Housemate ate my bday cake

Fuming! I was sent a small birthday cake and had about an 1/8 of it, seeing a friend for a walk tomorrow so was going to share some with them. I offered some to my housemate and went up to bad. They have had half and all the happy birthday writing is missing. It’s not massive but surely you just take a nibble and leave the rest for the birthday girl/boy. So so pissed off. It’s a bit shit being single and having a bday in a pandemic anyway I am annoyed about this. Should I say something/make a joke?

Ok @WaltzesWithSnobs youre on. Do I say anything or are we going by motto never apologise (housemate), never explain (me)

@Urghfuming

You told her to, don’t complain when she does. Your updates don’t stop you from sounding any less mental.

Urghfuming · 09/01/2021 13:31

@Lookslikerainted the oracle has spoken. I am duly silenced.

@1forAll74

I would be pleased if someone ate any cakes that were bought for me, as I don't eat cakes at all.
Do you just seek out threads that have absolutely no relevance to your life and then post on them?! Grin

"Neighbour parking outside my house, AIBU?"
"I don't drive and I live alone on an oil rig, so why are you asking me about this?"

"AIBU to ask for your best soup recipes?"
"I am a mayfly and have no mouth. I would love to be able to eat soup."

pictish · 09/01/2021 13:45

😆

@WaltzesWithSnobs 😂

Diagram doesn't match your initial post, OP ;)

You started by saying you ate 1/8, then they ate half of what was left.

In your diagram, you ate 2/8, they ate three quarters of what was left.

Did they eat more than half of what was left or not?

If they ate half or less, I'd say it was reasonable as they could well have thought you meant to share the cake (seeing as there's only two of you living there and it was a small tray bake). If they ate more than half, it's a bit greedy, I wouldn't have done it, but again, it depends on what you said to them when your offered.

The 'eating the writing' is, as other people have said, not normal for a grown woman to be bothered about.

HeronLanyon · 09/01/2021 13:56

Thank you for the exhibit ! It has changed my previous ‘YANBU’ slightly and subtly.

  1. She took quite a bit !
  2. If it had been me I may have taken the far end leaving you with more central letters of your name.
However 2 is problematic by cutting the other end I would dry it out more. Also if it was still in a tray of some sort getting that far end out may have damaged what was left. Complex. Will ponder on about this vital issue. Grin

You'll get nae sympathy on here!! Ive just been roasted for daring to moan about being a nurse and having a bored friend!! Hope you have your hard hat on!
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 09/01/2021 13:56

Well, I've studied your diagram at length and I am just wondering, although I fully expect you to deny it... You're Banksy aren't you?

aesher · 09/01/2021 13:58

@Urghfuming

Ok thanks all clearly I’m not thinking with the most reasonable of minds right now.i won’t say anything and will forgive the heinous act of eating my bday cake writing (#sob)

I am already looking at getting a contract drawn up for next year 😉

For those who want a diagram - see attached! Writing is an artistic interpretation of actual writing. Small traybake dimensions are 25cm x 18cm and my slice was approx a third the size of my housemates.

Enjoy and yes IABVU

@Urghfuming

Great 😊

Urghfuming · 09/01/2021 14:02

@JesusInTheCabbageVan that is hilarious!!! 😂

@HeronLanyon THAT is the kind of thoughtful analysis i came to MN for. Thank you. And yes that is the gravity I would have given to the issue! I also would have taken the non writing end thus giving birthday person optimum enjoyment re eating their own name. Kind of equivalent to eating the face of the caterpillar. Bday girl rights and all that.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles Busted!

You know that thing when you see a word so often it starts to lose any sort of meaning? That's the way I feel with the words "greedy pig" right now.

CaMePlaitPas · 09/01/2021 14:04

@snowisfallingallaroundus

Was it a cream cake?

Are you Claire?

Stop. I nearly spat my drink out.

This cake is no where near as identifying as yesterday's cream cake.

pictish · 09/01/2021 14:04

“You'll get nae sympathy on here!! Ive just been roasted for daring to moan about being a nurse and having a bored friend!! Hope you have your hard hat on!‘

That’s not quite why you were roasted though is it? With respect, you were being a dick. It’s ok...sometimes I’m a dick too. I relate.

Cherrysoup · 09/01/2021 14:13

She (he?) was greedy and took way too much. I’m too much of a pig myself to offer round cake. I’d have shoved it somewhere out of sight and kept it for the walk with my mate. Lesson learned, eh?

Sparklesocks · 09/01/2021 14:15

I caught your housemate on film OP

Housemate ate my bday cake
GingerNorthernLass · 09/01/2021 14:33

I would be very tempted to buy the flatmate a Percy Pig cake for their next Birthday!

Happy Birthday by the way!

AliceinBunniland · 09/01/2021 14:53

You were outraged that your fiend dared to tell you she was bored and asked for Netflix recommendations

You were told in no uncertain terms YWBU!

AliceinBunniland · 09/01/2021 14:54

Meant to quote

You'll get nae sympathy on here!! Ive just been roasted for daring to moan about being a nurse and having a bored friend!! Hope you have your hard hat on!

You were being unreasonable and had an attitude that people didn't agree with you!

I don't think OP is unreasonable any where near to the same degree and I think flatmate was piggy!

Grumpasaurus · 09/01/2021 15:22

Ha ha op, this thread and your diagram have brought me great joy today!

I have this idea of what happened, based entirely on what might have happened if I were your housemate (fairly confident I am not, though I have been surprised before).

You went to bed after offering cake. Housemate originally took a reasonable sliver. Cake was too good. Had another reasonable sliver slightly later. Still too good. Another reasonable sliver later on still. So long later, in fact, it became difficult to gauge EXACTLY how much they had eaten...

This morning, housemate thinks "fuck I ate half the cake. Best style it out by saying nothing and hopefully she won't notice".

That happens to me with tray bakes a lot...

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/01/2021 15:32

@MessAllOver

I would have made sure to leave at least as much as I took.
This is good for someone's birthday. But if you carry that on, you end up with Zeno's paradox. Best to avoid angry, hungry philosophers.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeno%27s_paradoxes

Philosophy humour? Laughed? I almost did.
