would you smoke if there was zero negative health implications and no social stigma?

I did smoke in my late teens and early twenties. It's been many years now, I would never ever do it again but I did enjoy it at the time.. having a nice meal, maybe a drink and then stepping outside into the crisp night air and enjoying a cigarette while looking up at the night sky and contemplating life (okay I'm romanticising but just indulge me here).
I know it also stinks and is an extra cost. But I was wondering, if there was no stigma attached and definitely no negative effects on your health, those around you or the air quality around you.. a 'healthy' cigarette as it were... would you? My husband (also smoked in his youth) says he wouldn't. But i think I would!

Yes. I love smoking. Even without the health implications, social stigma and cost, it would still stink though.

userxx · 17/01/2021 21:22

Nope, the smell makes me gag. I used to smoke 20 a day 🤢

Whammyyammy · 17/01/2021 21:23

Yes., if zero health implications. But when I smoked I didn't realise how bad it makes you smell and the cost, i belive over £10 for a pack of 20.
As for social stigma, back when I smoked in 80s and 90s it wasn't frowned upon.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 17/01/2021 21:23

Hell yeah

Darbs76 · 17/01/2021 21:23

Yes as I really enjoyed smoking, I missed it a lot. Been 17yrs - the cost would have to be very small too as I’d be too tight to pay for them again

VestaTilley · 17/01/2021 21:24

No, what would be the point? It’s just a waste of money.

LunaNorth · 17/01/2021 21:24

Yes I bloody would.

luminar · 17/01/2021 21:25

100% yes.

I have been stopped (well, switched to vaping) for five years now but I still miss it. I'll sometimes buy a packet at Christmas or my birthday as a treat 🙈

Vaping is fine... I'm smoking bannoffee pie right now so can't really complain, but god do I miss the smell and the taste of cigarettes.

Pawpatrollers2021 · 17/01/2021 21:25

At one point I’d have said yes but now it makes me physically sick - I smoked for years and then socially for some time after stopping

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 17/01/2021 21:25

I would. I think like a previous poster said, it reminds me of being young and carefree. Back when I was going to live forever and didn’t worry about getting yellow teeth or harming the kids. I bloody love a cigarette with a black coffee in the mornings or sitting outside in the evening with a glass of wine. Vaping just isn’t the same.

trilbydoll · 17/01/2021 21:26

When you say zero health implications does that also include the aging effect on your skin? I would happily pay the financial price for the appetite suppression but not at the risk of looking 80 before I'm 40 Grin

ChipsWithThat · 17/01/2021 21:28

No, never. My mum is a lifelong smoker and her face, clothes , hands, everything stink. We also stank as kids because she smoked everywhere around the house. Also her skin aged so fast, she looks like a smoker. Horrible.

Whererainfalls · 17/01/2021 21:29

@Ponoka7

No, but if there was safe ecstasy about, I wouldn't say no, illegal or not.
I would be first in line for a safe E that didn't have any risk attached. I loved it so much. If I live to 90, I'm definitely having one for my 90th birthday. Grin I would smoke again only if it didn't have any negative health implications and wasn't addictive. I would love to be one of those people who only smoke one on special occasions.
VanillaAndOrange · 17/01/2021 21:30

Probably not. I've tried it twice and really disliked the sensation at the time and how my throat felt the next day. The puzzle for me is how people manage to overcome those first impressions and get addicted in the first place.

Flibbitygibbit · 17/01/2021 21:30

Wrecks your skin and teeth and makes you stink 🤢

namechangetogamechange · 17/01/2021 21:31

Yes. All day long

DianaT1969 · 17/01/2021 21:31

Stinky hair and clothes
Stinky breath
Yellow teeth
More wrinkles
Hmmm...

Chalkcheese · 17/01/2021 21:31

For me it's that feeling of needing a cigarette I would never go back to. Nicotine addiction is horrible.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 17/01/2021 21:32

Ew no. Tastes vile and stinks.

Chalkcheese · 17/01/2021 21:32

Also it fucking stinks!

redsquirrelfan · 17/01/2021 21:34

I wouldn't smoke because of the cost, the fact it ages you and makes your teeth and skin go yellow. Even if it didn't trash your lungs and arteries.

ChristOnAPeloton · 17/01/2021 21:38

Depends if anyone had still felt the need to invent vaping. I much prefer the taste of blueberry or lime slush to smoke.

Would definitely do one or the other tho.

EuphieKat · 17/01/2021 21:38

No, I genuinely don’t get the attraction!

Spaceman1 · 17/01/2021 21:39

Yes, yes, yes! I remember my boss once saying he couldn't understand why people smoke because it smells so gross and I explained people don't some for the taste they smoke for the feeling.

SilverLiningSearching · 17/01/2021 21:39

Yes I would be slim again, been a porker ever since I quit, smoking is definitely an appetite suppressant.
