I had a very embarrassing incident this morning. I was out walking with my 1.5 year old daughter in the pushchair and I needed to pee urgently. I walked towards the nearest shopping center but about 5 minutes away from it I felt like my chances of making it there were about 50/50, and even less of successfully getting my belt, jeans and pants down if I made it to the loo. I started looking for somewhere to go. There was a short street with an old bar that looked shut for years and a bit of wasteland with bin bags and some dumped household rubbish. It wasn't private exactly but I was really desperate so I quickly peed on the grass, sorted myself out and walked on. A woman from flats nearby started shouting out of her window at me, from the 2nd or 3rd floor. I walked round the corner quickly and continued towards the shopping center. She came running after me down the street in her pyjamas and dressing gown and said I was filthy and her children play there. All I could say was sorry, sorry, sorry and walked away quickly, she said she took a photo of me. I was really shaken after this, it happened just before 12 this morning. Obviously people shouldn't be peeing around everywhere but I was in serious danger of not being able to make it to a toilet. I also wonder if she would have the same reaction if I were a man. If there is such an emergency, isn't it reasonable to find somewhere to go? I didn't drop tissue there, just peed and got off. AIBU?

@Spidey66

Funny how some MNers can be all woke and sympathetic about certain issues like mental health issues, learning disabilities, autism etc but can't have an iota of support for a distressed woman whose very embarrassed.
I have support but also for the woman who looked out of her window and saw someone urinating in public outside of her home. I can understand both sides.
cockcrowfarm · 29/12/2020 20:09

@rawlikesushi

I'm on the fence. Obviously, you were in dire and desperate need so I'm not unsympathetic. But if me and my kids looked out of our window right now and saw a squatting woman taking a piss I think I'd have something to say about it too tbh.
I wasn't in her garden! In fact those apartments have their own garden, I was in a different street on a piece of wasteland next to a wall. She was on the second or third floor, if her kids looked out of the window it wouldn't be that easy to see, I'm sure she could distract them, it was a matter of seconds. Also it is freezing here, I was wearing a coat so I don't think there was anything to see!

@MysweetAudrina

All of those drivers stuck last week were shitting and pissing all over the place. MN is beyond weird when it comes to toileting. If a workman shits in their actual toilet it traumatises them.
Especially if they’re-shudder-working class!
Moonsbury · 29/12/2020 20:16

If you'd have wet yourself the wee would have been somewhere even more public, and you'd be embarrassed and wet aswell. Aslong as you were absolutely desperate I don't see what the other option was and I don't see the problem.

turnthebiglightoff · 29/12/2020 20:21

I reckon at least 90% of the "oh my god you're vile" idiots on this thread are lying and have all wee'd publicly. Shame on you all for being such nasty judgemental arseholes.

Everybody wees OP, really don't worry about it. I remember saying I had to bring my newborn into the bathroom so I could wee. People on here told me I was traumatising him, and by couldn't I hold it (for 3 hours) it's disgusting to bring a baby into a bathroom and so on. People on here lie a lot, to make themselves feel better about being human. It's fucking weird.

TreacleHart · 29/12/2020 20:23

Op I once got lots of negative replies for once mentioning that on long walks in very remote areas i.e walking 10-15 miles where you see not one other person and having to pee in the great outdoors !

FinallyHere · 29/12/2020 20:29

Your very own Paula Radcliffe moment would have been much worse.

Lots of running / walkers have not had time to get to a loo. No biggie.

blubberyboo · 29/12/2020 20:32

I don’t see the big deal. 3000 lorry drivers were forced to do it last week in Kent...probably an odd poo too.

I’ve no idea why you’ve been getting such a hard time OP.
I haven’t done the same, but when I have to go I have to go.

WoolieLiberal · 29/12/2020 20:55

OK, assuming you’re not a pee troll I can empathise as I’ve had bladder issues at certain points in my life (late bedwetter and childbirth rendered me almost temporarily totally bladder incontinent on both occasions until my pelvic floor exercises worked).

I would say that if this is something that is a problem for you on a regular or semi regular basis, best see your GP.

As a stopgap consider wearing some heavy duty Tena pants (for your sake as well as everyone else’s).

Spidey66 · 29/12/2020 20:56

@SpudulikaSlob

Weeing in public is illegal because it damages property, literally erodes brickwork. Get a she-wee and then you wouldn't be exposing yourself. But I do agree that we need more public toilets.
Yeah, right. That’s why there are loads of Edwardian and Victorian housing still standing. Nobody’s ever pissed against them. Hmm
jacks11 · 29/12/2020 21:00

It’s urine, it’s highly unlikely to cause any harm to anyone. Perhaps not ideal, but I can think of worse things to have done and better than the alternative.

I think some people are very uptight and have some very odd/bordering on hysterical views about bodily functions. It would have been worse if you’d opened your bowels, as this would carry a greater infection risk.

1Morewineplease · 29/12/2020 21:01

I e had to suddenly wee out in public. It humiliating and I cannot fathom why women on MN can't understand this issue.
Yes GO's can offer some help but sometimes needing to wee' right now' cannot be helped.

I understand OP and it really is humiliating.

I walk for several hours everyday for the last year, I like the exercise and my baby has her naptime. This is not any medical issue or any kind of repeating issue. I was just walking on the outskirts of a small city in tier 4 so there aren't facilities.

I think this thread is displaying an awful lot of class snobbery.

I understand the OP needed to make a snap decision, but actually my empathy lies fully with PJ lady. Just because she doesn’t live in a naice middle class area she is somehow expected to tolerate people In daylight pissing in full view of her flat. Obviously she already has had scummy fly-tippers dumping on the only green space available to her children, now some random women decides it’s so rundown she can piss there. And the same woman has the audacity to sneer about her for running outside in her PJs and slippers.

Seriously how many of us would put up with looking out of our front window to witness some random woman having a wee on the grass area outside where our children play?

This is very different to crouching behind a bush or a tree in the countryside.
I have an irritable bladder which means I often needed to pee urgently and sometimes resulted in wet jeans whilst desperately wrangling with my zip and belt. I wouldn’t have dreamt of peeing in the street in sight of someone’s home.
OP do go to your GP, my life has been transferred with tolterodine tablets.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/12/2020 21:05

I am sure if the OP was near some woods, she would have found a convenient tree. Hmm A she wee is your friend OP. There are dupes on ebay for about 2 quid, delivered.

LaceyBetty · 29/12/2020 21:06

I feel like the OP was about the other woman being OTT about it. I get that sometimes these things are not avoidable, but my guess is that the woman in the flat was sick to death of people using the bit of land outside her house as a toilet. Imagine if the woman in the flat was posting.

Skyline24 · 29/12/2020 21:09

When you have to go you have no option.. also I don't know about you but once you've had a child the pelvic floors are not as good :(... some people on here are being really nasty and I hope that you find yourselves in that same situation!! Ok

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 29/12/2020 21:10

Did people really expect OP to piss herself?! Replies saying she should have worn a pad are really irrelevant given she wasn’t wearing one in that moment.

And all those outraged at pee in the street being dangerous to children - I hope none of you have dogs, and if you do, they only pee in your garden.

The level of outrage and vitriol directed to the OP at a minor embarrassing incident that could happen to any of us is shocking and really unkind.

Spidey66 · 29/12/2020 21:20

This is the UK. It sounds like an alleyway. They’ll be rat poo, cat poo, fox poo, maybe fungi and possibly a bit of Japanese knotweed chucked in. Plus it rains a lot! A bit of wee will be fine!

LaceyBetty · 29/12/2020 21:22

It's right outside someone's family home though.

This is absolutely not the only piece of greenery in the are, there are several play parks and a large public garden near by, not to mention that all of the apartments have their own private front and back garden. Furthermore it is not a 'grass area' where children play it was a derelict piece of waste ground next to a closed down pub where people do flytipping. I live in a very similar area myself! Please don't go digging for class antagonism where there isn't any.

Yes I have found myself in the same situation many times. Anybody with bladder weakness will tell you how you plan your excursions around the condition, get experienced at dealing with accidents, running desperately to public toilets to find them closed, asking shop staff to use their facilities. But never have I ever considered crouching down in the street and urinated in front of someone’s living room window!
