to direct questions to me given me appearing on the other thread and giving a different view .There was not one single post I posted without prompt (and I'm barely in the other two threads if you are so interested yet so offended).

But thanks for popping by to make me feel like absolute shit. Appreciate it

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/01/2021 15:53

Don't ever feel bad about posting Rooty.
It's always good to have different perspectives and opinions which is the whole point of the threads.

Apologies if you've felt attacked. It isn't personal.

No not at all!! I just know when I'm out my depth. And I really , really valued the last few posts from the ladies there about my generation - thought provoking.

But I'm not sure why you would contribute absolutely jack shit to a thread and then sit and count up someone's posts to make them feel as if it's their fault you haven't posted. Not a nice feeling.

DeaconBoo · 30/01/2021 15:57

I disagree AskingQuestions . Often these threads play out with one person asking questions and getting bombarded various responses.

There are definitely threads with deliberate wilful misunderstandings, derails and name-calling but I've appreciated some of Rooty's posts.

It's really frustrating for a lot of people who have been trying to point out issues on here for years only to have people plop in and say 'well you all think XYZ and you're wrong' but I don't think that's necessarily what's happening here.

There are so many aspects to all this that are concerning and it's difficult to gauge what someone already knows or doesn't, even down to whether they actually believe there are fixed biological sexes or whether that's a social construct or that the existence of chromosome disorders 'proves' that sex is a spectrum etc. Trying to unpick preconceptions and where you stand on them is important!

It was quite interesting actually. Very intense for sure. And I am sure there were a few frustrated people because of that intensity.

There has been plenty of discussion on many issues over the 3 threads.

AryaStarkWolf · 30/01/2021 15:58

Tbf to Rooty, she seems to be one of the only people posting "on the otherside" and is responding to everyone else

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/01/2021 15:58

rooty probably talking about me anyway don't worry about it.

Of course people are going to respond to questions. I found your posts iinteresting eveb if I didn't agree with alot of them.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 16:02

It is definitely off-putting for someone who is not heavily invested if one in three posts anywhere are from a single source, whether they agree with the source or not.

JoodyBlue · 30/01/2021 16:03

@Rooty absolutely. I'd like to thank you so much for engaging. I do feel that younger women are being shown half of moon on this subject You didn't switch off, you came back, you asked questions, networked. You have been brilliant. Please don't feel shit hon. I have also learned a lot from you on this thread.

I'm not on the JK Rowling thread or for the first 1 and a half versions of this thread , if that helps.

Feel free to also count the number of posts quoting me and asking me a question following a singular post of mine.

You have no idea about my life yet you've popped by to try and put me down. Cheers.

RootyT00t · 30/01/2021 16:11

@Idratherberude

Re. Transgender being extended to include not only those who are dysphoric. *@RootyT00t* on the previous thread you said "any poster who thinks we should hark back to the days of it being a mental health disorder should not be allowed to discuss these topics on social media."

Merely hanging the definition does not stop some from still having this mental health issue!
This is like extending the definition of audio hallucinations to include people who can hear music through their headphones when they play music, or extending bulimia to include people with tummy bugs.
It doesn't alleviate the suffering of those with the mental health condition... I do hope you are being obtuse!

Youve misunderstood me.

I was responding directly to a poster who was claiming trans is merely, only, a mental health issue.

That is completely separate and somewhat irrelevant to the suffering in relation to mental health - and absolutely nothing that would ever come out of my mouth at all.

JoodyBlue · 30/01/2021 16:13

Well there has been investments in these threads. People have discussed. One or two people have popped in to say they are too long, haven't read them, what are you on about. There are sound bitey communications - that's what Twitter does, but this is a chat room. I think it is pretty mean to target a person, because they have contributed. Like I say, nothing stopping you contributing @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime or you could start a new thread?

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 16:15

In truth, Rooty really was answering a huge barrage of questions and was being honest. Just as we actually want people to do and complain when they don’t.

Yes, frustrations did get expressed. But at least there was engagement and opportunity to get points discussed even if it was very top level because there wasn’t time for more.

We ask posters who don’t agree to answer us and Rooty, you did. So thank you. You didn’t even have time really to go and follow the links etc. but you still tried to engage.

Impatiens · 30/01/2021 16:18

I was responding directly to a poster who was claiming trans is merely, only, a mental health issue.

Really wish people wouldn't use language like this about MH issues, as if they are somehow lesser than other health issues of that there is some insult implied in categorising someone's mental state in that way.

Identifying as trans isn't a physical issue - there is no test that can be done to 'prove' that someone is trans, it can only be assessed by that person's verbal account.

Thanks wine (and others who have defender me here).

wonder if PP counted the number of times I had multiple posterd s asking questions or the times they posted'i see you haven't answered my question'.

I was out my depth but actually learned a great deal yesterday. It was actually me who said I'd leave the thread as it was purely becoming questioning of me.

I'm honestly taken back by that post. bloody spiteful behaviour.
