So bloody cross with my Mum.

DM lives alone and has bubbled with my household. She came over yesterday for a cup of tea, all completely normal. She text me today to say she’s been for a COVID test as she’s had a sore throat for 3 days. I am absolutely fuming with her for putting my family at risk and for being so sneaky and not even mentioning it yesterday. How do I get past her behaviour ☹️

You get a grip?

mioz · 03/01/2021 13:00

@HmmSureJan

You get a grip?
This really wouldn’t bother you?

Hmm Report her to police OP. What a terrible human being she is Biscuit
Finfintytint · 03/01/2021 13:01

Sore throat isn’t usually a symptom. Has she tested positive?

Sexnotgender · 03/01/2021 13:02

What weird responses so far! I’d be upset, my daughter is ECV and if someone did that I’d struggle to get passed it.

mioz · 03/01/2021 13:02

It’s a potential symptom. She’s obviously concerned enough to get a test. No results yet.

A sore throat isn’t a symptom to get tested for.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 03/01/2021 13:02

I think your Mum should have told you and her behaviour was abit reckless. I bet you would have told her had shoe been on other foot. It was your choice whether to take the risk and not hers to make for you so YANBU.

HmmSureJan · 03/01/2021 13:02

I'd be a bit worried but I wouldn't be angry with her about it. I'd find out a bit more. For example, you say she's had a sore throat for three days. I had a headache and sore throat last week for a couple of days, Covid didn't occur to me because those aren't the main symptoms. It went by itself but if by the third of fourth day it was getting worse then I might think "uh oh" and consider getting tested.

JamieLeesCurtains · 03/01/2021 13:03

Genuine question - how did she get a Covid test for a sore throat? I thought you needed a 'classic' symptom ie high temp, new continuous cough, loss of taste/smell.

yesifibbed · 03/01/2021 13:03

If she has bubbled with your household and lives alone how has she managed to get COVID? Assuming she isn’t going out and getting her shopping delivered. And anyway a sore throat isn’t a sign

Edgeoftheledge · 03/01/2021 13:03

Sore throat is not an offical symptom

Aprilx · 03/01/2021 13:03

You agreed to bubble with her! This effectively means she counts as part of your household. You being angry with her is like being angry with your DH if he got a sore throat - which is not a covid symptom anyway.

Perhaps unbubble yourself if you are going to be like this towards your mother.

wurlycurly · 03/01/2021 13:04

It would depend on how high risk your household is. Obviously if you or someone you live with is high risk, she's been really irresponsible. Ditto if you'd lose out financially by having to isolate.

ancientgran · 03/01/2021 13:04

Sore throat was the first symptom my son got, several days before anything else happened.

LubaLuca · 03/01/2021 13:04

A sore throat wouldn't make me think I had covid, and I don't think you'd get a test if that was all that was wrong. She must have had other symptoms since she last saw you.

You're being irrational anyway.

What a strange comment. Op said they were bubbled, not that her mum is a hermit. Her mum could have caught it at work, at the supermarket? Getting her hair cut.

I understand that, but since when did the government start testing for Covid on the basis of a sore throat?

Have I missed something?

I’m not sure unless she’s downplayed her symptoms to me which is likely

I wouldn't be cross about this. She wasn't to know yesterday.

triceratops12 · 03/01/2021 13:07

You're being irrational, a sore throat isn't a reason to stay at home. Also, it may have worsened from a tickle to really sore today therefore she's taken precautions.

beggingforsleep · 03/01/2021 13:07

How old is your mum? Are you not concerned for her? As she's your bubble wouldn't you be supporting her if she did have to isolate or got ill?

As people have said a sore throat isn't a symptom but maybe she should have said something. But ultimately she's your family too and you've chosen to be in a support bubble with her.

ghostyslovesheets · 03/01/2021 13:07

sore throat was my main symptom - awful and lasted for weeks - also a cough that was mild and lasted 2 days!

I don't think you are being unreasonable to be cross - if she thinks she has covid she should isolate

Terminallysleepdeprived · 03/01/2021 13:08

As others have said, a sore throat is not a symptom so either she is lying to you or on the covid test request.

Either way being angry at someone for being ill is pretty low OP, especially when the info you have does not relate to covid. Are there other issues with your dm?

mioz · 03/01/2021 13:08

She doesn’t live with us regardless of bubbling so she didn’t have to come over if she wasn’t feeling well?!
