Housemate ate my bday cake

Fuming! I was sent a small birthday cake and had about an 1/8 of it, seeing a friend for a walk tomorrow so was going to share some with them. I offered some to my housemate and went up to bad. They have had half and all the happy birthday writing is missing. It’s not massive but surely you just take a nibble and leave the rest for the birthday girl/boy. So so pissed off. It’s a bit shit being single and having a bday in a pandemic anyway I am annoyed about this. Should I say something/make a joke?

But what flavour was the cake????

Suaf · 09/01/2021 23:09

Next time they get a cake just do the same.
Say ooh lovely.
Chop the cake 3/4 way through and leave the 1/4.

I bet they have a fit.
Piggy types get angry when the tables are turned.
They prob wouldn't offer you any if they had a cake.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 09/01/2021 23:35

OP, I voted YABU. I take it back entirely, because you have made me laugh my tits off. You are entirely right - little things become big things at the moment. I nearly lost my shit at the DC when I realised they'd eaten 3/4 of my bag of Revels - and I NEVER buy myself chocolate, so I was especially annoyed they'd taken all of the toffee ones.

Hope you had as good a birthday as possible Cake

HighSpecWhistle · 09/01/2021 23:40

Who eats half of someone bday cake however big or small it is. It's polite to take a small proportion.

YANBU but I don't see what mentioning it will do now except cause an awkward atmosphere.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 09/01/2021 23:40

Also, it remains a family legend how ExP ate ALL of DS's birthday cake. Literally ALL of it. DS was too stuffed after birthday tea to have a slice, so I said 'ok, we'll keep it for later.' Fucking, fucking, fucking ExP ate ALL of it that night. And it was not a small cake.

I should have LTB there & then.

diamondsr4u · 09/01/2021 23:44

They obviously didn't know you had plans to share with a friend next day. Should've told them that. Should've cut a small slice for them. You had a tiny bit, housemate prob thought your not too keen on it and so wouldn't mind them having the amount they did.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/01/2021 23:48

Do you just seek out threads that have absolutely no relevance to your life and then post on them?
It’s like the people who answer questions about products on Amazon to say they don’t know.

Lesson learned OP. Don’t offer again. Deffo get yourself another cake. Happy Birthday!

Honeylemontea · 09/01/2021 23:53

Shouldn't have offered Wink

Ineedaduvetday · 10/01/2021 08:00

Some people have no self control when given access to a food they like as a treat.

Justa47 · 10/01/2021 17:27

@Urghfuming

They owe you a cake. Simple.

iwishiwasatcentralperk · 10/01/2021 17:35

YANBU, your housemate was being very greedy to take half the cake.

At least you know for another time, just cut them off a slice and put the rest away.

Tessabelle74 · 10/01/2021 17:39

If you had a portion size in mind, you should have cut it up into portions, or sliced them a piece and given it to them. I think YABU for that reason

Sinful8 · 10/01/2021 17:40

Perhaps they thought you didn't have anyone to share it with so it would end up going to waste if they just nibbled

Tessabelle74 · 10/01/2021 17:43

Aaargh posted too soon! That being said, next time I had cake, I'd have an extra one just for them with exlax icing, I hate those that take more than a polite slice.

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 10/01/2021 17:48

Is this a common occurrence with other foods or a one off?

If it’s a regular occurrence then say something. If it’s a one off then just get over it.

You should have offered housemate cake and if said yes cut them some then put rest away.

Dasher789 · 10/01/2021 18:40

YABU. If someone offered me some cake, I would either take some or not take some. I wouldn't take a nibble?!

queenofSI · 10/01/2021 19:04

@aesher you deserved that roasting to be fair

Crumbleandcake · 10/01/2021 19:08

I think it was greedy. I can't stand greedy people.

justuskul · 10/01/2021 19:09

Are you house mateGrin

Buffs · 10/01/2021 19:17

You should have cut them a slice.

Annieconn · 10/01/2021 19:50

I agree with the birthday op, think housemate should have cut a normal slice and left the rest. Sounds like housemate was being greedy.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 10/01/2021 19:56

You normally cut peices off for friends
