Caught short

I had a very embarrassing incident this morning. I was out walking with my 1.5 year old daughter in the pushchair and I needed to pee urgently. I walked towards the nearest shopping center but about 5 minutes away from it I felt like my chances of making it there were about 50/50, and even less of successfully getting my belt, jeans and pants down if I made it to the loo. I started looking for somewhere to go. There was a short street with an old bar that looked shut for years and a bit of wasteland with bin bags and some dumped household rubbish. It wasn't private exactly but I was really desperate so I quickly peed on the grass, sorted myself out and walked on. A woman from flats nearby started shouting out of her window at me, from the 2nd or 3rd floor. I walked round the corner quickly and continued towards the shopping center. She came running after me down the street in her pyjamas and dressing gown and said I was filthy and her children play there. All I could say was sorry, sorry, sorry and walked away quickly, she said she took a photo of me. I was really shaken after this, it happened just before 12 this morning. Obviously people shouldn't be peeing around everywhere but I was in serious danger of not being able to make it to a toilet. I also wonder if she would have the same reaction if I were a man. If there is such an emergency, isn't it reasonable to find somewhere to go? I didn't drop tissue there, just peed and got off. AIBU?

@SmileyClare

It's not exactly hygienic for kids playing amongst bin bags and dumped rubbish anyway. Don't worry Op, this is a non event and unless she had a telescopic lens, a photo of you from that far away wouldn't show anything.

You wee'd in an alleyway, people are acting as though you defecated in a children's soft play.

Ignore the hyperbole . prosecuted for sexual offences really, what a daft thing to say. Grin

The photo wouldn't show anything, I had a big coat on and yes she was far away. Thanks for your kind post.

You have my sympathy, I don’t know what else you could have done.

I had the start of a urine infection and got stuck in the car in traffic through the snow a couple of years ago. Had to grab a dog wee pad and the fleece blanket the dog sits on in the car, stuff them under me and just wee (for England, and its was so painful) - no bottles to wee in, bumper to bumper traffic with no way of getting anywhere quickly.
I was humiliated, but it happens.
Wee happens.

cockcrowfarm · 29/12/2020 18:15

@viques

If it is next to a bar I don’t think you will have been the first to have peed on that bit of grass!
Definitely not the first time, a piece of wasteland/dump next to a bar....

That sounds awful! Lucky you had the dog pads! Embarrassing and painful 😩

Wee happens

This. I'm honestly surprised at the vitriol here. If you need to go, you need to go. Is OP peeing her pants seriously the preferable alternative?

LakieLady · 29/12/2020 18:18

@LST

OP I have been caught short many a time. Normally on walks in remote areas though. I can't see what else you could have done apart from piss yourself so I dont understand why you're getting such a hard time!
Me neither!

I was badly caught short one evening because I was unaware that the council had taken to closing all the public toilets at 7pm. I had to pee between two parked cars in the car park where the toilets are.

I don't see what else you could have done, OP.

PerhapsOverlyWorried · 29/12/2020 18:18

It’s definitely the cold

lunar1 · 29/12/2020 18:19

Don't beat yourself up over this, it wasn't deliberate.

nancybotwinbloom · 29/12/2020 18:21

Don't beat your self up op. It happened.

When you have had had kids then your muscles were not once what they were.

It wasn't the ideal place ideally but what was the alternative? Piss yourself?

Sorry I feel for the op here.

SmileyClare · 29/12/2020 18:22

I think people are bored after Christmas, a bit fed up and want to let rip on some unsuspecting poster in AIBU who hasn't posted about the virus. Maybe you should have put this in "chat" Wink

Don't take it personally. It would have been incredibly cold and chafing to walk all the way home in wet jeans! You don't need a doctor or incontinence pads.

Most people have been out on the piss in their younger years and had a little wee in an alley behind a pub haven't they? Blush

funinthesun19 · 29/12/2020 18:25

Why the fuck was she taking photos of you and shouting at you while following you in her pyjamas? Hmm What an absolute weirdo busy body she is.
If I saw you I would have just looked away and felt sorry for you that you had to do that!

I don’t understand why people whip their phones out take photos of others. Angry That to me is fucking worse than anything you’ve done.

nancybotwinbloom · 29/12/2020 18:26

I say this as seeing a mum letting a child wee in my garden once as it was enclosed.

I didn't kick off. I'd of preferred it if they'd of knocked and asked (pre Covid) but sometimes you are dammed if you do dammed of you don't.

She was very apologetic and I said as much, you should of knocked but she didn't want to inconvenience anyone so she did what she thought was the best for her/kids.

It's not like you go pissing up on peoples gardens etc Willy nilly is it.

strawberrypip · 29/12/2020 18:30

aww OP I feel really sorry for you, this has happened to me before but fortunately I was in a very secluded area. ignore the crazies on here and that woman - nothing else you could do.

report it if you see a photo of you going round. that's an awful thing to do to someone

I agree
DfEisashambles · 29/12/2020 18:31

Having once been desperate to wee in a car on a motorway and remembering how awful it felt, you have my sympathy. You’re human and it couldn’t be helped.

user1471505494 · 29/12/2020 18:32

I hope that all the outraged posters are never in the position of being in this situation. Unfortunately as the majority on here are women and we are all getting older you might well find it will happen to you at least once

PoppinTheCorn · 29/12/2020 18:37

You did what you had to do op, don't feel bad about it. It's not as though you go out and about pissing here, there and everywhere at will.
The posters expressing their disgust ought to be ashamed of themselves and thank their lucky stars that they've never been caught short.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 29/12/2020 18:38

You did what you had to do. During the first lockdown we had lots of tourists peeing or even taking a dump in car parks and on public footpaths in the area, resolved now the public toilets are open. It's not especially nice ( I think a wee is more excusable than a poo) but if there's no toilet what are you going to do? Sounds like you were as discreet as possible.

DeadButDelicious · 29/12/2020 18:44

Sometimes you just have to go and that's that. Don't feel bad OP I have experienced that sort of desperation where you HAVE to pee and it's not nice, you have my sympathy.

Moo678 · 29/12/2020 18:54

Woah - I can’t believe how horrible people are being. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the country but I don’t think an outdoor wee is much to be concerned about. Who on Earth let’s their kids play outside a derelict pub surrounded by bags of rubbish which they staunchly defend as their territory? The woman sounds unhinged. This could have happened to any of us. I’m sorry it was upsetting for you and that you are getting such a hard time Flowers

I walked round the corner and back to the busier street, quite fast and not long after she was chasing me shouting and waving in pink fluffy dressing gown. She was so annoyed she must have jumped up and ran after me. I apologised and had to get my daughter away because I really didn't know what she was going to do.

So much of the critical posting is because of the number of trolls who love to post about people pissing themselves (or worse). I think it's very naive of anyone not to realise that this kind of post is just feeding this kind of troll's perversion.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 29/12/2020 19:07

You should have taken a photo of HER-running around shouting like a lunatic in her pink fluffy dressing gown in public. Don't worry about it, OP.

Bleepers · 29/12/2020 19:10

People are being so harsh. It happens, don't stress at all. Next time maybe go between two parked cars - that's what I did when I had to wee 100 times a day after giving birth

I didn't change my username even though I am embarrassed, to try to stop people acusing me of being a troll. Most of my previous posts have been on serious and personal issues. I've read mumsnet for years before I ever posted anything so I'm quite familiar with this attitude that some people unfortunately have. There are quite a few posts that, well, help me to understand the mentality of the pyjama woman but there have also been some empathetic posts that have made me feel better.
