To be peed off with Tesco

My Tesco delivery was today. I had until 11.45pm last night to edit my order. I successfully placed my order at 10.30pm and received the order confirmation email. This morning only half a dozen items were delivered, which are the items I put in the basket last week when I booked the slot. Nothing I added yesterday has arrived.

I called to complain and there’s a recorded message saying due to technical issues if you added items to an order yesterday it wasn’t saved and you won’t be charged for the missing items. No offer of a replacement delivery. I can’t book a replacement delivery because there are no slots for weeks. No click and collect slots either. It’s literally the first day of lockdown and the first day of shielding, and god knows how many people haven’t received their food.

I’ve noticed a lot of errors with previous orders but I put it down to me ordering at night when I’m tired. Now I think they must have ongoing issues with their website but this is the first time they’ve acknowledged it.

Regarding the Tesco website, I've found in recent months it doesn't work properly if you use multiple tabs. I would often have favourites in one tab and open item details, 'rest of shelf', or a special offer in another tab. But I found that now the items you try to add that way don't reliably get added. It used to work.

LochDooner69 · 05/01/2021 14:51

You should be giving any and all key workers you see the clap, not critiquing wot they put in your basket!!!!!! Some people so selfish god give me strength ....and antibodies.

Meh21 · 05/01/2021 14:53

A friend has had similar today due to technical issues.

StepBackPlease · 05/01/2021 14:56

This happened to us last night - finalised a £147 shop at 10pm for delivery this evening, received a text from Tesco earlier saying we might not receive everything we ordered. I have the confirmation email in my inbox with the whole shop itemised but went back to check on the app and it's only showing 22 items on the order (which was an earlier version of the basket from where I'd added a few more bits yesterday morning).

Annoying but thankfully I was able to go to a Tesco store round the corner from my work and get all the nappies, wipes and other essentials that hadn't saved in the basket!

Not much to be done about it unfortunately - if you're really struggling and can't go out I'd contact your parish council as most areas have volunteers dropping shopping etc.

I feel sorry for the delivery drivers who will likely get a mouthful of abuse today...

Londontown12 · 05/01/2021 14:59

Just out of curiosity who here absolutely has to get their shopping delivered and cannot go to their local supermarket because of shielding ect ?
Because in my mind if your ok and safe to go supermarket why don’t u leave the slits for delivery for those that actually need them (just my opinion)

I get home delivery and will continue because I’m a single parent you can’t win really. there was a post on my local Facebook yesterday saying parents shouldn’t bring kids to the supermarket either.

Floralnomad · 05/01/2021 15:05

I had issues with the Tesco app yesterday when amending my order , a couple of times it said it couldn’t update the basket . I’m not sure why there is the mad rush to book online slots the supermarkets are still open and if people were happy to go in them before today I really can’t see why they don’t want to go in them now .

This exactly , for some of us it’s not a case of if it doesn’t come you can pop out and get it , it’s a case of if it doesn’t come you either go without or get someone else to get it .

I don’t think going around giving people “the clap” is what we need tbh Wink
Rosebel · 05/01/2021 15:09

People who are moaning about you orders should try being a delivery driver or working in a supermarket in the middle of a pandemic.
They aren't messing your order up for a laugh or because they want a mouthful of abuse. Try and have a bit of empathy for people putting themselves and their families at risk for your benefit.

I've been an online grocery customer for most of the last decade. Since the early rush in March I've had no trouble getting slots. I've been able to shop in the evening for delivery the next day many times. There's no shortage.

And remember, almost anyone with a delivery today will have booked it when the official government line was everything is fine, schools will stay open, etc etc.

Next week I'll find out whether lockdown 3 has changed delivery availability, of course.

Treacletreacle · 05/01/2021 15:13

Another problem that tesco seem to be having is drivers running out of time. My order failed to turn up before Christmas and luckily I called customer service to check. After about an hour she called to say someone was bringing out my order. Thankfully I'm not far from the depot. The guy who dropped my order off said its happening more often where the more experienced fed up drivers are just taking orders back if they run out of time. My order paper work had ran out of time wrote on the top. I would imagine if I hadn't called I certainly wouldn't have got my order that night.

msby · 05/01/2021 15:24

Just checked our click and collect on the back of this post. DH is already on his way to get it. We have 3 items listed as opposed to the 92 ordered and confirmed yesterday. According to the website 2 of them are out of stock with no alternative given.

If that's aimed at me, we had the slot booked because we all had Covid over Christmas (including my 2 year old) and weren't sure if we would be well enough to go out and do a food shop after we finished isolating. We'll now be taking it in turns to go out in the evening and shop when the supermarkets are quiet, despite still paying for our delivery saver subscription.

Is that a satisfactory answer? Hmm

planningaheadtoday · 05/01/2021 15:37

Our Asda have wall to wall availability for click and collect.

I'm shielding but I can say the click and collect contact free collection from Asda as a back up has recently been great.

You do need the app downloaded as it tracks you so your order is ready to wheel out when you arrive.

It is now safe. 9 months ago it really wasn't as good and I refused to use the service.

I looked last night as Tesco was out of a lot of things.

msby · 05/01/2021 15:39

I should have added, we can never seem to get a decent delivery slot. At Tescos suggestion the long term solution has been that they open our boot and put shopping in the car (for disability/shielding reasons). The staff are fab but there have been a few system glitches of late.

SpikySara · 05/01/2021 15:40

Don't think your Tesco order has much of an impact compared to the 435 poor dear soulds who tragically departed these shores with covvid less than 24hrs ago
Indeed. I don’t want to increase those numbers so I’m shopping online where possible. I doubt anyone wants to go to the supermarket and be exposed to small DC with no masks and non concept of social distancing.

I’ve noticed a lot of errors with previous orders but I put it down to me ordering at night when I’m tired. Now I think they must have ongoing issues with their website but this is the first time they’ve acknowledged it.
I’ve noticed this too. I’ve added a few extra items to my basket on the evening before my delivery and they haven’t arrived. Then I’ve been questioning myself, did I actually add those items, did I press the button to check out? Obviously this issue has been happening for a while.

Another problem that tesco seem to be having is drivers running out of time
This happened to me once and now I always book an early morning slot so my delivery is first.

@StepBackPlease
It isn’t actually aimed at anyone !
And like u have stated u had to isolate lol because of covid !
For anyone that has no reason to isolate or shield I meant lol or I guess if u have small kids and don’t drive ect
If your able to visit a supermarket because your ok too and u have transport then why are people using delivery slots ?

CostaDelCovid · 05/01/2021 15:44

@Nsky

Go and get yourself, these things happen
Go and get yourself? That's a new one!
tttigress · 05/01/2021 15:55

Well it is unfortunate, but this is obviously an I.T. error, not excusing it, but I guess the systems are being loaded more than ever before.

I do always try to get my mum who is in a similar position to get the order sorted as much as possible, as st as possible, as there is always a chance you can't log in for that last minute update!

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 05/01/2021 15:56

Hairobsessed is probably one of those that moans about people using delivery slots but also gets fumin when people have to take their kids round the supermarket instead 🙄

Givemeabreak88 · 05/01/2021 15:57

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty

Yep, bet she would moan at me bringing my 4 kids to the supermarket!
