would you smoke if there was zero negative health implications and no social stigma?

I did smoke in my late teens and early twenties. It's been many years now, I would never ever do it again but I did enjoy it at the time.. having a nice meal, maybe a drink and then stepping outside into the crisp night air and enjoying a cigarette while looking up at the night sky and contemplating life (okay I'm romanticising but just indulge me here).
I know it also stinks and is an extra cost. But I was wondering, if there was no stigma attached and definitely no negative effects on your health, those around you or the air quality around you.. a 'healthy' cigarette as it were... would you? My husband (also smoked in his youth) says he wouldn't. But i think I would!

Yes. As pp said the best appetite suppressant and I miss the social side of it. I had some right laughs going out for a cigarette. I haven't smoked for nearly twenty years and still really miss it.

73kittycat73 · 17/01/2021 20:45

Yes. I gave up in 2009 and still miss it. In fact I often dream that I've 'accidently' slipped back into smoking and either I've got no money and the shops are open or I have the money but the shops are shut!

WhoWants2Know · 17/01/2021 20:46

Hell yes. I was generally a happier and more productive person when I smoked.

RJnomore1 · 17/01/2021 20:49

Yes. I really liked smoking. You’re not supposed to say that though.

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 17/01/2021 20:49

The Friends episode where Rachel pretended to smoke as she was missing out as everyone was socialising outside whilst smoking. Grin

Yakkadeeee · 17/01/2021 20:49

God yes, I so miss it. Has been a few years and I’d only really have a couple with a drink, but I loved it. Sat on my balcony with a few glasses of wine, music and looking up at the night sky, just as you described, I crave it often.
I don’t drink now either. Life is pretty dull

ShetlandWife · 17/01/2021 20:51

No, it's still waste of money with no benefit to me or anyone else.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 17/01/2021 20:52

No - it still stinks....

AndcalloffChristmas · 17/01/2021 20:54

What is the cost in this scenario?

I probably would if all the things you said were true and it was free/ cheap!

yearinyearout · 17/01/2021 20:55

No. Makes breath, hair, and clothes stink. Smokers seem to think they can get rid of it by popping a polo or a bit of chewing gum but it doesn't work.

Petitmum · 17/01/2021 20:57

No way. Smoke stinks!!!!

tinkerbellvspredator · 17/01/2021 20:57

No because I've never smoked a cigarette so what would be the attraction - nicotine high?

itchyfinger · 17/01/2021 20:57

Socially, yes. I used to smoke a lot in my teens and 20s but very easily gave up when it wasnt as easy for me to get my hands on cigs and I wasnt around my friends anymore. Made me realise i was very much a social smoker and never addicted.

Now I feel sick if I smoke, and that does make me feel a bit sad on (pre covid) nights out when I have had a few Wine

StrawBeretMoose · 17/01/2021 20:57

I was discussing 'end of lockdown fantasies' earlier with a friend, we both stopped smoking years ago, both imaginary nights out involved smoking on a terrace looking out at sea.

I loved smoking, I don't do the odd sneaky cig as it would be a slippery slope.
Even using a lighter to light a candle triggers the urge.
The cost wouldn't be a big deterrent, I never smoked loads.
I'm imagining these healthy socially acceptable cigarettes don't leave you stinking of smoke.

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 17/01/2021 20:58

Yes if it wasn’t for the health implications I’d do it again a heartbeat don’t give a shit about social stigma. I miss smoking.

ComDummings · 17/01/2021 20:59

Yep

Spottybluepyjamas · 17/01/2021 21:00

Absolutely - I quit a long time ago, but the urge still strikes me occasionally!

Mintjulia · 17/01/2021 21:03

No. It still smells awful, and makes everything around dirty.

hollyhope · 17/01/2021 21:09

Yes I would.
Stopped 17 years ago after smoking for 25 years.
Nothing has ever matched that satisfied pleasure.

PattyPan · 17/01/2021 21:10

Nope, smells awful and I don’t see the attraction!

BrokenCircle · 17/01/2021 21:11

Yes I think I would. I gave up about 15 years ago and still miss it now and again.

CalmDownBoris72 · 17/01/2021 21:12

Yes, definitely

Connelloni · 17/01/2021 21:13

A million percent yes.

oohmyback · 17/01/2021 21:17

Yes...I love smoking!

ThatDamnKrampus · 17/01/2021 21:18

I'm intrigued to know how many saying no, have ever been smokers? (Nothing goady just generally curious)
