AIBU to get so annoyed when I've invested weeks/months in a thread with genuine concern for the poster only to go back for an update and the thread has been deleted?

What happened with the kid who was given sugar at nursery?
The mum to be who wanted to go to uni when baby was 2-3 weeks old?
The husband who was spending lots of time with a female co worker, working away?

When I'm reading a thread and offering advice I need to know the outcome 😂
I want to know if you left your husband, if your husbands crazy ex got arrested or what happened when you confronted your cheating partner 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't tease me like this!!

@EloiseTheFirst

*PutThemInTheIronMaiden I miss muddy puddles. *@Meepmeeep is right. rainypuddles (not muddypuddles) posted a catalogue of fiction. She gave herself away when she accidentally posted under another username.

This isn't correct. I contacted MNHQ to find out what happened and they confirmed she wasn't a troll but the thread had got totally derailed by troll hunters plus it was trolled relentlessly on Reddit so in the end it was pulled.

I hope rainypuddles is doing ok.

They are not going to admit she was a troll are they.
MaelyssQ · 12/12/2020 12:17

I agree with the pp who say the 'how old am I' threads should be immediately deleted. I'm suspicious sometimes that the photo shown is not the OP but someone she wants to humiliate. Either way the responses range from 'ooh hun ur sooo pretty' to 'your scraggy neck ages you terribly.'

I do enjoy the comments from middle-aged women claiming to look like teenagers though, bless their deluded hearts.

CounsellorTroi · 12/12/2020 12:20

I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would post an actual recognisable photo of themselves on here.

There was a poster recently who came on here claiming she was on holiday and someone said she looked fat, posted a photo of herself in swimsuit poster lined up to tell what a lovely figure she had, But it was clearly heavily photoshopped and edited ie lines around waist wavy thick lines that should be thin where they had tried to straighten lines.Just why would you do it. This is a posters whose mum was always posting about doorbells ringing at 1 am or mystery parcels turning up in the house. Is trolling the family business

Oh FFS! ANOTHER thread has been deleted now. Just a few minutes ago. The one about the supposedly over-friendly school mum. Because the OP had been 'identified in real life.'

Yeah SURE she had. Hmm Just didn't like the answers she was being given more like!

So annoying.

I, and many others contributed a lot of help and advice on that thread. Fucks me right off, and makes me not want to bother! Hmm

I can't believe you get invested enough to care to be honest.

More fool you in my opinion.

If you don't realise that, on an anonymous forum on the internet, you're effectively chucking your effort and time into a black hole then perhaps it's not for you.

@LisaLee333

I loathe the 'how old am I' threads too. They are just fishing for compliments. No-one looks more than 5-8 years younger than they are. First glance they may look 12-15 years younger, but not more than 5-8 years younger when you look properly.

The 'everyone thinks I am my daughter's sister ' posts make me LOL. Errrr, no-one thinks that luv! Not unless they have poor eyesight!!!

And PMSL at the 40-somethings who claim they are constantly asked for I.D. to buy booze!

Not to mention all the delivery drivers with such terrible eyesight Grin asking the fifty year old woman who answers the door, 'is your mum home?'
ItRubsTheLotionOnItsSkin · 12/12/2020 13:15

Ironically, I actually do think I look younger than I am BlushGrin No way am I posting here to have my illusions shattered though!

(There is an app where it guesses your age from a selfie. Possibly more traumatic than asking MN though. Unless you actually are a 56 year old male Grin)

bruffin · 12/12/2020 14:46

I just use the How Old.net and it said i look 40 Shock im 58 and have a white streak

bruffin · 12/12/2020 14:55

Ds look 31, he is 25 and DH 58 he is 59

MaelyssQ · 12/12/2020 14:57

Oooh I'm going on that How Old thing. I'm properly middle-aged and haven't resembled a teenager since er, well, when I was a teenager in the 70's Grin

Meepmeeep · 12/12/2020 15:19

I’m 35 and got 20 - I will more than take that!
😬😬

Allergictoironing · 12/12/2020 15:24

I friend of mine was recently verbally "abused" by someone saying among other things she must be at least 50 - actually she was rather chuffed, having recently passed her 61st birthday!

CounsellorTroi · 12/12/2020 15:25

I'm 59. Got told I look 58 in one photo and 15 in another.

CounsellorTroi · 12/12/2020 15:26

So I'll take the average of 37.5!

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 12/12/2020 15:40

I don't think much of face recognition software / apps since Facebook asked if I wanted to add someone from a photo. It was from a fresco in Hagia Sophia of Jesus.

Well, her husband sounded such a unique combination of drip and "everybody fancies me" that she might have been outed. Surely there can't be two such utter planks doing the school run? 🤣
TheSilentStars · 12/12/2020 15:50

@Sickofbroccoli

I think MNHQ have been much more wary about declaring people trolls since the time they really messed it up.

They declared an OP posting about her lost baby a “not genuine poster”, but she was and her story later appeared on One Born Every Minute.

Not quite. It was never categorically confirmed one way or the other by either HQ or the poster. There was a thread. There was OBEM. There was a similar story. The people who had believed the original thread said it was the same poster. The people who didn't believe the original thread continued not to. HQ were between a rock and a hard place because it could have been the same poster.

There was however, a confirmed poster deleted for trolling who really had lost a child. Around the same time. Possibly a bit earlier. Her story 100% played out and was in local newspapers where she lived.

bruffin · 12/12/2020 15:58

I do wonder if someone who worked at the hospital at the time, stole their story and posted it on MN .They probably did this more than once so when reported MN found the same IP address as pbp or different story.

Could be I suppose. Now't so queer as folk. I do find myself these days flicking down Active going "troll, fake, troll, troll" Or CF. Which I'm also convinced are mainly fake as well!
MaelyssQ · 12/12/2020 16:09

I think a lot of the CF threads are made up. Or maybe I've been exceptionally lucky in not meeting people who want to walk all over me and take advantage of my good nature or my resting birch face stops them in their tracks more likely Grin

I agree with this. I mean you know if someone is being a CF without asking MNetters what they think. And of course the 'Are they a CF' threads it's always a solid YES because the fictional cheeky fuckery is off the scale. Hmm
TheSilentStars · 12/12/2020 16:21

It's also the way they start off fairly normally (mostly) but then get whipped up by the fangirlz into more and more outrageous developments "and the whole bus cheered" sort of thing.
Like the one last Christmas where someone claimed to be going out every night and vandalising the neighbour's Christmas garden ornaments.
By the end she was virtually Kevin McAllister.

Yes, they always make the mistake of over egging it for the benefit of the expectant crowd of cheerleaders waving their pom poms.
TheSilentStars · 12/12/2020 16:36

The one I'm remembering was just an everyday tale of neighbour having a Santa that irritated the OP because she couldn't reverse round it or something.
So she booby trapped it, dressed it, kidnapped it, stuck a fake penis on its head, did that thing off Full Monty with the gnomes etc.
Or, more truthfully probably just tutted every time Santa lit up.

SwankyPants · 12/12/2020 16:57

Rainypuddles. The one with the nutty neighbours blaming the OP for flooding their garden.
Was that a troll then?
