AIBU to get so annoyed when I've invested weeks/months in a thread with genuine concern for the poster only to go back for an update and the thread has been deleted?

What happened with the kid who was given sugar at nursery?
The mum to be who wanted to go to uni when baby was 2-3 weeks old?
The husband who was spending lots of time with a female co worker, working away?

When I'm reading a thread and offering advice I need to know the outcome 😂
I want to know if you left your husband, if your husbands crazy ex got arrested or what happened when you confronted your cheating partner 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't tease me like this!!

Does anyone know about Pollydaydream, the woman who was going to confront her husband about a possible affair he might of been having with a famous woman from his home town?

I think it might've been fake now because of the way she dissappeared and if it wasn't just a tad rude

MedusasBadHairDay · 12/12/2020 01:59
@Sparklingbrook yes! I remember ones like that. I didn't even know what a troll was when I first joined.

The one I clearly remember was someone posting from a London station in the toilet cubicle as they had - er - soiled their skirt.

A mner bought a skirt and took it to her. Obviously there was no one there.

I think the skirt was returned and no harm done.

Nobody would do that nowadays I don't think? We'd all just looking and think 'there's the poo troll'
Wasn't there a few of those kinds of posts around that time, either MNers riding to the rescue or giving money? I feel like it was around then that MNHQ started posting messages on threads to gently remind people that they couldn't guarantee it was real?

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 12/12/2020 02:19

I had forgotten about the found iphone thread.
Now I'm curious again LOL

Lofari · 12/12/2020 02:30

Anyone else slightly jealous people have the time to think up all the fictitious crap posted on some threads? Mind you, they do make for entertaining reading when I can't sleep.

Marmunia1975 · 12/12/2020 02:50

Who remembers WhiskeyChaser and the pick up the child or not thread?

MrsDoctorDear · 12/12/2020 03:49

@supercee

I was wondering about the fish finger sandwich thread.

There's one going at the moment where I'm sure it's a troll. It's onto thread 2 and I'm hoping it's legit, but I can't help but think...

Yes I've got my doubts, everything is in real time as it happens.

@JJsDinerWaffles

There was a poster on here years ago called Happylandspaceman. She posted some desperate posts over quite a long period during which she was going through some horrific DV, and she had run away with her 2 small children. It was very distressing and I think a number of posters were messaging mnhq desperately hoping they could help. In the end a poster managed to get in touch IRL to offer support, but sadly posted later on that she had taken her life. I was devestated. It would have been very hard not to be invested in that situation. Everything was then deleted by MNHQ as it was felt it would be too distressing for the family to read.

Sometimes I really hope all of that was a troll - just so someone wasn’t actually going through that. But it certainly didn’t feel like it.

Does anyone else remember Happy?

Oh Lord - that is heartbreaking.
bruffin · 12/12/2020 08:53

@jessstan1

cologne: Yes this has happened to me too. But MN just say things like "we're checking behind the scenes". How can they even do that. Do they start phoning people up and asking them why they posted and if they're a troll? I know they can use IP addresses to find previously banned posters, but even so,, it always sounds a bit strange. .. I think MNHQ email the person concerned with a question and sometimes they say that they have heard from whoever, at other times they just put the thread back.
They check the ip address
JJsDinerWaffles · 12/12/2020 08:53

Actually I looked up Happy after posting and her original thread (this is not right and I don’t know how to change it) is still there. Just the second one was deleted. I had a read through and sadly I do think it was real.

bruffin · 12/12/2020 08:59

I thought I was alone with wondering about the outcome of threads so often. The one that sticks in my mind was the Mum who accused her cleaner of drinking her alcohol.
That was in a recent film Wild Rose suspect a lot of trolls use plots of books and films.
The Sistine Chapel thread was in a book by Alexander McCall Smith Bertie Plays the Blues

Missgemini · 12/12/2020 09:12

@dominoz someone a few pages ago said the OP of 'BIL raffle computer' confronted them and apparently they said it was a second hand computer and they were embarrassed to tell them about it. But that doesn't resolve it for me! Did she go over and see the computer? So many questions.
I was reading that thread with my DH. We were both fuming! Haha

SnackyLady · 12/12/2020 09:23

What happened on the alphabet street? I read rainy puddles and believed it!

MRex · 12/12/2020 09:59

I'm so sorry to hear of Twittlebee's sad loss, but happy to hear she had a baby this year.

The second-hand computer is a decent explanation, that would be tough to come up with.

Missgemini · 12/12/2020 10:12

@Besuretodrinkyourovaltine I remember your thread! Thanks for telling us the ending! Sounds like she was a right nutcase! Wow!

I know the thread you mean and wonder the same. It would be awful if it's all made up. Posters on there are definitely emotionally invested
CharityDingle · 12/12/2020 10:38

Whatever you like-you could make up your own ending to that saga...

Exactly.
And tbh, I don't understand when posters are 'raging and fuming and shaking' on behalf of someone who has most likely invented a tale of woe for attention.

CharityDingle · 12/12/2020 10:45

GoldenOmber
I wonder what happened to the trolls. The woman who was always aged 22 with a 4mo baby and gazillions of pounds, and would turn up every week or so with a crisis like “help, we have hired the function suite of the Ritz for DS’s baby group, but I don’t know where the mugs are kept, should I ask someone?” What’s she doing in real life now? Is she happier and older and doesn’t need the escapism any more?

And did she ever find out where the mugs are kept! Grin

MrsKJones · 12/12/2020 11:17

I was reading the body shop thread this morning and when I clicked next page it had been taken down.

ItRubsTheLotionOnItsSkin · 12/12/2020 11:40

I really don't like the threads where people post a photo and ask Mners to ask how old they are. I always think they could be putting up photos of anyone and inviting comments, andt they know some of them will be hurtful eg there are always some fuckers who deliberately say "early 50s?" even though they're obviously about 20 or "you have nice eyes but your neck is very lined and your dark circles make you look older than you are" Hmm

I really dislike it as they could be photos of anyone.

ItRubsTheLotionOnItsSkin · 12/12/2020 11:41

"I really don't like the threads where people post a photo and ask Mners to ask how old they are."

I mean ask Mners to say how old they are, apologies!

I agree. I think MN should zap those threads immediately. There's no proof of who the person might be and the bitchy comments start flowing.

'Well OP, you look about 95...I'm 33, and keep being mistaken for my six year old... etc.'

LisaLee333 · 12/12/2020 11:57

I loathe the 'how old am I' threads too. They are just fishing for compliments. No-one looks more than 5-8 years younger than they are. First glance they may look 12-15 years younger, but not more than 5-8 years younger when you look properly.

The 'everyone thinks I am my daughter's sister ' posts make me LOL. Errrr, no-one thinks that luv! Not unless they have poor eyesight!!!

And PMSL at the 40-somethings who claim they are constantly asked for I.D. to buy booze!

That makes me laugh too. 'I am raging on your behalf OP,' and 'I didn't sleep last night thinking about you!' Grin
LisaLee333 · 12/12/2020 12:03

Oh FFS! ANOTHER thread has been deleted now. Just a few minutes ago. The one about the supposedly over-friendly school mum. Because the OP had been 'identified in real life.'

Yeah SURE she had. Hmm Just didn't like the answers she was being given more like!

So annoying.

I, and many others contributed a lot of help and advice on that thread. Fucks me right off, and makes me not want to bother! Hmm
