would you smoke if there was zero negative health implications and no social stigma?

I did smoke in my late teens and early twenties. It's been many years now, I would never ever do it again but I did enjoy it at the time.. having a nice meal, maybe a drink and then stepping outside into the crisp night air and enjoying a cigarette while looking up at the night sky and contemplating life (okay I'm romanticising but just indulge me here).
I know it also stinks and is an extra cost. But I was wondering, if there was no stigma attached and definitely no negative effects on your health, those around you or the air quality around you.. a 'healthy' cigarette as it were... would you? My husband (also smoked in his youth) says he wouldn't. But i think I would!

Absolutely yes!

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 17/01/2021 20:12

I don't like the stench of it all on your fingers and in your hair so no probably not

DiscoJanet · 17/01/2021 20:12

@Mollyboom

Absolutely- one of the best appetite suppressants there is, and it was a really social activity. I really miss it.
This, 100%

I miss smoking but haven’t done so in 20 years. I would still smoke except for a health and b the tax imposed on by the govt. too frigging expensive abd the restrictions about where you can’t smoke have sucked the joy out of it

seepingweeping · 17/01/2021 20:13

Ex smoker here - wouldn't touch another one. I hate it.

Danni91 · 17/01/2021 20:13

Absolutely would

tttigress · 17/01/2021 20:14

Yes, when drinking.

But even when I was a smoker, I found the stall smoke smell pretty bad, after a night if smoking about 40 cigarettes!!

Royalty2k · 17/01/2021 20:14

Yes especially when drinking

AliasGrape · 17/01/2021 20:14

God yes. I miss it.

I never got the reformed smoker abhorrence for the smell either - if I smell someone smoking now I just feel jealous Blush When my best mate or I see someone smoking on tv we always say ‘lucky bastards’. We have a plan to start again in our 80s (not really - well
maybe not really anyway).

DeeCeeCherry · 17/01/2021 20:14

Yes, I would. I enjoy smoking. I've been Vaping since giving up cigarettes a couple of years ago. I don't miss me/house smelling of cigarette smoke and discovery that the smoke makes windows filthy though

Thankgoodness1 · 17/01/2021 20:14

Most definitely

Ponoka7 · 17/01/2021 20:14

No, but if there was safe ecstasy about, I wouldn't say no, illegal or not.

Imissmoominmama · 17/01/2021 20:16

No- it stinks!

LilQueenie · 17/01/2021 20:16

no its disgusting. You can smell it even over perfume and I avoid people like this because it makes me gag. I'm not saying those who smoke are bad people its just the effect the habit itself has on me.

VinylDetective · 17/01/2021 20:16

In a heartbeat. I gave up in 2012 but when we go on holiday where cigarettes are a reasonable price I smoke a few a day until we come home.

umpteennamechanges · 17/01/2021 20:16

No, it smells and makes breath taste horrible:

Plus yellow fingers and teeth.

And cost.

For what gain?

I don't get it personally.

lubeybooby · 17/01/2021 20:17

former 40 a day smoker here, quit for my health.. so if no health implications then yes I would be straight back on them... probably more. Absolute chainer!

Bloodybridget · 17/01/2021 20:17

No, I did smoke (roll-ups) for a few years when I was young, but I couldn't bear to now.

MrsDoctorDear · 17/01/2021 20:17

Yes if they were 50p a packet.
I miss my menthol Karelia Slims!

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 17/01/2021 20:19

Never smoked, but I remember seeing a girl at uni looking very sophisticated smoking jet black cigarettes with gold paper on, with Jackie O glasses and a short black fur coat (I am a lifelong veggie) and thinking, 'If it wasn't bad for you, I would take it up to look that glam.' I was a very young 18 yo.

Lou573 · 17/01/2021 20:21

Would it still be addictive? I would if I could just have the one at opportune moments but wouldn’t want to go back to constantly wondering when I can nip out for my next one!

mynameiscalypso · 17/01/2021 20:21

God yes. I was never a proper smoker but used to love standing outside a bar with a fag and a glass of wine, putting the world to rights. I haven't smoked in years and years but have days when I'd kill for one.

umpteennamechanges · 17/01/2021 20:22

When people say they 'miss it'?

Miss what?

What is it about it that you miss?

I genuinely don't get it so interested to understand...

My understanding is that nicotine does nothing for you at all...that it only feels 'good' once you're addicted because it's satisfying a craving. So what's the point at the beginning?

KathleenTurnerOverdrive · 17/01/2021 20:23

Probably only after sex, so 20 a day?

Thedogscollar · 17/01/2021 20:23

Based on the stench and how much it costs No.
