To not want my son to play Among Us any more after discovering this

My 8 year old recently started playing this game with his friends. It has skyrocketed in popularity recently. I was fine with this because although it isnt educational, it is social and arguably teaches important life skills. However, whilst watching him running around the Skeld sabotaging stuff it occurred to me.... Everyone in the game is wearing spacesuits with bulky oxygen packs on their backs. However, if the oxygen is sabotaged and they dont fix it in time then everyone dies. WHY? If the spacesuits arent actually doing anything then why cant they take them of and check to see who is the murderous alien. If the spacesuits are doing something then why does everyone panic when the oxygen goes of.
I could overlook the leaves in the garbage disposal since maybe they are space-leaves, but everytime I watch him play now I get incredibly annoyed.
So AIBU to delete the app on the grounds of its shocking lack of realism and logic???

Maybe the spacesuits carry supplemental oxygen, hence why they have some time after its sabotaged but not loads

YABU as they are not people inside of spacesuits. They are creatures that happen to be in the vague shape of a space suit. It's actually just part of their anatomy. These creatures have just one singular bone in their body as can be seen when one is killed.

Well then, why do they need oxygen in the first place? It seems a huge coinicidence they need to breath the same air as us. Also, I can accept that they might be spacesuit shaped - but with a visor and backpack too??? Far to farfetched and unlikely.

Lions need to breathe the same air as us, but they aren’t human shaped.

Also ET seemed to be fairly reliant on oxygen too, if I recall correctly.

Personally I'd let him play. He's going through enough at the moment with no school, no physical interaction with friends, having to stay at home (and in the constant spotlight of his parents' gaze..). You're clearly a good and interested parent, so I think he'd be fine as long as you keep an eye on who he's playing with. I'm assuming he's playing with friends.

HOWEVER, I just stopped my 7 year old playing because he was on the laptop, and I don't know who he is playing with (random strangers, because as you know they play in online groups) so I was watching over his shoulder, and one of the other kids (i presume a child, but who knows!) said in a message 'fucking crap' and 'stupid homo'. So that's turned off, and tomorrow I'll have to pretend the laptop is broken and hope he forgets the game.....because he's not going back on it until he's older and gets friends to play with...

They are from earth though. For the spacesuit-shaped alien theory to hold then they would need to be from another planet

I think kids can play it on roblox. I wouldn't let mine play on the app. Its definitely not for kids with the kind of chat that happens.

@ClaireP20 just FYI you can turn on censor chat which takes out the swear words (even things like "cockpit" gets changed to "**pit" and it seems fairly thorough, but I tend to watch him play closely anyway (and get over invested) if I do let him play the public games. I think quite a lot of teenagers and adults play too so definately not a "safe" environment as such. What does need watching is some of the Among Us youtube videos - some of them are completely child friendly, some contain swearing and some are wierd AF.

This is my actual strategy when playing and I'm the imposter, first person to rightly accuse me gets the wide-eyed "guilty conscience, much?" turnaround. Then I hide in electrical, aka The Murder Hole, and whack them next round.

Almost always he plays private games with friends, but I would still keep the censor chat setting on and keep an eye on the game because you could get random gatecrashers sometimes (same as for zoom etc)

ET could survive in our air. I cant remember any evidence that he needed oxygen to breath (I know he got sick at one point and was on a life support thingy but I dont think that proves anything. That was the scientists doing and it didnt seem to help him much)

yes, and also people being wierd with each other. I would only let him play in public rooms if I am interferring supervising, and have the censor chat on whereas if he is playing with friends/family I am around but happier to get on with stuff while he plays. I will look into playing on roblox as an alternative though...

Why not join the game and play it with him OP? It’s a fun game and there’s no private chat/personal details, so quite safe really considering it’s online.

I also hate being imposter. Elec when the lights are out is even worse! I always know DS2 is the imposter if lights keep turning off. Its his kill technique!

Someone lied about seeing me kill once. I got ejected, but as they'd lied they then got ejected. They then told me in the ghost chat thing they did it on purpose because "you're a fucking bitch". Absolutely no idea what I did to piss them off, but they continued to insult me for the remainder of the game Hmm
