AIBU to get so annoyed when I've invested weeks/months in a thread with genuine concern for the poster only to go back for an update and the thread has been deleted?

What happened with the kid who was given sugar at nursery?
The mum to be who wanted to go to uni when baby was 2-3 weeks old?
The husband who was spending lots of time with a female co worker, working away?

When I'm reading a thread and offering advice I need to know the outcome 😂
I want to know if you left your husband, if your husbands crazy ex got arrested or what happened when you confronted your cheating partner 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't tease me like this!!

I never knew the resolution to the thread about the person who had a wood and the neighbours put up a fence.

AlternativePerspective · 11/12/2020 18:22

Only 80%? well actually I think it’s probably more than that, but an awful lot of them I just am not interested in enough to read through them and to assume that they are, iyswim.

Besides which if I said that I think that almost all emotional threads are from trolls it’s inevitable that someone will come on here and say “my problems were real, how dare you accuse me of being a troll,” even if I hadn’t mentioned any of them by name.... Wink

Bonsai49 · 11/12/2020 18:24

I remember the iPhone in the garden one too -

Bonsai49 · 11/12/2020 18:25

There was also one a couple of days ago where the lady knew the back door was locked and there were hand prints on the window

You are not wrong.

Not sure you've quite understood the theme behind this thread Wink

I want to know what happened to the BIL / computer one!

Pinotwoman82 · 11/12/2020 18:30

Oh and the one a few weeks ago where the lady didn’t trust her DH taking their son to school, he disappeared for half the day. It transpired none of them worked, she didn’t know where he got his money from, she drove a 2017 Range Rover, he was abducted for 2 days but those people were ‘taken care of’ I was a bit to invested in that one lol Blush

Whatever you like-you could make up your own ending to that saga...

I remember that. She had her first post removed because it was too identifying. Then she did an update thread and had that removed for being too identifying as well!
BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 18:32

@Sparklingbrook

But I’m suspicious and I assume around 80% of emotional threads are trolls Only 80%? Grin
Exactly this!

OP (and everyone else who hankers for 'updates'): you do realise that the vast majority of the dramatic, heart-strings-tugging, interest-piquing, outrageous CF, family drama, and otherwise 'exciting' threads are utter fabrications, don't you? And that's why they get deleted ( despite vague or euphemistic deletion messages such as 'looking behind the scenes' or 'we have some concerns').

Oh yes, me too. That was a good one.

I liked Muddy Puddles. Hope everything was OK in the end.

Vivarium · 11/12/2020 18:34

Yes, I get frustrated by the ones where the OP manages to get MNHQto delete the thread based on it being "too identifying."

Bollocks was it identifying. You were just getting your arse handed to you (with good reason) and you didn't like it.

If you're worried about being identified, then change your username. Or change some of the non-relevant details. Or don't post in the first place - that is actually a genuine option as well.

Growapair · 11/12/2020 18:34

I want to know what happened with the stolen raffle prize computer. Someone chased the op off with mentions of it attracting the daily fail

Sadly I missed that particular thread, but from your summary it definitely sounds like a legitimate, plausible set of circumstances that definitely happened [grim]
SummerHouse · 11/12/2020 18:34

@DishingOutDone

I think of 6 threads I've posted on in the last 7 days 3 have been removed. I'm one of the Thread Killers!!
This thread is doomed!...

I want to know what happened with the raffle prize computer that the BIL allegedly didn't give to the OP. I always felt there was a plausible explanation just around the corner...

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 18:35

Grin, not [grim]!! ^^

Growapair · 11/12/2020 18:35

Ha. Crossed a lot of posts

SummerHouse · 11/12/2020 18:36

Jinx!

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 18:37

And there would have been, had the OP not had 'privacy concerns' (i.e. they hadn't thought up an ending yet).

I believe the OP was so 'concerned' about their 'privacy' that they started a whole new thread about the saga Hmm

Lockheart · 11/12/2020 18:37

If you want closure and updates then you need to pick up a book or watch a box set.

Mumsnet is probably not the medium for you.

OPs are not under any obligation to come back and update just to keep the rubberneckers happy, and posts can be deleted at any time.

MaelyssQ · 11/12/2020 18:39

I'm highly suspicious of any poster going through highly traumatic and life changing events, who is, nevertheless, still able to post lengthy articulate updates on Mumsnet. Maybe I'm too cynical for my own good these days, but I have been taken in by fabricated online tales of woe in the past.

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 18:40

I liked Muddy Puddles. Hope everything was OK in the end.

Rainypuddles was the username, I think.

I'd wager that she's absolutely fine, even despite Covid cutting a merciless swathe through the main players by Act V.

NerrSnerr · 11/12/2020 18:44

The reason why so many people come on Mumsnet and write a load of bollocks is because so many people get massively over invested desperate for updates. You see really emotional threads about domestic violence etc with people writing on the threads 'any updates OP?' like it's a soap opera.
