To not want my son to play Among Us any more after discovering this

My 8 year old recently started playing this game with his friends. It has skyrocketed in popularity recently. I was fine with this because although it isnt educational, it is social and arguably teaches important life skills. However, whilst watching him running around the Skeld sabotaging stuff it occurred to me.... Everyone in the game is wearing spacesuits with bulky oxygen packs on their backs. However, if the oxygen is sabotaged and they dont fix it in time then everyone dies. WHY? If the spacesuits arent actually doing anything then why cant they take them of and check to see who is the murderous alien. If the spacesuits are doing something then why does everyone panic when the oxygen goes of.
I could overlook the leaves in the garbage disposal since maybe they are space-leaves, but everytime I watch him play now I get incredibly annoyed.
So AIBU to delete the app on the grounds of its shocking lack of realism and logic???

Yes, you can often tell by the names whether the people are going to be "normal(ish)" or not. Not just swear words, anything like "hotgirl" etc and you just leave the lobby.

@VeganSven I kind of already do. And sometimes after hes asleep . thats how I figured out the oxygen paradox.

my son plays this. DH has switched off the chat function (not sure how) which means he can't really chat to his friends. It does frustrate him but its safer that way.
having read this though, I'll double check his settings.

Haha good for you...it’s quite good fun. I’m going to always think about the oxygen paradox now though!

when playing with friends they can connect over zoom etc anyway which is more fun than just text based discussions

How can you play without being able to chat? You need to discuss who you think is imposter or not

Its much easier playing over zoom. You can say so much more so don't have to worry so much about time limits !

I usually head to elec first (via the left of cafe, as I always find it interesting to see who goes straight to security) to get my tasks over with whilst most others go to admin. Lessens the chances of a stack kill. Doesn't always work though.

And I get irrationally angry when people vote someone out based on someone naming a random colour, without discussing a reason, or listening when anyone says they've seen them do a visual task 😡

I don't believe there is a way to switch chat off. And I'd vote out your DS just for not getting involved in discussion - that's the whole point of the game

That makes me angry too @DumplingsAndStew. I don't vote people out unless someone actually gives me a reason. So just saying "green" won't cut it.

We would also vote someone out for not contributing to the chat. Its annoying.

I did get accused of being "salty" for about 3 rounds a while ago. Someone said they saw me vent on cams. I genuinely didn't vent, but annoyingly was imp. So of course it looked like I lied about not venting. He then spent 3 rounds saying "awww. Are you still salty yellow" and "yellow got caught lying and now she's salty"
Eventually ds kicked him from the game because it was annoying.

My dc also ban people for homophobic or racist language.

I allow DS to play only when he's playing with a real life friend and they are talking/strategising/cheating together via Messenger. Way too busy talking to be bothered with the online chat function.

Off topic but my favourite thing is when someone kills me early and I can just run around undisturbed doing all my tasks. Thats all I really care about. My son is the opposite and never bothers to do tasks he just runs around doing nowt and its deeply annoying to me.

This was my first time playing it, my son invited me to play it was quite good fun actually

Me too. We played a while ago, me and my dc, some of their friends and one girls dad. Me and the dad were both killed and had a lovely chat in ghost chat about how peaceful it was being dead

Either people being called salty is a common thing for the same reason or I might have been in those games 🤣

I somehow also get wrongly accused of murder or venting when I happen to be an impostor, but innocent.

I love doing the tasks! I get irrationally annoyed when I'm in the middle of one and someone hits the emergency meeting button - just let me finish uploading my data dammit! 😡😂

Salty is an Americanism and we play on NA servers a lot because they are busier than the EU ones.
Yea I always seem to get accused of venting/killing when I'm genuinely innocent but also an imp. So annoying!

@WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo I would be quite content if the afterlife was actually like that though. Except for being summoned to emergency meetings which are pointless because you cant talk or vote. But otherwise loveliness.

I've just found there's a 'freeplay' mode so you can run around and do tasks without being killed

My Mum printed a map off so when we get to the discussion bit she can work out where she was

Id float around my murderers head and they wouldnt know I was there but I would and it would be fun. Then Id float through some walls to see what everyone else was up to, maybe help out in the odd emergency.
