AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 3

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:

“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

Let’s vote with our AIBU.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

I thought the intention of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 was to make it possible for transsexual people to marry people of the sex they had transitioned from, since homosexual marriage was not legal at that time? That was certainly what I was told back then. And it was a good reason, back then. But now that homosexual marriage is legal that reason seems otiose.
Correct. Also so that the men transitioning would have the same state pensionable age as women. That has been equalised too.

All the original reasons for the existence of the GRA2004 have been overtaken by events.

It is massively dishonest by activists to now seek make it easier for people to change their legal sex.

The misogyny lives on in some places, Gurufloof, but it was dead in the back-to-back and otherwise well rough area of Leeds in the late sixties. I have seen a man thrown out of a pub for offering insult to a woman on her own, back then and there. (When I say thrown out, I mean seat-and-scruff, head-first, rising as he passed the doorway -- someone had swiftly opened the door to let him through.)

Sorry Rooty. The tweet is a quote tweet from a person now trending on Twitter.

Their statement is attached. I will let you make your own conclusions.

It is easier to read on twitter on the original jpeg.

I read it, but I didn't get the significance

Times change :
Teachers were only stopped from smoking in class rooms in 2001
and staff rooms in 2006
and school offices in 2007

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 21:54

Apparently they think they may already be pregnant -- but that might be a joke at their expense...

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 22:16

This person certainly is stating they are a feminist, comparing their plight to suffrage. While seeming to infer that other feminists believe that feminism is a tea party with the queen Or a girlboss brunch with feminspirational CEO’s. This seems like a very misogynistic point of view to me.

Then they state how transmen are dying waiting for mastectomies while women getting breast reductions (which I believe is very rare to get on the NHS). The tone comes across rather hateful to those women getting breast reductions and HRT.

Puberty blockers have already been pointed out as being never proven to be fully reversible. Yet this person is stating they are.

For someone who says they are a feminist, there was nothing there that struck me about improving anything for females except transmen. But there was a lot of sly remarks about how good women have it in comparison to transpeople. And minimizing of women’s concerns as what was it ‘wealthy white’ women. Like no one else has the same concerns at all.

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 22:24

Also the language around women ‘wanting’ HRT like it is optional and not everyone on it needs it (despite their being recent shortages too and many women needing it to be able to work effectively and if your ovaries are not working whatever reason, there is no question it is a necessary medication).

And the minimising of just why women need breast reductions.... like it is again and optional thing.

This attitude reads as misogynistic to me. Men have been saying things like this for years. Male doctors too.

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 22:24

An optional (sorry)

Thewithesarehere · 30/01/2021 22:28

My husband says stuff like this to wind me up. Because he knows this is a highly misogynistic view of feminism. Usually from an overly entitled male.

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 22:36

Fucks sake.

I mean. The fact that the trans movement is like suffrage and feminists are drinking tea with the queen and attending power brunches. Really???

Gurufloof · 30/01/2021 22:36

Abigail thorn, of the tweet above has a large thread on the farms. They predicted this some time ago.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/01/2021 22:52

Funny how all these suddenly most oppressed ever yet very privileged white males still manage to retain every single ounce of their very male entitlement.

Their misogyny shines brighter than the sun.

You want to replace ‘oppression’ with ‘failure’. Barely anyone knows his name so he has to do something about it, right?

Such an interesting name, "Thorn". Doubly apt.

wordsinourmouths · 30/01/2021 23:43

Coming late to this thread as reading it has taken ages. I don’t understand why, if our feelings are so important, women’s feelings are not taken into account. I feel insulted and emotional when groups I have been in have divided over the one person who tells us theirfeelings are more important and we must centre them. That we can no longer talk about the topic because the other person has friends who are trans. I have friends who are women and I feel extremely emotional that the little we had has been colonized and appropriated , sometimes putting us in danger, wasting our time , and making demands that we should be kind, when nobody on the other side is being kind to the half of the population that takes shit every single day from the other half. We have had enough.
Thanks for continuing the thread withes

And where are the 8% who think that women should be banned from SM for speaking ?

They are all busy trying to dig out the JK Rowling quote that is supposedly buried somewhere in her volumes. Let them stay at it. They may have to face libel otherwise.

On a more serious note, the hopeless romantic in me thinks that the tide is turning and this lot can see it.

At secondary school across the middle of the 80s it was totally permitted for the teachers to hit us kids using a stick.

At my junior school a classmate (aged about 8/9) was hauled across the desk in front of me and put out of the window (it was ground floor). I remember very clearly because his foot caught me in the face in the way past. No one thought to say anything to parents or anyone else. Another boy (my friend’s brother) had his ear ripped so it bled by a teacher making a point.

Different times...

Re the whole ‘oppressed group’ claim, when a group has major influence on policy over every government department inc Scottish and Welsh govt, the BBC, the NHS, schools, the EHRC, Ofcom, CPS, the police, google, twitter, a claimed 25% of the entire uk workforce (Stonewalls claim of direct influence) - the policies are written in a way that is totally ignores safeguarding and is absolutely detrimental to women’s rights. I think a claim of ‘oppressed group’ is totally inaccurate.

Never has any tiny minority group had such extensive influence and the safeguarding breaches we keep seeing that are sanctioned at the top level of many orgs is unbelievable.
