Housemate ate my bday cake

Urghfuming · 09/01/2021 01:57

Fuming! I was sent a small birthday cake and had about an 1/8 of it, seeing a friend for a walk tomorrow so was going to share some with them. I offered some to my housemate and went up to bad. They have had half and all the happy birthday writing is missing. It’s not massive but surely you just take a nibble and leave the rest for the birthday girl/boy. So so pissed off. It’s a bit shit being single and having a bday in a pandemic anyway I am annoyed about this. Should I say something/make a joke?

Lighten up , you are being a princess

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 09/01/2021 08:08

I have an image of the housemate sat in the kitchen, with a lump in their torso the size of a spacehopper. Quietly digesting their spoils like a snake.

ukmail · 09/01/2021 08:12

Maybe half of this small tray bake was roughly the size of a normal slice of cake?

Umm everyone is having a birthday in a pandemic, don’t play the victim. If you birthday doesn’t happen it’s because you didn’t make it

BiscuitTea · 09/01/2021 08:31

Stop playing the victim OP. I'm sorry you're having a shit birthday but this is a non event.
You offered cake
Flat mate ate cake
Don't be an arse to your flat mate. You will make it awkward and then you will have to apologise.

MinnieJackson · 09/01/2021 08:48

Did they know you were taking some for your friend?

Quartz2208 · 09/01/2021 08:50

OP this was your fault in failing to communicate as you say it was small and 1/2 would not a silly portion. They clearly thought you meant to share it with them so took their portion and left yours

What would be the point of a nibble?

Winter2020 · 09/01/2021 08:54

I’m guessing a small traybake is about £4 assuming it was from a supermarket. Buy a new one to eat with your friend.

....but precut the slices so they are ready to eat- and have someone on look out for police as “no picnics allowed”. As only 2 people are allowed to meet so you will have to be look out while your friend eats and vice versa. And keep moving - no stopping allowed.

I hope you and your friend manage to enjoy your catch up and have a laugh in this mad mad time. Happy Birthday.

Thingsthatgo · 09/01/2021 08:55

Ate the writing Grin I have heard it all now! I know times are hard at the moment, but you will look back at this and laugh at how ridiculous it is.
You offered them cake. You didn’t say ‘please don’t eat the Happy Birthday, because that is my absolute favourite bit’!

LimeTreeGrove · 09/01/2021 08:58

I'm a greedy bastard but I wouldn't take half of someone else's cake, even if that was a normal sized portion YANBU

KatherineJaneway · 09/01/2021 09:14

Exactly how 'small' is a small cake?

Powerbunting · 09/01/2021 09:36

How big is a small tray bake that has room for happy birthday on only half?

You say it isn't an unreasonable sized portion. So are you annoyed at how much they ate or which bit they ate?

DahliaMacNamara · 09/01/2021 09:45

What sort of weight was this cake? I can't see why you would offer a piece to your flatmate if it was such a teensy little morsel it would only really feed 1 or 2. If they ate almost half of a normal sized birthday traybake, the kind that's clearly intended for sharing, then YANBU.

BrumBoo · 09/01/2021 09:50

So to recap this intense drama:

You get a small but shareable cake.

You offer slice to housemate.

Housemate takes wrong slice.

You are so fummin that you have to start an MN account stating how fummin you are at stupid am.

Alrighty then.

Ate the writing...wow, I'd forgotten all about that, seeing as it was a thing when we were 5.

squeezeapplesmakejuice · 09/01/2021 10:03

You offered them cake. Sorry but yabu

squeezeapplesmakejuice · 09/01/2021 10:06

Can you just go to Asda and buy another cake? Using icing pens if you would like some writing on it.

Chloemol · 09/01/2021 10:08

You offered, they took you up on it. You still have the rest to share. You could have cut them a piece?

Ok it’s a birthday and you are in your own ( except you are not because your housemate is there), you can still call your friends, zoom etc

Just grow up

FrangipaniBlue · 09/01/2021 10:12

I don't know why the OP is getting a hard time, the housemate was a massive greedy cheeky fucker!!

If someone offers you a piece of their birthday cake you don't help yourself to HALF of it!!!!

If the cake had birthday writing on it then let's face it, it wasn't so small that half of it constitutes a reasonable one person portion Confused

There are some bloody bonkers threads on here this morning Hmm

Puffalicious · 09/01/2021 10:15

Are you under 8? Otherwise you're being so unreasonable. Grow up.

YouBeYou · 09/01/2021 10:18

Anyone else think we need a diagram?

pictish · 09/01/2021 10:26

I think a diagram would be most apt...with measurements too so we can really get to the core of the matter.

pictish · 09/01/2021 10:27

Oh and a proportionate recreation of the writing too. Ta.
